Here central heating can be run on special wood-burning ceramic fires - two of my neighbors have this system. I chose the gaz as it is cleaner, less dust and no fires to clean out each day. Bending down is a slight problem these days. LLbb1 wrote:Industry, LL. You can't run anything bigger than a domestic kitchen on wood.

You'd be amazed at just what natural gas is needed for, LL, heating's the obvious one, but industry needs it as well. No gas? No big bakeries for the cities, very little food processing at all. Hospitals, schools, everything depends on it. It's needed to generate electricity, all sorts of things besides simple domestic heating.

More joy from Ukraine; I am deeply sorry for the ordinary Ukrainians who are in this plight because of their corrupt, imbecile leaders. Who seem to be strangers to the concept of paying your fuel bills.
perhaps Ukraine should finally pay Gazprom not only for the gas they would like to use in the future, but also the gas they have already used and payment for which is overdue and which the IMF, i.e., the US taxpayer, gave Ukraine explicit money to pay for and instead was embezzled by the people in power.
Which was as predictable as sunrise.

http://www.zerohedge.com/news/2014-09-27/russia-discovers-massive-arctic-oil-field-which-may-be-larger-gulf-mexico
In a dramatic stroke of luck for the Kremlin, this morning there is hardly a person in the world who is happier than Russian president Vladimir Putin because overnight state-run run OAO Rosneft announced it has discovered what may be a treasure trove of black oil, one which could boost Russia's coffers by hundreds of billions if not more, when a vast pool of crude was discovered in the Kara Sea region of the Arctic Ocean, showing the region has the potential to become one of the world’s most important crude-producing areas, arguably bigger than the Gulf Of Mexico. The announcement was made by Igor Sechin, Rosneft’s chief executive officer, who spent two days sailing on a Russian research ship to the drilling rig where the find was unveiled today.

What a shame for the US oil companies that had been working with Russia, that Obama's told them not to speak to those nasty rough Russkis.
At what point are sane Americans going to tell the Dear Leader to spin on it, because western economies are in a big enough mess without him getting into a p*ssing contest with the largest country on the planet?
