Guards may line UK-Scotland border: Ed Miliband

British Labour party leader Ed Miliband says guards may be ordered to line the 95-mile English-Scottish border if the majority of Scottish people voted for independence in an upcoming referendum.

During an interview with The Scottish Daily on Sunday, Miliband said the need for border guards “would have to be looked at.”

“If you don’t want borders, vote to stay in the United Kingdom,” the Labour leader said.
Prior to the remarks by Miliband, his spokesman also said that Britain “would be in charge of” measures guaranteeing safety on their side of the border.

Meanwhile, former Labour Home Secretary David Blunkett said, “Were the Scots to vote 'yes' to separation, the issue of border controls and the threat of entry through Scottish ports and airports would take on serious proportions.”

Meanwhile, a spokesman for the “yes Scotland” campaign said that there would be no border posts between an independent Scotland and the rest of the UK, and that the “no campaign” would “say anything to try to scare people into throwing away this unique opportunity to put our future into our own hands.”
This is while a poll conducted by YouGov showed that 51 percent of Scottish voters plan to vote “yes” in the referendum while 49 percent others plan to vote “no.”

Scotland will hold a national referendum on independence from the UK on September 18. The referendum could result in Scotland’s breakaway from the United Kingdom after more than 300 years of political union.

Scottish authorities on the other hand argue that independence from the UK would free Scotland from London’s austerity policies and unnecessary military spending.

Well, the saltire will have to come off it, so there goes the blue. And as the current UK is hanging onto Northern Ireland by its fingernails, the St Patrick's cross really should go, too.

Which leaves the St George's cross. And that isn't really fair on Wales, but I don't quite see how a dragon could be squeezed in....and anyway, Wales isn't entirely happy with their Glorious Union, so best not to make too many long-term plans.

Cornwall is in the early days of re-establishing itself, so it is rather looking as if the Celtic fringes of the British Isles have had enough. And northern England isn't very happy, either, so, give it a few years, and UKIP will be ruling the M25 corridor and the Home Counties.

Boris will have established a new city-state in the City of London, so, lots to look forward to!
