Re: Lisbon trial - Gonc wants closed court, private hearing
According to the lawyer, Kate McCann will not testify at trial, despite the new Code of Civil Procedure provide for this right now, since the process has worked and prepared another assumption. Same goes with Gonçalo Amaral, which should not testify at trial.
My my my. So, he's not going to have to produce his Ace, after all? The world is never, ever going to see what the fabled Ace is?
Why am I not surprised?

This is also interesting:
http://www.globalpost.com/dispatch/news/afp/130913/maddie-libel-case-suspended-portugal
David Trickey -- the psychologist who has been helping the McCanns' two other children, twins Sean and Amelie, since 2007 -- told the court he was concerned that they would one day be able to read Amaral's book.
"Everything that impacts the parents also has an impact on the children," he said.
"But I'm also concerned about the growing of the children... They will have increasing access to the contents of the book.
"It's important for them to know that the world is safe and the parents will protect them."
He added: "I'm worried that the book doesn't suggest a possibility but comes to a conclusion."
Quite; the world has seen more than enough of the Fridge Theory.

Yes, Tony, very conflicting. And NONE of this explains why Brunt wasn't there today - unless he'd been tipped off it was going to grind to a halt?
Someone's in La La land:
Frances Gallagher Apparently John Amaral can call witnesses who are unknown to the McCanns but whose testimony is in the unreleased files.
Oh good, that stunt should get him sent straight to the cells. I take it, then, that Ms Duarte will be playing the Golden Bullets tape to the court, let them all hear what a thug Amoral really is?
She must have missed the bit where he won't be testifying, so there's going to be no Ace-playing, anyway.
Gonc's terrified of Isabel, you know. Every single time he's faced her, she's torn him a new one. Wonder if he's paid for his disaster in Faro, at her hands, yet?

Psychologist and criminal lawyer testify in favor of the McCanns
Posted at 20:12at 20:12
Only two witnesses, a psychologist and a criminal lawyer, were heard on Friday in the second day of the trial of the civil case filed by the McCanns against former PJ inspector Gonçalo Amaral, after the afternoon session to be canceled
According to Isabel Duarte, the McCanns' lawyer, canceling the hearing scheduled for the afternoon was due to a "personal problem" of Judge Maria Emilia Melo e Castro. The impediment is however temporary and does not compromise the progress of the trial.
Isabel Duarte, the McCanns lawyer in a civil action for defamation against the former PJ inspector who investigated the disappearance of British child in Algarve (2007), Lusa said that due to this unforeseen with the judge, was not the court can hear the remaining three witnesses, all of them relatives of British couple.
Kate McCann and the grandfather of missing girl sitting in the area for the public, the audience served morning to hear an English psychologist who accompanied the twins Madeleine McCann, after the tragic disappearance of the child in an apartment hotel in Lagos, Algarve.
The other witness heard was a criminal lawyer who helped the McCanns trying to decipher the mystery surrounding the disappearance of Madeleine McCann and who talked about the media impact that had on the public statements of England Gonçalo Amaral to involve the child's parents in disappearance.
Isabel Duarte said that the next trial sessions are scheduled for 19, 20 and September 27, continuing on 02 and 08 October and ending on 05 November
======
Isn't there at least one mistake there? I don't think Kate's dad was in court....
It must be galling for the McCanns to be continually messed about like this; Amoral has stalled the hearing for years, and now - whatever this is about.

trial
Psychologist and lawyer testify in favor of the McCanns
Only two witnesses , a psychologist and a criminal lawyer , were heard today in the second day of the trial of the civil case filed by the McCanns against former PJ inspector Gonçalo Amaral , after the afternoon session to be canceled .
According to Isabel Duarte , the McCanns' lawyer , canceling the hearing scheduled for the afternoon was due to a " personal problem " of Judge Maria Emilia Melo e Castro . The impediment is however temporary and does not compromise the progress of the trial.
Isabel Duarte , the McCanns lawyer in a civil action for defamation against the former PJ inspector who investigated the disappearance of British child in Algarve (2007 ) , told to Lusa that due to the personal issue with the judge , was not possible for the court cto hear the remaining three witnesses , all of them relatives of British couple .
Kate McCann and the grandfather of missing girl sitting in the area for the public , the audience served this morning to hear an English psychologist who accompanied the twins of Madeleine McCann , after the tragic disappearance of the child in an apartment hotel in Lagos, Algarve .
The other witness heard was a criminal lawyer who helped the McCanns trying to decipher the mystery surrounding the disappearance of Madeleine McCann and who talked about the media impact in England the public statements of Gonçalo Amaral to involve the child's parents in the disappearance .
Isabel Duarte said that the next trial sessions are scheduled for 19 , 20 and September 27 , continuing on 02 and 08 October and ending on 05 November.
According to the lawyer , Kate McCann will not testify at trial, despite the new Code of Civil Procedure provide for this right now , since the process has worked and prepared another assumption .
The same applies to Gonçalo Amaral , which should not testify at trial .
After previously , the parties have not reached an out of court settlement in the civil action , in which the parents of Madeleine McCann demanded a compensation of EUR 1.2 million for alleged defamation of former PJ inspector , the trial began with the examination of three witnesses - a Canadian and two British - " friends " of the McCanns .
Speaking Thursday to Lusa , Isabel Duarte said that since the beginning, the McCanns always been open to a court settlement with Gonçalo Amaral , but it was not possible to reach an agreement with the defendant .
She stressed , however, that the main objective of the couple McCann was that the investigation into the disappearance of the child was resumed , which , he said, has now taken place , without telling any further details or other clues .
In related case, the 7th Civil Court of Lisbon decided in January 2010 to keep the ban on the marketing of the book " Maddie : The Truth of the Lie" , written by Goncalo Amaral , and video with the same title based on a documentary aired on TVI .
Madeleine McCann disappeared on May 3, 2007 , in an apartment of a tourist resort in Praia da Luz in the Algarve , where he was on holiday with her parents and twin brothers .
At the time of the disappearance , Goncalo Amaral was the coordinator of the Criminal Investigation Department of the Judicial Police of Portimão .
Kate and Gerry McCann , who always claimed that the child was abducted , were made defendants in September 2007 .
The case was dropped for lack of evidence , in July 2008 , although prosecutors admit reopening if new data emerge about the child's disappearance .

