I should think Putin now has a framed copy of that, to remind him that a psychotic megalomaniac is running the US.

Re: Nevada rancher V US Government
I notice the absense of any acknowledgement since WW2 of the German Nazi-Soviet pacts made in August 1939 in which Molotov and Ribbentrop carved up Europe. Collective memory loss seems to affect all leaders, not just the ones we all know of. That display today in Red Square reminds me vividly of the Soviet displays before the Wall came down. IMOPO of course. LL

Re: Nevada rancher V US Government
I've just been watching it, it was rather spectacular - we haven't seen peace-loving ICBMs for a while.
Thing is, LL, while that is going on in Moscow, the supposed leader of the not-terribly-free world is pratting about on imaginary thrones pretending to be a psychotic boy king. What message is that sending out to the world, especially as the US has so many domestic problems courtesy of Obama's leftist ideology?
Kerry and co telling outrageous lies and warmongering, when the world can see what a fool their president is, is, IMO, a recipe for disaster.
Russia has announced its aiming to have a base on the moon by 2030; the US can't even get out of earth orbit any more. Which country looks as if it's being competently run?
I doubt if the US could even put on a display like the Red Square Victory Parade any more - assorted Rights campaigners would start whining that transgendered gay social workers weren't being respected, or it might cause offence to atheist terrorists or something.
I'm not saying one is good and one is bad, but it's not Russia that has left a series of ruined states around the world in the 21st century, it's the US and its incompetent meddling. Obama's administration terrifies me, frankly, it's all show, corruption and bombast, and no substance.
But who cares about that stuff? Obama's Cool, he pretends to be a psycho king with an imaginary throne.

Re: Nevada rancher V US Government
I have no idea what this all about - thrones etc. All I know is I would trust Putin and co like I would trust a grizzly bear chasing me and seeing a nice juicy morsel. Maybe I am paranoid, but I saw the Russkies in Vienna and resented having to get a permit to pass into their sector. I don't trust any 'super-power, they are all as bad as each other., Our family was lucky, we were in the British zone, anyone in the Russian zone had their houses ransacked, they even stole pots and pans, sinls and lavatory pans. People in the UK were so lucky, they never experienced the horror of the Nazies and then the Commies. No-one will ever convince me that Putin is anything other than a thinly disguised commie - sorry. As for Obama and Kerry, I am not politically minded so I tend not to be that interested in them, the USA is on the other side of the world, tho I do notice Fox News, which is solidly pro-republican, is leading the shit stirring. Re: Nevada rancher V US Government
I think our dear leader is trying to look 'cool' for the younger generation. He desperately needs them for his failing 'affordable' (to whom?) healthcare plan. They are the ones who will be paying for the ones they need the large scale votes from, i.e., illegal aliens etc.
LL, we don't exactly trust or like Putin either. He has, at least, been seen to be leading his people.....

That's it, Lily, I don't greatly like Putin, but I can respect him - there's a subtle difference, IMO. He's doing what he was elected to do - put Russian interests first. He can be trusted to always do that, whatever the world thinks. Anyway, he is more Christian and less left-wing than Obama, which is a bitter irony.
He doesn't need to sit on pretend thrones to look like a leader, he is one.

What's with all these selfies with dear leaders in them? Will they be hanging their tongues out next like true scum morons?
Bonny, the idea of ordinary citizens being spied on is repugnant. Why are 'they' so scared that they must do it?

Re: Nevada rancher V US Government
It's nothing new - Russia, China, N Korea do it with impunity,. In fact in most contries with the technology and built-in paranoia it is the norm. Used to be the butler listening at keyholes, now it's a man with a PC and other euqipment. As long as the human tribes distrust each other it will continue. Re: Nevada rancher V US Government
Having worked in the USA for over 3 years, and actually stayed at the Marriott Twin Towers Hotel, I think the world changed forever when those towers were destroyed. There hadn't been any invasions of the country for some 200 years, and suddenly over 3000 citizens died in a single hour. We in Europe are used to invasions, revolts, uprisings, insurgencies etc let alone in recent memory 2 world wars and a Cold War. To Americans that day must have been Armageddon, their suposedly safe country had been attacked by a handful of men who blew a hole in New York and their safety blanket. I think this fixation with monitoring their citizens stems from that day. LL

Re: Nevada rancher V US Government
Yes, that may be a lot of it, LL -the Keep calm and carry on, attitude, would have been healthier in the long term . Thing is, by acting like this, by spying on everyone and treating everyone like an enemy, the US government is making things worse, IMO. When I see what this US administration is doing, their meddling not just overseas, but in the lives of their own citizens, I struggle to recognise the country.
Obama's idea that Government Knows Best would have been anathema a couple of decades ago.
One of Cameron's few saving graces is that he doesn't travel with an entourage - no doubt there were a couple of security officers in Nando's, but he wasn't six deep in heavies with earpieces and sunglasses.
I was reading earlier this week that Americans on a domestic flight were astounded when Prince William hopped into one of the cheap seats without any carry-on or drama, unlike the Obamas, who have been behaving like Roman emperors on their travels.
The current administration cannot, IMO, keep pushing ordinary Americans like this; it turns friends into enemies and sooner or later someone is going to push back.

Obama's idea that Government Knows Best would have been anathema a couple of decades ago.
It most definitely was. It was all about the 'can do' mentality which helped to make America so great. Now we have, well, er...change and as Bonny said, we can't get our astronauts up there any more unless we ask other countries take paying ones.
I think they know that sooner or later there will be consequences. That is why they are spying on everyone.....IMO.

China is considering building a high-speed railway across the Siberia and Bering Strait to Alaska, across Canada to the US. In not so distant future, people can take the train from China to the US, according to Beijing Times Thursday citing Wang Mengshu, a railway expert and academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering.
The proposed journey will start from China's northeast region, cross Siberia to Bering Strait, and run across the Pacific Ocean by undersea tunnel to reach Alaska, from Alaska to Canada, then on to its final destination, the US. To cross Bering Strait will require approximately 200km undersea tunnel, the technology, which is already in place will also be used on Fujian to Taiwan high-speed railway tunnel. The project will be funded and constructed by China. The details of this project are yet to be finalized.
Can't see Sarah Palin being any too happy about a Chinese railway at the bottom of her garden.
