SOTU enters its eighth and final season. What we can expect. The television show SOTU premiered a teaser promo on Twitter Tuesday night, hoping to get viewers who have fallen off over the course of recent seasons excited for the long-overdue final season’s premiere on January 12. The season will conclude with a series finale in January 2017. Not much is revealed about the plot of the upcoming season, but the promo does feature the smirking president (played by Barack Obama) adjusting his white-tie tuxedo, an upbeat image in stark contrast to how last season ended: the country he presides over suffering another devastating terror attack in California, as well as one in Paris, with our hero rushing away to Hawaii.

Members of an armed militia stormed a national wildlife building in Oregon on Saturday, following a protest in support of ranchers facing jail time for arson.

Ammon Bundy told the Oregonian that he and two of his brothers were among a group of dozens of people occupying the Malheur Wildlife Refuge headquarters in Burns. Ammon Bundy is the son of Nevada rancher Cliven Bundy, who was involved in a standoff with the government over grazing rights.

Ammon Bundy posted a video on his Facebook page urging militia members to come and support the cause. He said “this is not a time to stand down. It’s a time to stand up and come to Harney County,” where Burns is located. Below the video is this statement: "(asterisk)(asterisk)ALL PATRIOTS ITS TIME TO STAND UP NOT STAND DOWN!!! WE NEED YOUR HELP!!! COME PREPARED."

He told reporters late Saturday that the group was occupying the government building because “the people have been abused long enough.

"I feel we are in a situation where if we do not do something, if we do not take a hard stand, we'll be in a position where we'll be no longer able to do so," Ammon Bundy added.

He said the group plans to stay at the refuge indefinitely.

"We're planning on staying here for years, absolutely," he said. "This is not a decision we've made at the last minute."

From what I've read about it, Stalin would be proud of the 'Bureau of Land Management'.

Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) says attacks against former President Bill Clinton’s sexual history are not fair game for politicians looking to defeat his wife and Democratic primary front-runner Hillary Clinton.

“I think, you know, we have enormous problems facing this country, and I think we got more things to worry about than Bill Clinton’s sexual life,” Sanders said Sunday on ABC’s “This Week.”

Republican primary front-runner Donald Trump has recently made the sexual allegations against Clinton an issue in the White House race.

Sanders said Trump would be better off focusing on serious issues facing the nation, like climate change.

“I think – interestingly enough, maybe Donald Trump might want to focus attention on climate change, understand that climate change is not a hoax, as he believes that it is, that maybe Donald Trump should understand that we should raise the minimum wage in this country, which he opposes, and maybe we should not be giving huge tax breaks to fellow billionaires like Donald Trump,” he said.

The former president has denied the allegations of assault and harassment, as well as accusations of infidelity.

Sanders previously came to Hillary Clinton’s defense at the first Democratic primary debate, when he said the American people were “sick and tired” of hearing about the FBI investigation into her private email server.

President Obama formally announced plans Tuesday to expand background checks and make other changes to America’s gun rules via executive action, bypassing Congress and fueling an election-year fight with Republicans.

“Everybody should have to abide by the same rules,” Obama said at the White House.

The president said background checks "make a difference" and will be expanded so that they can cover purchases online, at gun shows and in other venues.

“Anybody in the business of selling firearms must get a license and conduct background checks or be subject to criminal prosecutions,” he said. Obama was flanked by victims of gun violence and was introduced by Mark Barden, whose son was killed in the Sandy Hook mass shooting.

At the heart of Obama's plan is a more sweeping definition of gun dealers that the administration hopes will expand the number of gun sales subject to background checks. At gun shows, websites and flea markets, sellers often skirt that requirement by declining to register as licensed dealers, but officials said the new federal guidance clarifies that it applies to anyone "in the business" of selling firearms.

And it won't keep a single firearm out of the hands of criminals, or nutcases, any more than very strict laws do in the UK and Europe.
