That country is a basket case; I previously referred to it as Haiti in Europe, but plainly, that's unfair to Haiti. It's nothing but a kleptocracy run by the far Right.

I have little doubt that most of it is sitting in Panamanian bank accounts, Lily, waiting for the day the latest load of crooks get kicked out; I've seen suggestions that Right Sektor is very unhappy with the way things are going, after they played such a leading role in the coup.

Missing Russian journalist Andrey Stenin confirmed dead in Ukraine

Russian journalist Andrey Stenin, missing in eastern Ukraine for a month, has been confirmed dead, RIA Novosti, the news agency where he worked, reports. He was in vehicle, traveling in a convoy containing escaping civilians when it came under heavy fire.
Stenin apparently died in a vehicle, on his way to an assignment, according to the agency’s director, Dmitriy Kisilev.
“The car had been shot up and burnt on a highway in the vicinity of Donetsk,” he said in a statement. “The autopsy results came back this morning. He was indeed in that car – the 33-year-old young man, a brilliant professional, someone who cared.”
Russia's Investigative Committee has determined that the car had come under fire as a Ukrainian attack on the self-defense forces was taking place. The car had been travelling in a convoy, together with those escaping the conflict. It was guarded by six members of the self-defense forces.
The unit that carried out the attack was also using a tank, according to the investigators.
More than 10 cars containing peaceful civilians had been shot up. The contents of the vehicles, including the civilians' belongings, had come into Ukrainian posession.
The following day Ukrainian commanders arrived at the scene. According to Vladimir Markin of the Investigative Committee and testimony gathered from bystanders, "they weren't only inspecting the wreckages and identifying bodies, but were also loading the contents of the vehicles into their own and searching the remains," he said.
"After the commanders had left the scene, it was fired on with Grad missiles," he added.
"The investigation will not stop at determining the exact details of the shooting. It also aims to find those responsible and bring them to justice."
Moscow has asked that Kiev carry out the same "impartial and thorough investigation."
It was only on August 27 that Russian authorities had been given the remains of the five persons who were in the car with Stenin at the time of the attack. "Russian experts studied the remains, which contained those of Stenin as well," Markin told journalists.
Kisilev also said that mediators on the Ukrainian side were earlier offering to negotiate Stenin's release - possibly an exchange - in this way giving credence to the view that he may be alive.
Stenin, 33, a photojournalist contributing to several leading Russian and international news agencies including AP, Reuters, AFP, Rossiya Segodnya (RIA Novosti) and ITAR-TASS, had been covering the conflict in eastern Ukraine before all contact with him was lost on August 5.
In mid-August, Anton Gerashchenko, an adviser to the Ukrainian interior minister, said that Stenin had been arrested by the Ukrainian Security Service for “aiding and glorifying terrorism.” He later backtracked on the statement.
Stenin’s disappearance prompted rallies in his support all over the world, as well as an online campaign #FreeAndrew.
I don't expect there to be an international outcry about this; some journalist's lives seem to be worth less than others. Especially when they've been killed by Our Gallant Allies in Kiev.

Russia And Ukraine Agree 'Permanent Ceasefire'
Markets rally as Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko reaches agreement with Vladimir Putin to bring an end to the conflict.
Russian President Vladimir Putin and his Ukraine counterpart Petro Poroshenko have agreed a permanent ceasefire to end the conflict in Ukraine.
Putin's spokesman Dmitry Peskov was quoted as saying by Russian news agencies that the leaders' views "overlap to a considerable degree".
"The heads of state exchanged opinions about what needs to be done first in order to bring an end to the bloodletting in the southeast of the country as soon as possible," said Mr Peskov.
More at link.
I wonder if it was the prospect of ending up dangling from a Kiev lamppost that has helped concentrate Porky's mind as his thugs are chased out of Donbass? Or is it the approach of General Winter?
Whatever is happening, let's hope the warmongers in Westminster and Washington keep their noses out.