Thank you, Pedro, I have absolutely no idea what is going on. I find it hard to believe a judge would just take off in the middle of such an important trial, and I suspect we aren't hearing the whole story?

This is interesting:
http://joana-morais.blogspot.com/2013/09/maddie-case-psychologist-and-criminal.html
Note that, as usual, it's Astro who has posted it. Look at this:
The other witness that was heard was a criminal lawyer who helped the McCann couple in an attempt to decipher the mystery that surrounds the disappearance of Madeleine McCann, who spoke about the media impact that the public statements of Gonçalo Amaral, involving the child's parents in the disappearance, had in England.
The McCann-haters have tried to spin that into nonsense about that being before the book was published, but as we know, Gonc was mouthing off almost from Day One.

Re: Lisbon trial - Gonc wants closed court, private hearing
From Justice:
Quote from: AnneGuedes on Today at 09:02:14 PM
The judge wanted to start again at 2pm, the lawyers asked for more time to have lunch. She said 2:15 would be her last word.
What happened ? Everybody was in the court room, lawyers included, waiting for the judge, then a lady appeared and made this announcement.
Anyhow the sessions are taped and the clerk might do more or less what I did.
We're definitely not hearing the whole story. Assuming Guedes is telling more or less the truth, sounds like the lawyers were messing the judge around and she made it clear she wasn't going to put up with it?
Now, who was it who's notorious for taking three-hour lunches? Oh yes, it's Gonc. At his old tricks again, was he?

Yes, there's frantic spinning going on on the hate sites, which always means things have gone badly for Gonc and disaster is imminent.
We'll get the truth of the matter sooner or later. And we still don't know what Gonc doesn't want the public to hear - who knows, maybe it is the Golden Bullets tape? That would be good.

Re: Lisbon trial - Gonc wants closed court, private hearing
I've noticed a lot of the haters are frantically hanging onto this:
Then he says a lawyer, who was with the Mccanns in Portugal between May and September 2007, gave testimony but the defense refutes as you say because what he witnessed was "BEFORE The publishing of the book."
Totally ignoring the fact that that is a reporter being quoted, having been translated from Portuguese and out of context.
The context they are ignoring is made plain elsewhere:
The other witness that was heard was a criminal lawyer who helped the McCann couple in an attempt to decipher the mystery that surrounds the disappearance of Madeleine McCann, who spoke about the media impact that the public statements of Gonçalo Amaral, involving the child's parents in the disappearance, had in England.
They can't, or won't, grasp that this is about more than just Gonc's ghastly 'book'. Or that it doesn't greatly matter if de Santos didn't like his testimony and disputed it.

Re: Lisbon trial - Gonc wants closed court, private hearing
Nothing's any clearer than it was 12 hours ago, as far as I can see. All we know is that today's hearing was suspended; from what Guedes said, it seems to have been over a spat about long lunch breaks.
As it is extremely unlikely that Ms Duarte and the McCann group would be seeking to sit stuffing their faces for hours, you don't need to be a genius to take an educated guess about which 'side' was responsible.
But I really don't think that is the full story.

Apparently, at the beginning of proceedings Amaral requested that the hearing be conducted in camera. What were his reasons for this request, and what were the grounds for its rejection?
Repeating this question from yesterday. An answer would be very much appreciated, Anne, particularly the last part underlined here.
I don't now, Chinagirl, apparently it's not rare in that sort of trial but it has to be justified. It seems Mr Amaral's request was to restrain the audience to the public, excluding the media. Martin Brunt even asked me if, in this case, I would report for him (I was the only member of the public).
Thank you for your reply, Anne. So it seems the reason for Amaral's request was to exclude the media from reporting on it, presumably both Portuguese as well as UK (and other) media. One has to wonder why, given his former eagerness to encourage dissemination of his views about this matter.
And it would be interesting to know the grounds on which his request was refused.
Something odd is going on here.......

.....As is demonstrated by this video, of Gonc's lawyer speaking in English:
From 1.30 on - Amaral's lawyer claims he wanted the triat behind closed doors because Madeleine may still be alive.
Which makes a complete nonsense of his scruffy client's trash.
Incidentally, why is Gonc walking so unsteadily?

So, the story being spun by the Gonc Squad is that Madeleine may well be alive, and that Mr Scruffy wanted the case heard behind closed doors because she would be upset if she heard his Fridge Theory?
IT'S A BIT LATE FOR THAT, ISN'T IT?
Gonc may as well write the cheque now. We're not hearing the truth about anything, which makes no change whatsoever when Gonc is involved. The shabby creature couldn't lie straight in bed.
