I'm not convinced that was an accidental 'disaster'. I suspect Dr Carson may have, in fact, been trolling the rest of the candidates and making it clear he wished to be associated only with Trump.

At first, Rubio’s strategy appeared to be to rehash his stump speech insinuating that President Obama is deliberately damaging America. Chris Christie, whose strategy for the debate was clearly to take out Rubio, repeatedly called attention to the senator’s canned speech and accused him of using memorized sound bits to cover up for his complete lack of executive experience. That strategy worked. The exchange became an instant classic in the history of political smackdowns, especially because, incredibly, a clearly rattled Rubio continued to use his canned speech, repeating his attack on Obama a total of four times over the first half of the debate:

That was truly staggering.

Lily, I have seen politicians come unglued before, but Rubio was spectacular - he didn't seem to have control over his own vocal cords, repeatedly doing exactly what Christie was accusing him of....

I don't know what happened with Dr Carson not going on stage as scheduled, but the candidates that just barged past him pulling faces - OMG! Jeb! - OMG, OMG! His mummy won't be pleased with that show of bad manners. Trump handled it perfectly, in contrast.

PS - why does Christie always remind me of The Sopranos?

I don't know why Dr. Carson stopped short in his tracks but it did show some strange behavior.
