Re: Gardening Thread.
It is terrible here this morning. The gutters can't cope with the wind and the rain so I've got water running down the inside walls from where the slates overlap the gutters.
I have often wondered why the old stone houses didn't have gutters. Now I know.

Prime Minister David Cameron has said he will also visit Somerset "when the time is right" and insisted his top priority was coordinating the Government's response.
He said: "When it's right for me to visit I'll be there, don't worry.
Was there ever a more useless PM than that smarmy git? As is being pointed out, medieval monks with wooden spades knew former marshlands had to be kept drained and rivers dredged - it took 21st century genuises to forget basic things like that.
I doubt if Cameron will have a clue what to do if he can't find an app for, A large chunk of England is drowning, on his smartphone.

Much of Somerset has been underwater since December and there is more bad weather coming this weekend
Winds of 80mph and heavy rain will sweep in from Atlantic tomorrow, in 'worst of the weather so far this winter'
40 Commando Royal Marines drafted in as storm is expected to bring even more devastation this weekend

I saw an extremely angry Mr Liddell-Grainger on Sky News earlier. It's the first time in a long time I have felt anything resembling respect for a Tory MP; I didn't think they cared about anything or anyone besides themselves and their banking, property-speculating chums.

Incompetence. They are clueless as to what to do probably because they haven't asked or listened to the right experts. Everyone knows they can't stop the weather but it's no good sticking your head in the sand.
The arrogance is astounding.

Re: Gardening Thread.
Just get a Dredger in there. It must be deep enough by now.
Only the Water Meadows are flooded here, but then they use the unemployed to clean the rivers.
And they don't build houses on Water Meadows.

The unemployed clean the rivers? Isn't that against their Yuman Rite to be lying on the sofa in grubby pyjamas and watching Jeremy Kyle?

They aren't forced to do it, Bonny. They just lose their benefits if they refuse. That's their Human Rite, of course.

Re: Gardening Thread.
Seems perfectly fair to me, Sabot.
Maybe Cameron's just been stung into action by Alex Salmond; earlier today, Cameron attempted to patronise the citizens of Scotland, which naturally has blown up in his smug face. In the course of his reply oor ain First Meenister suggested his London counterpart might be better occupied sorting out the rather large chunk of south west England which is currently drowning than lecturing anyone else.

Love it, Bonny.
Sabot, that is a brilliant thing. Get those healthy people on welfare in to do the work or have their benefits taken away. Win-win all around.

I have to add that they all head for the onsite hut the minute it starts raining. And they get a free lunch at the nearest Bar come Restaurant. So not exactly hardship.

.........Sir Chris Hoy. Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. Lord Reith. Lord Lovat. David Cameron lined them all up as members of Team GB who would help him “do whatever it takes” to persuade Scotland not to rip up the UK “brand” in September......
So, the UK is now a brand? Like Burberry and Marks & Sparks? It is so sick that the world has come to this.....
PS. So where will they hold the seance for our dearly departed?

Re: Gardening Thread.
Well, he's making such an ar@e of it, that current thinking is that he's actually trying to lose to keep the Tories in power forever in England......
The citizens of Scotland are currently ROFL-ING at the sight of Salmond telling him to go and sort out Somerset - and then Cameron going.....
Oh, and Salmond calling Cameron 'feart' because Cameron refuses to have a televised debate with him is also causing many chuckles.
So where will they hold the seance for our dearly departed?
I know, WTF has Conan Doyle got to do with it?

Re: Gardening Thread.
The chaos in the west country has been going on for weeks now, Lily - IMO, it's too little, too late for Cameron to go splashing around in wellies announcing that, as usual, Lessons will be learned.
Never mind Scotland, he's demonstrated that as long as it doesn't greatly affect anything inside the M25, it's not that important in his book.

Not quite, Lily, he didn't risk his designer wellies in any of the really deep bits, he just sort of splashed around a bit..
