Re: Pope to resign
Oh, I have seen the conspiraloons about J-P I, LL. He was done in by those masonic lizards, you know, on the 33rd day of his popacy, and that's masonic, innit?

Re: Pope to resign
There was a book written by David Yallop who claimed he was murdered because certain clergy were afeared he would let the world know how corrupt some of them, not all but a few senior cardinals, had become. John Cornwall wrote a rebuttal. LLbb1 wrote:Oh, I have seen the conspiraloons about J-P I, LL. Re: Pope to resign
Conclave To Elect Pope To Begin On Tuesday
Roman Catholic cardinals will start their conclave to elect a successor to Pope Benedict XVI on March 12, the Vatican says.
The secret vote to elect a new Pope is set to begin next Tuesday at the Vatican.
The Vatican press office said the decision was taken during a vote Friday afternoon of the College of Cardinals.
Only Cardinals who are under the age of 80 - 115 of them - can take part in the election which is held behind locked doors in the Sistine Chapel.

I am happy to say that Sky Atlantic are now repeating The Borgias from the start, so I have a much better grasp on how Popes get elected.
Though I suspect modern cardinals may use cellphones to rally support and bribe people, rather than sending messages via carrier pigeons and offers of said bribes hidden in roast duck.

Re: Pope to resign
Not during the actual Conclave as I understand the Vatican has arranged a blackout on all phones etc, and made it known that any breach of the rules will be punished by excommunication. There's apparently some kind of electrical system that has been installed that blocks all radio signals in or out. Re: Pope to resign
I don't think so, as far as I know, food and drink are not allowed into the Conclave, which is sealed as soon as all the voting cardinals are in there. And a lot of poetic or filmic licence was taken with the Borgias series, just as it was with Rome, the Tudors etc. Any lobbying in this Conclave will have been done before any of them got to Rome. Also, as a reporter said, many of them have never met before now so they wouldn't have had too much time for any support rallying. In the time of the Borgias things were far easier, no Africans, Asians, etc only Europeans, so they would have known each other. I'm afraid not, no knives, poison or pushing rivals into the river Tiber, just 115 men wearing long dresses and pixie hats!! LLbb1 wrote:Ah, they don't make papal conclaves like they used to.

Re: Pope to resign
I am really sad about this. I saw his face when he was elected, and it was the face of an honoured man. But he was only meant to be an interim Pope. He was too old to be anything else. But if he thinks that he is failing then the choice can only be his.
I went through all of The Hitler Youth rubbish, and why should he be, but I do believe that he is an honest man who cannot provide in the way in which he thinks he should.
Tis a strange thing because all Catholics think that The Pope is next to God, but perhaps he discovered that he isn't.
I am a Catholic come lately, so I know all about not agreeing to Birth Control when it is no longer an issue for me. Would I have been so keen in the years when it was?
The next Pope will tell us quite a lot about where The Catholic Church is heading. And I think that the poor man couldn't actually cope with that.
In France Catholicism is vastly different from Britain. It isn't a Religion of Guilt, but only of Community. Of being together and helping each other. And No, I don't believe in One God. But I do believe in The Community.
Sorry, I am really upset that he has given up his red shoes. He is a good man.

But we will all wait with bated breath for the white smoke. Even those of us who don't believe in the crap. Personally, I am betting on an Italian. We have had enough of outsiders and lip service to political correctness. Rome Rules. Okay. And don't you ever love an aesthetic.

Re: Pope to resign
Morning, ma petite, I agree with you about Benedict, he was a good man, but he inherited a situation he was not able to deal with. He was never a flamboyant, attention seeker like John Paul II, he was an academic, a teacher and an intellectual. I sincerely hope his retirement is calm, peaceful and that he is able to continue writing. All one can do is hope the RC Church gets someone with more knowledge of the outside world - a commentator on a TV program yesterday said one cardinal said they really need is someone with a MBA! LL
