The unsanitized reality of what Israel is doing is horrible, Lily. Pity those pics weren't on the front page of every single US newspaper, without any words - I don't think it would take long before the money flow was stopped.

Well, I don't know about that one, LL, though there are still a lot of unanswered questions, but yes, doing something appalling then blaming the other guy/victim is the oldest trick in the book.

Ultimately, IMO, these atrocities are liable to bring about the end of Israel. Previously, people pretty much ignored what they were doing to Palestinians, as muslims are, rightly or wrongly, associated with terrorism and atrocities themselves. Then there was the whole guilt thing, all the emotional blackmail.

Israel's lost all of that now, I suspect, the world is watching them acting just like nazis themselves and is rapidly running out of sympathy. I can't see many Americans being too keen on carrying on footing the bill for all this, either.

I don't think it was an inside job, Lily - the WTC had been attacked before, none too succesfully. BUT - I do think it could have been prevented. The information was all there, in assorted files, and there were some very strange dealings going on in the markets in the days before, especially to do with airlines.

I suspect far more people than has been admitted knew it was coming - and a good few of them were Saudis.

Thank you, Bonny. That is something I didn't want to be true but was voicing uncertainties. There was something that happened before in 1993 and you are right, some information was not taken seriously etc.

Sigh..... An endless round of an eye for an eye obviously isn't working. Do they have to blast themselves into infinity before they can hold proper dialogues?

9/11 was a wakeup call. The USA had been complacent for years watching the assorted wars and insurgencies in Europe, Africa and the Far East. Remember America entered WW2 only because of Pearl Harbor, up to then they had been 'isolationist'. WW2 started on 1/9/1939, USA joined in on 7/12/1941; no-one invaded them during WW2 unlike the European countries. The UK was the only country fighting in WW2 that was never invaded, Switzerland, Eire, Portugal, Vatican City, Spain and Sweden were neutral. It was, and still is, a unbelievable affront to Americans that something like 9/11 could happen, it caused much trauma. It also started off this fixation that all Muslims are terrorists. After years of believing they were safe, the US were suddenly very vulnerable and someone, probably Bin Laden, who seems to have been a clever and shrewd man, took advantage of this. When people believe that something could never happen to them it often does. LL

It's worth remembering that 9/11 was just a means to an end to Bin Laden, LL. He wanted to drag the US into an unwinnable 'war on terror'.

You are welcome. I did, at one point, consider going to live in the US for good, but it is too far from Europe and I couldn't hop on a train or drive to Vienna as and when I felt like it. I am a total European, I would never really feel at home in the US, though I did enjoy my time there and I will always have fond memories of the country and its people who were so welcoming and helpful. I saw Netanyahu and two military bods on TV earlier, LL, I struggled to resist the urge to put something through the screen. They were horrifying, they simply do not care, they just trotted out the usual cliches and announced they were carrying on bombing...

This is ten times worse than anything Gaddafi did, and the world's just watching and doing nothing.

The murdering sh*ts should be thrown out of the UN for this. They've destroyed everything, the power station, homes, schools, the TV and radio stations. They're committing genocide, and shame on the world for letting them.       

TEHRAN, Iran – Iran’s supreme leader says Muslims from all over the world should help arm Gaza Palestinians in their fight against Israel.

Tuesday’s call by Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was his latest such message during the ongoing war between Gaza’s Hamas rulers and Israel.

If we're angry and sickened watching this from a distance, LL, imagine how muslims in the Middle East feel? At some point in the future, this barbarity is, IMO, going to rebound tenfold on Israel.