Re: Ukraine arrest warrant for ex-leader Yanukovych
President Poroshenko had announced a “permanent ceasefire” in east Ukraine. This comes following a phone call with President Putin, which talked of concrete steps to be taken toward ending hostilities in the area.
Although a corresponding message from Poroshenko’s office initially talked of a “permanent ceasefire”, Putin’s spokesperson Dmitry Peskov underlined that this wording is not applicable because Russia isn’t a party to the violence.
“In the course of today’s phone call between Putin and Poroshenko there was indeed an exchange of views that went a long way toward an agreement on steps to be taken for a swift end to the clashes taking place between the Ukrainian military and south-eastern uprising,” Peskov said.
But the spokesperson thought it important to point out that because the conflict is an internal one – and not one between two countries. This view has already been voiced by President Putin last week in Minsk, where he met the Ukrainian leader.
“Frankly speaking, we can’t frame the discussion in ceasefire terms, those concerning any possible negotiations between Kiev, Donetsk and Lugansk – this isn’t any of our business, it is Ukraine’s,” the Russian president said then.
Donetsk authorities say they are willing to engage in a diplomatic settlement with Kiev if it proves its commitment to peace by stopping the shelling.
Dmitry Peskov at the Russian president’s press office said the two leaders “have largely agreed” on the measures to be taken for a swift end to the violence.
Maybe Obama won't need to send any troops to Ukraine to 'repair schools' after all?

Incidentally, has Porky forgotten that a couple of days ago, he was running around claiming Ukraine had been 'invaded' by Russia, and his ramblings were used by Westminster and Washington as an excuse to beat the wardrums faster?
As usual with utterances from Kiev, it was total mince - and shame on idiots in the west for continuing to pay attention to this lying, corrupt clown.,

Kiev must withdraw troops from southeastern regions of Ukraine and rebels must stop offensive to stop bloodshed, Russia’s President Vladimir Putin says. He and Ukrainian leader Petro Poroshenko discussed "a ceasefire regime."

President Putin has outlined a seven-point plan to stabilize the situation in the crisis-torn east of Ukraine.
“On my way here from [the city of] Blagoveschensk to Ulan-Bator [Mongolia], I outlined some ideas and plan of actions. It’s here, but in handwriting,” Putin told reporters.
1. Stop offensive of armed self-defense forces in southeastern Ukraine towards Donetsk and Lugansk Regions.
2. Pull back Ukrainian armed forces to a distance that excludes the possibility of shelling settlements with artillery and all kinds of volley fire.
3. To implement full and objective international control over the observance of the ceasefire and monitoring of the situation created thereby in the security zone.
4. To exclude the use of combat aircraft against civilians and villages in the conflict zone.
5. Organize the exchange of persons kept in captivity via an ‘all-in-all’ formula, without any preconditions.
6. Open humanitarian corridors for moves of refugees and delivery of humanitarian goods to cities and other populated areas of Donbass – the Donetsk and Lugansk Regions.
7. To provide direct access of repair crews to destroyed social and carrying infrastructure in affected towns of Donbass, and provide aid to them.
Putin expressed hope that final agreements between Kiev and militia in southeastern Ukraine could be reached and secured at the coming meeting of the so-called contact group on September 5.
“I hope the leaders of Ukraine will support the anticipated progress in bilateral relations,” Russia’s president said.
He called on Ukraine to take an active part in the work of the contact group “for a final and comprehensive settlement of the situation in the southeastern Ukraine, of course, with full and unconditional assurance of the legitimate rights of the people who live there.”
Commenting on the phone call with the Ukrainian president earlier on Wednesday, Putin stressed that their “views on ways to resolve the conflict are aligned.”

