Re: Political, financial turmoil in Greece
The German Patriot air and missile defense systems, stationed at the Turkish border with Syria, have carried out “unexplained” commands allegedly issued by unknown hackers, according to a German media report since rebutted by the government.
The US-produced missile systems, belonging to the German Bundeswehr armed forces and based on the territory of NATO ally Turkey since 2013, have been compromised, according to a report in the German Behörden Spiegel.
Oh joy! Just perfect! And who have they been commanded to point at, one wonders?

(1 of 3) The issue we are experiencing is an internal technical issue and is not the result of a cyber breach.
No, of course it wasn't, none of them are.
Who was it? China? Russia? Soros? The Confederate flag?

Was wondering that very thing, Bonny. The problem is that there are so many possibilities to choose from.

Re: Political, financial turmoil in Greece
http://www.zerohedge.com/news/2015-07-10/chart-keeps-angela-merkel-night
With elections looming, Merkel's bullying tactics - that her creditor demands trump any sovereign growth ambitions another nation may have - mean if nations want more Europe, they really mean more Germany.
Merkel and a few others have, IMO, done irreparable damage to the whole concept of the EU over the past few weeks. They've proved the hard-core Eurosceptics were right all along, and disgusted former supporters of the EU with their open bullying.
And not once has Merkel - or any of her cronies - showed the slightest concern for the suffering of ordinary Greeks, saving her concern for banks. Especially German ones.
She's done as good a job of ripping scabs off wounds most people were long healed as Obama has done.

The Greek "Choice": Hand Over Sovereignty Or Take Five Year Euro "Time Out"
I don't see how Tsipras can agree to any of that, unless he wants to end up dangling from a lamppost courtesy of the Greek public, as it is the complete opposite of what he was voted in to do.
It's the complete opposite of what Greece voted for only a week ago - unless I am missing something in this tangled tale?

Re: Political, financial turmoil in Greece
http://www.zerohedge.com/news/2015-07-12/eur-indicated-100-pips-lower-after-tsipras-mental-waterboarding
As The Guardian reports,
Alexis Tsipras was given a very rough ride in his meeting with Tusk, Merkel and Hollande, our Europe editor Ian Traynor reports.
Tsipras was told that Greece will either become an effective “ward” of the eurozone, by agreeing to immediately implement swift reforms this week.
Or, it leaves the euro area and watches its banks collapse.
One official dubbed it “extensive mental waterboarding”, in an attempt to make the Greek PM fall into line.
An unpleasant image, that highlights just how far we have now fallen from those European standards of solidarity and unity
It sure does.
The Guardian:
http://www.theguardian.com/business/live/2015/jul/12/greek-debt-crisis-eu-leaders-meeting-cancelled-no-deal-live
Some quite good reporting about the politics of all this - and emotions in Greece, which our Imperial Masters seem to have overlooked.

Looking at recent developments it basically looks like Germany refuses to accept Greece's surrender.
This is, IMO, the beginning of the end for the WHOLE EU project.
No-one paying attention to this can kid themselves it is for the benefit of anyone besides our would-be lords and masters.

This isn't good.

Suppose you consider Tsipras an incompetent twerp. Suppose you dearly want to see Syriza out of power. Suppose, even, that you welcome the prospect of pushing those annoying Greeks out of the euro.
Even if all of that is true, this Eurogroup list of demands is madness. The trending hashtag ThisIsACoup is exactly right. This goes beyond harsh into pure vindictiveness, complete destruction of national sovereignty, and no hope of relief. It is, presumably, meant to be an offer Greece can’t accept; but even so, it’s a grotesque betrayal of everything the European project was supposed to stand for.
Can anything pull Europe back from the brink? Word is that Mario Draghi is trying to reintroduce some sanity, that Hollande is finally showing a bit of the pushback against German morality-play economics that he so signally failed to supply in the past. But much of the damage has already been done. Who will ever trust Germany’s good intentions after this?

I know, I don't blame them one bit. Merkel seems to have NO idea of the long-term consequences of what she's doing and saying, or maybe she just doesn't care? I don't know, but this is insanity.
The person that mentioned the Treaty of Versailles is spot-on. Has Merkel forgotten how well it worked out when Germany was saddled with debts it couldn't repay? Does she imagine human nature has magically changed in ninety years?
