Re: Re-interment of King Richard III
I must say, I love the way Richard is the only person EVER to have three 'dates'-
RIII
1452 - 1485 - 2015
I do a double take every time I see that.
Oh, I see we have Julian Fellowes, he's OK. Robert Lindsay isn't bad, either.

Re: Re-interment of King Richard III
Oh, how lovely! The Archbishop of Canterbury has brought Richard's OWN prayerbook, which has also survived somehow.

Re: Re-interment of King Richard III
Believed to have been found in his tent after the battle. No medieval person would have destroyed a prayer book, so that kept it safe. LLbb1 wrote:Oh, how lovely! The Archbishop of Canterbury has brought Richard's OWN prayerbook, which has also survived somehow.

Ah yes, of course! And neither of the Cromwells got their filthy paws on it, either.

Re: Re-interment of King Richard III
He must be chuckling if he can hear himself being praised by a Stanley.
That was a good point by Phillipa Gregory - that all this is somehow removing the veil of time.

Re: Re-interment of King Richard III
I have a small gripe with C4 - they keep saying 'descendent of Rlll' which is incorrect as Richard left no descendents, the proper designation would be 'Richard, Duke of York, father of Rlll'. LL

Just remember the mass audience they are playing to, LL. There are one or two niggles, naturally, but on the whole, IMO, they are doing a fine job in telling a rather bizarre and complicated story.
As long as David Starkey doesn't turn up, it's all good.

Maybe I'm being pedantic, butg the legal side of me wants truth first and last. LLbb1 wrote:Just remember the mass audience they are playing to, LL. There are one or two niggles, naturally, but on the whole, IMO, they are doing a fine job in telling a rather bizarre and complicated story.

Re: Re-interment of King Richard III
I think C4 got the rights, Sabot, because they were involved right from the start, when they thought they were making a documentary about eccentrics on a wild goose chase?
LL, am I right in thinking that it's the Queen's Band that is playing outside?

Not sure which military band it is, but I think it was said that they were from one of the Royal Regiments. LLbb1 wrote:I think C4 got the rights, Sabot, because they were involved right from the start, when they thought they were making a documentary about eccentrics on a wild goose chase?

Service now - I love the history guy's medieval hat. And the Jewish guy sitting next to the Franciscan monk.
LL, did I see a couple of Beefeaters from the Tower on duty at the Cathedral gate?
Oh my, Richard is the second-most popular monarch after the present HM!

Re: Re-interment of King Richard III
Henry the Seventh will be turning in his grave. And so will his mad mother. It's all her fault. IMO.
History has a nasty habit of sorting the good guys from the bad ones. Although Karma had a bit of a hand in this one.

It doesn't usually take as long as this for things to be put right, Sabot. And Someone Somewhere definitely had a hand in this one...

That's him, retired head of the army, with more gongs than a Tibetan shrine! LLbb1 wrote:It doesn't usually take as long as this for things to be put right, Sabot. And Someone Somewhere definitely had a hand in this one...

Only for His Grace would I sit through choral 'singing' - glad I'm somewhat deaf so it's fairly distant! LL