Re: Ukraine arrest warrant for ex-leader Yanukovych
The president said Putin’s 'brazen assault on the territorial integrity of Ukraine' had threatened peace in Europe and assured Baltic leaders assembled in Tallin that the U.S. and NATO would defend them militarily if their sovereignty is threatened.
He said history had shown that the ‘big cannot bully the small’ and ‘an attack on one, is an attack on all’.

http://www.euronews.com/2014/09/04/marine-le-pen-criticises-frances-decision-to-halt-mistral-warship-sale-to-russia/
Marine Le Pen has denounced the decision by France to put on hold the delivery of two Mistral helicopter carriers to Russia because of Moscow’s actions in eastern Ukraine.
Le Pen said the decision showed that France was failing to stand up for itself and was being submissive in the face of American diplomacy.
“This decision is very serious, first because it goes against the interests of the country,” said Marine Le Pen on RTL.
A refusal to deliver the two ships, the sale of which amounts to €1.2bn, means France would have to compensate Moscow.
The president of the National Front has hit out at the “huge cost” for employment and taxpayers, arguing that the fines could reach up to €10bn.
Four hundred Russian soldiers have been training to operate the carriers since the end of June in shipyards at Saint-Nazaire. Delivery had been due to begin in October.

I should think she's delighted at Hollande's servile conduct. It's going to cost France a fortune, lose thousands of French jobs, and brand France forever as an unreliable partner that breaks business contracts on orders from Washington.
All of which means more support and votes for her.

Impossible to tell how accurate that is, given that the source is Russia 1, but if it is even half-truthful, then there is a lamppost in Kiev with Porky's name on it, courtesy of the Right Sektot battalions, and the other private armies of the oligarchs.

Nato Leaders To Unveil Tough Russia Sanctions
Russia is facing a new raft of punishing sanctions over its "escalation" of the crisis in eastern Ukraine.
Translation: our Dear Leaders are getting ready to further bankrupt their own countries at Obama's behest to show Putin they really, really mean it this time..
Meanwhile, they are cooking up schemes to further breach post Cold War treaties by putting NATO forces right on Russia's borders.
And I doubt if Putin is too bothered about their much-vaunted 'Rapid reaction force'. What cannon fodder is going to be in it? Dutch troops, best known for wearing hair nets, and currently in disgrace over the massacre of 300 Bosnians when NATO attacked Yugoslavia? UK troops, when the state itself is fracturing, and the military has been slashed to the bone? Germans? They would do well to remember what happened to them the last time they annoyed Russia, and how it ended...
American troops? After the military has been purged of competent officers by Obama, and they're more interested in LGTB gender awareness campaigns? Or taking the state to court because certain acceptable female military hairdoes are 'racist'?
Just look at them - have you ever seen a more corrupt, incompetent, mendacious shower?

Jack Matlock, U.S. ambassador to the Soviet Union from 1987 to 1991, says that the U.S. and NATO are to blame for the Ukraine crisis:
The fact is they are going to intervene until they are certain that there is no prospect of Ukraine becoming a member of NATO. And all of the threats by NATO and so on to sort of increase defenses elsewhere is simply provocative to the Russians. Now, I’m not saying that’s right, but I am saying that’s the way Russia is going to react. And frankly, this is all predictable. And those of us who helped negotiate the end of the Cold War almost unanimously said in the 1990s, “Do not expand NATO eastward. Find a different way to protect eastern Europe, a way that includes Russia. Otherwise, eventually there’s going to be a confrontation, because there is a red line, as far as any Russian government is concerned, when it comes to Ukraine and Georgia and other former republics of the Soviet Union.”

It is NATO, not Russia, that has torn up the agreements made when the Iron Curtain fell.

