Come off it. If there's one thing the UK can be guaranteed to do, it's negotiate with terrorists. Here's an idea - as the British hostage is rumoured to be a Scot, why not let Alex Salmond negotiate his/her release? The poor sod might actually get home with his/her head still attached to their shoulders.

Incidentally, Hague must know where these maniacs are; they were his best friends a year ago. He was all set to arm them courtesy of the taxpayer, and drag British soldiers into yet another war ON THEIR SIDE.

27,000 Pro-IS Twitter Accounts Since Beheading
After James Foley's murder, Twitter announced a crackdown but it seems as soon as an account is closed down, another replaces it.

A Sky News investigation has found that almost 30,000 Twitter accounts have been set up by IS sympathisers since the social network site declared it would try to stamp them out in the wake of the murder of James Foley.

In the first research of its kind, a unique analysis of the way Muslim extremists are using social media suggests sites are struggling to police postings effectively.

Some 60,000 accounts expressing pro-jihadi views have been set up in total since May, the research found.

And 27,000 of these were established after August 20 - the day after Islamic State posted the video of the beheading of the US journalist.

In the 24 hours following the publication on Tuesday night of a video showing the murder of Steven Sotloff, 10% of all references to the video on the microblogging site were found to be positive.

In the wake of Mr Foley’s murder, Twitter announced it would suspend accounts that posted graphic imagery or 'calls to violent actions'.

Yet the analysis suggests that often as soon as an account is closed down, another replaces it almost instantly - with a simple change of name.

One account identified by the researchers posted a death threat to a journalist, was shut down and within days an account bearing a very similar name was positing similar material.

Another account found by the researchers was shut down, set up again under an almost identical name, posted explicit pictures of dead bodies apparently from the current conflict, was suspended again and then re-emerged under another identity.

The Sky News investigation found that these new accounts are then promoted by other IS-related Twitter accounts.

In this way, the IS supporters are able to circumvent the ongoing efforts to remove them from Twitter.

The social media analysis was carried out on behalf of Sky News by the web intelligence firm Recorded Future.

As part of the research, analysts defined a pro-IS account as one talking about positively about IS and about violence.

The research found that since May, Twitter has proved the most popular source for pro-IS tweets - where users are promoting either material sourced from Twitter or other Twitter accounts.

Staffan Truvé, the chief technology officer of Recorded Future, said: "Clearly, the current manual process where Twitter shuts down accounts that are reported cannot keep up with this tactic.

"We believe automated approaches that use techniques similar to those we have presented here sentiment and network link analysis can be used to successfully block improper content that violates the Twitter rules."

Twitter declined to comment on the research.

Sky News spoke to one of the most prolific IS tweeters via Skype, whose accounts have twice been removed from Twitter but who is still tweeting.

He said he was a 19-year-old living in Western Europe and was proud of his contribution to the Islamic State.

"The reason I started tweeting was to support the mujahideen by activism," he said.

Perish the thought anyone would think the little scrote was just a troll. Ah, if only twitter had listened to all those complaints about the filth being posted by haters on #mccann.

At the 1:00 mark in the short clip with Greta Van Susteran, McCain mentions a meeting the President held with his national security team in which all members reportedly “recommended arming ISIS.”

“Hillary Clinton has described already the meeting in the White House over two years ago… everyone in the national security team recommended arming ISIS and the President, by himself, turned it down,” McCain said.

Presumably he got his terrorist chums muddled up - easy to do, when you're friendly with so many.

Despite McCain and Obama’s never-ending claims of only supporting “moderate rebels,” Free Syrian Army commander Jamal Maarouf admitted in 2014 that his fighters regularly fight alongside Al Qaeda, the same Al Qaeda now “merging” with ISIS on the Syria-Iraq border.

Thousands of jihadists were even trained by US instructors at a secret base in neighboring Jordan before fleeing to Iraq to join ISIS according to one Jordanian official. Similarly, a recent PBS News report featured jihadists who admitted to being trained in Qatar by US forces.

A prominent national security reporter for the Los Angeles Times routinely submitted drafts and detailed summaries of his stories to CIA press handlers prior to publication, according to documents obtained by The Intercept.

Email exchanges between CIA public affairs officers and Ken Dilanian, now an Associated Press intelligence reporter who previously covered the CIA for the Times, show that Dilanian enjoyed a closely collaborative relationship with the agency, explicitly promising positive news coverage and sometimes sending the press office entire story drafts for review prior to publication. In at least one instance, the CIA’s reaction appears to have led to significant changes in the story that was eventually published in the Times.

“I’m working on a story about congressional oversight of drone strikes that can present a good opportunity for you guys,” Dilanian wrote in one email to a CIA press officer, explaining that what he intended to report would be “reassuring to the public” about CIA drone strikes. In another, after a series of back-and-forth emails about a pending story on CIA operations in Yemen, he sent a full draft of an unpublished report along with the subject line, “does this look better?” In another, he directly asks the flack: “You wouldn’t put out disinformation on this, would you?”

President Obama on Friday sought to fine-tune his response to the growing Islamic State terror threat, vowing to "degrade and ultimately defeat" the network -- seemingly abandoning, at least publicly, his previously stated goal of making them a "manageable problem."

"We are going to degrade and ultimately defeat ISIL, the same way we have gone after Al Qaeda," Obama said in Wales, during a press conference at the close of a meeting of NATO allies.

Oh well, if it's going to be as stunningly successful as that chapter of the 'war on terror', we may as well put in orders for burkas.

The idea is for there to be fewer terrorists, not more - and even crazier ones, at that.

He is showing the rest of the world his incompetence.

I suppose it's the usual plan? Bomb and drone more people, generally the wrong ones, and then wonder why there are even more 'terrorists' than before? That plan?

It astounds me that the current Pentagon doesn't seem to grasp the concept of 'revenge'.

It's as though they wish this on the people who pay their salaries.

If something isn't working - indeed, has made matters worse - then any sane people STOP DOING IT AND TRY ANOTHER WAY.

I can't even follow what 'foreign policy' is supposed to be any more, it's becoming so self-defeating and contradictory.

Western military charter plane lands in Iran

An aircraft chartered by coalition forces in Afghanistan, en route from Bagram air base to Dubai, landed Friday in Bandar Abbas, Iran, after Iranian officials questioned its flight plan, U.S. officials said.

The plane had been contacted by Iranian air traffic controllers, who instructed it to return to Afghanistan and file the correct plan. When the pilots informed the Iranians they did not have enough fuel to return to Bagram, they were asked to land.

One official said Iranian fighter jets had escorted the plane, which was carrying approximately 100 Americans and possibly a pair of Canadians, to the ground. Other officials denied that, and said the plane landed on its own. It was expected to resume its flight quickly.

The plane was chartered from Fly Dubai, a company based in the United Arab Emirates.

A spokeswoman for the UAE Embassy in Washington said she was aware of the incident but did not have additional information.

CORRECTION: An earlier version of this story said the plane was chartered by the U.S. military. It was chartered by U.S.-led coalition forces in Afghanistan.
