US bombs Syria, kills civilians and children

Has the US learned NOTHING - not least because apart from the humiliation, the US ended up supporting genocide via Pol Pot and the Khmer Rouge in Cambodia because of the mess they made in Vietnam.

That's all the western hostages now dead men walking, and every single American now has a target on his or her back. And they've killed Syrian children ALREADY.

Let's hope there are no crocodile tears from the US when Syria shoots down their warplanes, as the US yet again bombs a sovereign state that is NO threat to the US. Though it might be to the likes of Haliburton and oil interests.

Good spot, LL. So, Israel has shot down a Syrian jet, even though it wasn't attacking them? And ISIS has no desire to attack Israel? And Qatar has some scheme going with assorted US oil interests involving pipelines across Syria, but they can't do that with Assad in power?

And the US was arming ISIS and al-Nusrah via the 'nice rebels' a year ago? And are now bombing McCain's old chums? I won't pretend to know exactly what's going on here, but it's not what these idiots cheering on the bombing because Something Must Be Done think is happening.

I won't be at all surprised if the US 'accidentally' bombs Damascus before much longer, their aim never was too good.

And why isn't the US bombing Turkey? These manaics cross the Turkish border whenever they feel like a break from all that headchopping.

Why isn't the US bombing Minneapolis? Or Tower Hamlets? Or Bradford? There seem to be precious few actual Arabs involved with ISIS, they all seem to be westerners decapitating other westerners.

Why didn't the US care when Syrian Christians were being horribly slaughtered? Were, in fact, pouring more weapons into the area and training the scum in the best way to commit war crimes?

Syrian Rebels Describe U.S.-Backed Training in Qatar

WASHINGTON — With reports indicating that forces loyal to Syrian President Bashar Assad are gaining ground in that country’s brutal civil war, moderate Syrian rebels have told a visiting journalist that the United States is arranging their training in Qatar.

In a documentary to be aired Tuesday night, the rebels describe their clandestine journey from the Syrian battlefield to meet with their American handlers in Turkey and then travel on to Qatar, where they say they received training in the use of sophisticated weapons and fighting techniques, including, one rebel said, “how to finish off soldiers still alive after an ambush.”

So, someone tipped ISIS off? And yet again, the US has bombed civilians? I wonder how many more jihadists have been created overnight, when Syrian homes and families - and shops - were bombed?

I can't see any way the consequences for the US and its allies are going to be anything except truly horrible.

There seems to be no sense to it, Lily, just bombing for the sake of it. No objective, nothing. The hostages have little chance now, and God knows what is going to happen in the west as payback. Does Washington really, really not get it - the headchoppers WANT to drag the US into a war. And they're succeeding. No-one has ever won a war against guerillas by bombing them.

On Tuesday the group was bombed along with ISIS in Syria. “We had very good indications that this group, which is a very dangerous group, was plotting and planning imminent attacks against Western targets to include the U.S. homeland and it was on that basis that we struck targets, Khorasan targets inside Syria,” Pentagon spokesperson Rear Admiral John Kirby told George Stephanopolous of ABC News.

“Unlike ISIS, which is believed at present to be largely engulfed in its fight for territory. Khorasan is developing fresh plots to target U.S. aviation, and it’s trying to recruit Westerners who have flocked to the fight in Syria, some of whom have joined the al Qaeda franchise in the country, known as the al-Nusra Front… The fear is that U.S. and European passport holders could more easily smuggle explosives onto airplanes,” said former CIA deputy director Mike Morell last week.


At the time we asked why the government concealed the supposed Khorasan threat to aviation after Obama’s ISIS war speech and after weeks of hyperventilating about the terror threat by the establishment media and neocon members of Congress.

Only the United States government and its intelligence agencies are aware of Khorasan and they have not provided evidence to verify that it and a threat to aviation actually exist.

Oh, for goodness sake! I thought ISIS was the most Evil group in the world? Even eviller than Putin and Alex Salmond? And now there's a secret, super-evil group? Pull the other one.

Here's a thing. How would ordinary Americans feel if some nation, thousands of miles away, kept bombing their country, killing and maiming hundreds of thousands of people, and destroying homes, hospitals, infrastructure, everything?

If an ordinary American saw his or her home and loved ones blown to bits. would that make them feel more peaceful?

Or would it make them feel like taking up arms and not stopping till those that had carelessly wiped out everything he or she cared about were dead? Revenge is a terrible thing, it can't be bombed out of existence, and I don't think Washington takes any account of the burning anger it is causing.