Reports: Ukraine And Rebels Agree Ceasefire
Ukraine's president says "we must do everything, possible and impossible" to end the bloodshed in his country
The Ukrainian government has agreed a ceasefire with pro-Russian rebels in the east of the country.
Ukraine's President Petro Poroshenko confirmed on his Twitter account that a peace plan had been signed, while pro-Russian rebels also announced the news on the social media site.
They said the deal was due to come into force at 4pm UK time.
Mr Poroshenko, who has been attending a Nato summit in Wales, said: "Human life is the highest value and we must do everything possible and impossible to end the bloodshed and the suffering."
Talks have been taking place between Ukraine and pro-Russian rebels in the Belarussian capital, Minsk. Representatives of Russia and the OSCE security watchdog have also been at the discussions.
Separately, Ukraine's Prime Minister Arseny Yatseniuk said in a televised cabinet meeting in Kiev that the peace plan must include three key elements - a ceasefire, the withdrawal of "Russian forces and Russian bandits and terrorists" and the restoration of Ukraine's state border with Russia.
Sky's Katie Stallard, who is on eastern city limits of Mariupol, eastern Ukraine, said the shelling had continued following the announcement of the ceasefire.
"There is very little confidence among people here on the ground in a ceasefire," she said.
"People on the checkpoints on the city limits today say that every single previous ceasefire, they have still been fired upon.
"They fully expect that to happen again after whatever is announced today."
Meanwhile, Nato announced plans to create a 'Spearhead' rapid-response force to counter Russian aggression in Ukraine.
But Moscow said joint military exercises planned by Kiev and Nato in Ukraine - and announced along with the Spearhead force - could undermine peace moves.
Russia's foreign ministry said in a statement that military exercises - planned for September 16-26 - would cause "increased tensions, threaten the tentative progress in the peace process in Ukraine and contribute to the aggravation of a split in the Ukraine society."
More follows...
Mr Poroshenko, who has been attending a Nato summit in Wales, said: "Human life is the highest value and we must do everything possible and impossible to end the bloodshed and the suffering."

Says the man that's killed more of his fellow Ukrainians than Israel killed Gazans.

Kiev, E. Ukraine militia agree on ceasefire starting 1500 GMT Friday

Kiev officials and representatives of the two self-proclaimed republics in southeastern Ukraine have agreed to a ceasefire, as the contact group met behind closed doors in Belarus.
Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko has confirmed the ceasefire agreement on his Twitter account.
The truce agreement comes into force starting 6 pm local time (15:00 GMT).
The president has ordered to cease fire starting at the time stated in the protocol.
“I give the order to the chief of the General staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces to cease fire, starting from 18.00 [local time] on September 5,” Poroshenko's statement says.
Poroshenko then called on both the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry and the OSCE to provide international monitoring of compliance with the bilateral ceasefire.
“We must do everything possible and impossible to stop bloodshed and put an end to people’s suffering,” the president said in a statement posted on his official website.
Poroshenko expressed hope that both sides would comply with the ceasefire agreement.
The self-proclaimed Donetsk People’s Republic earlier confirmed the ceasefire agreement on its official Twitter account.
Both Donetsk and Lugansk have said they are ready to lay down arms starting from 15:00GMT.
Representatives of the rebel forces have said they will obey the ceasefire if Kiev follows suit.
“Most of the points of the protocol correspond with our demands,” Lugansk’s leader Igor Plotnitsky said.
“However, the ceasefire does not mean a shift from our course of breaking away from Ukraine. This is a compulsory measure,” he said.
With military action continuing throughout southeastern Ukraine, the region is risking facing an imminent humanitarian catastrophe. Water and electricity supplies have been disrupted, leaving dozens of people without basic essentials. In Lugansk only one hospital appeared to be operational, the OSCE’s Special Monitoring Mission reported earlier this week.
Since the conflict significantly deteriorated in mid-April, 2,593 people have died in fighting in the east of the country, the UN reported last week. More than 6,033 have been wounded in the turmoil.
The number of internally displaced Ukrainians has reached 260,000, with another 814,000 finding refuge in Russia, the UN said.
The OSCE’s Heidi Tagliavini has welcomed the agreement saying “it is good news.”
She has revealed that the protocol consists of 12 points, and “the ceasefire is the chief one.”
The participants in the talks will prepare another document - a memorandum on settling the situation in Ukraine, a Donetsk representative said.
The two sides accompanied by representatives of Russia and the OSCE were meeting in the Belorussian capital, Minsk, in an attempt to end the bloodshed in eastern Ukraine.
In their recent phone call on September 3, the presidents of Russia and Ukraine, Vladimir Putin and Petro Poroshenko, showed a willingness to find an agreement to resolve the months-long conflict in the southeastern Ukraine.
Following the conversation with his counterpart, President Putin laid out a seven-point plan that could help find a solution.

