Pedro, I am not particularly Christian, so that doesn't really apply to me, you would have to ask a committed Christian.

But Christians are ridiculed all the time by that magazine, and by others, and by supposed 'avante-guarde' artists in the most obscene fashion - far, far worse than anything said about Islam.

Maybe committed Christians are secure enough in their faith these days that they don't feel the need to slaughter anyone that doesn't agree with them? Though they did a great deal of pagan-slaughtering in the past, as well as slaughtering each other over whose version of god was correct.

It's what a lot of people want to say but don't dare, for fear of being accused of something or other.

Both Jews and Arabs are classed as Semites. They worship the same God but called by a different name.

They both believe in resurrection, judgment, heaven and hell.

They require male circumcision.

Don't eat pork, and in fact have strict dietary guidelines like the Orthodox Jews.

They live by their unique lunar calendar etc.

Segregate men and women in Orthodox Judaism.

The men cover their heads in prayer in a similar type of cap.

Was amazed by the similarities while I was living in the ME and discussed that with some locals. Of course they have dissimilarities too.

They do not object to Jews but do object to Israelis because of their stance on Palestine.

I was referring more to how they live than their books, LL.

The front cover of the magazine - which had an initial print run of three million - depicts the Prophet Mohammed holding a sign that says "Je suis Charlie," the slogan taken up by supporters since the attack a week ago.

Despite warnings that the image could provoke further attacks by extremists, queues formed at newsstands in the French capital from 6am and at some the issue sold out before 8am.

Charlie Hebdo distributors have since confirmed that figure will be boosted to five million copies to meet demand.

One woman working at a newspaper kiosk said: "It was incredible. I had a queue of 60-70 people waiting for me when I opened.

The Malian who helped hostages at a Jewish supermarket to hide during last week's terror attacks in Paris is to be made a citizen of France.

It comes after 220,000 people signed an online petition calling for Lassana Bathily to be given a French passport and the Legion d'honneur, the country's highest honour.

The decision to award him citizenship was announced by France's interior minister Bernard Cazeneuve, who said he would preside over the ceremony next Tuesday.

Mr Bathily, a practising Muslim who has lived in France since 2006, had applied for French nationality last July.

The 24-year-old has been widely praised for his actions in saving people who would otherwise have been taken captive by terrorist Amedy Coulibaly, who was later shot dead by police.

As the siege at the Hypercacher store in eastern Paris began, Mr Bathily, an employee, ushered a group of trapped customers into a cold storage room, shutting off the refrigeration system.

"I heard shots and I saw my colleagues and clients running down," he recalled later. "I told them 'Come, come,' (and) got them into the freezer."

Mr Bathily proposed helping them escape through the delivery lift, but when no-one wanted to take the risk he fled alone.

Once outside he flagged down police and gave them information on the layout of the store that was used in the assault which ended the siege. More at link.

Well deserved, too, I don't think many people could have kept their nerve so heroically in those circumstances. I hope he does get the Legion d'honneur; if anyone has earned it, Mr Bathily has.