Islamic State recruitment soaring in wake of U.S. bombing

The Islamic State jihadist organization has recruited more than 6,000 new fighters since America began targeting the group with air strikes last month, according to the U.K.-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.

At least 1,300 of the new recruits are said to be foreigners, who have joined IS from outside the swathes of Syria and Iraq that it controls.

The United States has launched some 165 air strikes on IS targets since early August. Other strikes have been carried out by the U.K and France, the latest a French attack on a logistics depot in Iraq on Friday.

A number of rebel commanders who oppose IS while continuing to fight the regime of Syrian president Bashar Assad have warned that the strikes are increasing local support for the jihadists.

IS runs aggressive social media-led recruitment campaigns in the Middle East and targets youing Muslims in the West with slick English-language propaganda videos and digital magazines.

The bulk of the foreign fighters who have signed up in the past six weeks are aged between 15 and 20-years-old and have never been involved in a conflict before, according to Abdurrahman Saleh, a spokesman for the Islam Army, part of the Islamic Front rebel group.

The Islamic State receives approximately 20 new recruits a day in the town of north-west Syrian town al-Bab alone, Saleh told The Times newspaper. There are "hundreds" of other towns in Syria seeing a similar level of arrival, he added.

Many of the jihadists are believed to enter Syria across the porous border with Turkey after arriving at the popular tourist airport Antalya on budget airline flights.

Experienced fighters from areas like North Africa and Chechnya receive a monthly wage of up to $980 (3,570 shekels) a month, according to Hussam al-Marie, a spokesman for the Free Syrian Army. Professionals, such as doctors and surgeons, receive even more

I was watching this earlier on Fox, Lily. Obama's justification for ignoring Congress, international law, everything, to bomb yet another nation seems to be some cock-and-bull story about some new Evil group, that were about to do something really, really Evil.

As usual, no proof, not even a glimmer of anything resembling evidence. Even the Fox lot seemed sceptical, and they're usually in favour of wars.

Plus, of course, armchair generals shouting about needing to put Boots on the Ground! Someone's else's Boots, naturally, God forbid any of them should ever get killed in these wars they so casually start.

Iraq has now been bombed by four successive US presidents. And look how well that is working out. There are more enraged terrorists than ever, FFS - when is it going to dawn on these people that BOMBING ISN'T WORKING.

Incidentally, Obama and co would do well to remember that one of the charges against the nazis at Nuremberg was waging illegal aggressive wars....

While the U.S. government acknowledges that there is still a lot to do about the crisis of Central American children entering the country, experts and activists believe that sooner rather than later a new wave of unaccompanied youngsters will arrive at the border with Mexico.
" The situation in Central America hasn't changed, we have the same problems of insecurity and violence, the lack of governability continues and jobs are still a problem - there is no work for young people who are members of cartels or street gangs," the director of the Americas Program of the Center for Strategic and International Studies, Carl Meacham, told Efe on Thursday.

Though the entry of unaccompanied youngsters has declined in recent months following the massive arrivals in May and June, "that won't last long," Meacham said. 
He said that President Barack Obama's delay in easing immigration has sparked dispair among families, which is why they prefer to pay for their kids to be brought north, whatever the risks they run.
"
The president has not acted, Congress has not acted and the circumstances of the situation have not changed. There has been no legislation or change from the executive branch to eliminate the reasons why these children come to the United States," Meacham said.
 By August 31, the number of of minors who had crossed the border unaccompanied was more than 66,000 in fiscal year 2014, which began on October 1, 2013.

Astounding. And yes, I saw that video in which someone dressed up in full ISIS gear, complete with fake severed head, and plain and simply walked into the US unhindered. Madness.

Somewhere in the pre-vote referendum thread, I predicted this would happen as soon as the vote was over if it went the wrong way. Ho hum.

Frankly, I don't think Obama, Cameron or anyone else has a clue what to do. I am none too sure it's even some complicated plot involving oil pipelines, Haliburton, or p*ssing off Russia. I suspect we are actually being run by madmen and idiots that couldn't be trusted to clean a budgie cage.

I always assumed that these things were gamed-out, that the military worked out every possible consequence and permutation of their actions. Now, I don't, I think they're making it up as they go along, and it's just a matter of time before something truly ghastly happens in the west.

And frankly, if I was one of the hostages, I would be begging to learn more about Islam, and volunteering to make as many tapes as they wanted slagging off my idiot government, that clearly doesn't give a flying one about me. Why should anyone die horribly for the benefit of Obama, Cameron and their ilk?