Worth keeping an eye on this scumbag:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ihor_Kolomoyskyi
Ihor Valeriyovych Kolomoyskyi (Ukrainian: Ігор Валерійович Коломойський; Russian: Игорь Валерьевич Коломойский, Igor Kolomoisky; born February 13, 1963) is an Ukrainian-Cypriot[5]-Israeli business oligarch of Jewish descent and the current Governor of Dnipropetrovsk Oblast.[9]
He has his own private army of fellow-scum operating in Donbass.
And this....

Burisma Holdings is part of the vast business empire of Ukraine’s second richest billionaire oligarch, Ihor Kolomoisky. Joining Hunter Biden on the Burisma Board of Directors is no less than Aleksander Kwaśniewski, named in January just weeks before the US Kiev coup. Kwaśniewski was President of the Republic of Poland during the G.W. Bush presidency. Chairman of Burisma is a Wall Street former Merrill Lynch investment banker named Alan Apter. Finally, Burisma also at the same time named to the board Devon Archer, Hunter Biden’s partner at a US investment firm, Rosemont Seneca Partners, and a manager of the family wealth fund of Secretary of State John Kerry’s wife Theresa Heinz Kerry, widow of Henry Heinz III. Archer also sits on the board of the family’s Howard J. Heinz trust. So with these two board appointments in April, Burisma gained the son of the Vice President of the United States and the financial adviser to the family of the Secretary of State. Not bad for an almost unknown Ukraine-Cyprus company.[3] - See more at: http://www.boilingfrogspost.com/2014/08/05/bfp-exclusive-stench-of-corruption-a-ukraine-oligarch-shale-gas-civil-war-baby-biden/#sthash.CCBIgyzK.dpuf

Re: Ukraine arrest warrant for ex-leader Yanukovych
As we detailed in a previous article, [6] Kolomoisky, a Ukrainian who also holds an Israeli passport and who runs his Privat Group empire from Switzerland, has raised his own private army as governor to wage war against the east Ukraine rebels. Rebels who just happen to live in the area where he has a joint venture with the Anglo-Dutch energy giant, Shell, to drill for shale gas.[7] - See more at: http://www.boilingfrogspost.com/2014/08/05/bfp-exclusive-stench-of-corruption-a-ukraine-oligarch-shale-gas-civil-war-baby-biden/#sthash.CCBIgyzK.dpuf

But while Putin is sure to respond to the EU's latest escalation, one person he will certainly have no response to is Patriarch Filaret, the head of Ukraine's Kiev-based Orthodox Church, who said Putin had fallen under Satan's spell and bore personal responsibility for all the bloodshed. As Reuters reports, Filaret, whose church broke from the Moscow Patriarchate in 1992 after the fall of the Soviet Union and the advent of an independent Ukraine, compared Putin, a baptised Orthodox Christian, to Cain, who in the Bible killed his brother Abel.
So based on western propaganda, Putin has now been compared to everything from Hitler, to Stalin, to Cain, to Satan. Clearly everyone is being objective and level-headed.
It can only get worse if religion is dragged into it....
One has to admire the irony of the president of Russia being a practising Christian, and very keen on trade, making money, etc, while the president of the US is widely suspected of being a muslim, who inflicts bizarre marxist-lite theory on his unfortunate subjects.
Obama really should listen to Putin on political theory and economics - he knows better than anyone that communism doesn't work. Even China is communist in name only.
