Re: Hopey-changey in the UK
In my day it was rogering the maid on the kitchen table, or a quickie with the local call-girl, which were considered to be signs of a 'red-blooded male' and maybe two lines in a tabloid paper. Now it has got very nasty. LLlily wrote:Nor me - what little I do know of him. However there have been a fair number of articles about him.

The 'red blooded males' are still doing that, LL - no-one turns a hair at Boris's romantic exploits nowadays.
It's the pervy, sneaky, grubby ones that are the problem. I admit to disliking Watson for a long time, he is, IMO, a fat, greedy hypocrite who had caused great harm both to the targets of his false allegations, and to genuine abuse victims.
Because every time demonstrably false accusations are made, genuine victims are tarnished because the general public decides they're all after publicity and money. Which is not true, but that perception is caused by the fakes and attention-seekers that make false allegations.

I must say that I thought Anna Raccoon's photo for him as Billy Bunter was wonderful.
When I look at that nasty person I will only ever see Bunter.

Minister Tom Watson spent so much on a shopping spree at Marks & Spencer funded by the taxpayer that the store gave him a free pizza wheel.
A leaked receipt submitted to the parliamentary fees office shows that he was given the free gift during his £150 shopping trip.
Other leaked documents reveal that Mr Watson, a close ally of Gordon Brown, spent the maximum of £4,800 in a single year on food.

I won't even pretend to have followed this latest spat, anything involving Corbyn is getting to be as incomprehensible as anything involving forker WUMs.

Plain-suited Mr Yentob, shrivelling beside this vivid creature, could have been a junior pudding waiter next to an urn of fruit salad.
Scarlet-painted talons protruded from plaid-patterned, tipless gloves. Her multi-coloured turban rose towards the ceiling, high as a Victorian’s stovepipe hat. On her vast frontage she wore a rosette that would have put Cruft’s to shame. Her outfit was completed by cherry-coloured training shoes and earrings as long as lavatory chains.

Ex-child protection officer Peter McKelvie has resigned as an advisor to the Independent Inquiry into Child Sexual Abuse (IICSA), the inquiry says.
Mr McKelvie said he left after being told he may be required as a witness during the inquiry's investigations.
His information had led to Labour MP Tom Watson raising concerns over whether a minister had links to a past paedophile ring.
It was later reported that the police had found no evidence for such a claim....more at link.
I doubt if we will ever now know the truth about any of this - the nutcases and conspiraloons have seen to that.

Yes, and now every criminal can buy a gun in the UK as easily as buying cigarettes. but law-abiding people can't.

It's a complete myth that the UK is free of gun crime; certainly, it isn't on the scale of the US, but Brits get shot just about every day of the week. Or if guns aren't handy, knives are used, or acid thrown.

Violent criminals will use whatever they can. The difference is that at least people who can legally be armed stand a chance of saving lives of innocent people.

Re: Hopey-changey in the UK
A bombshell White House memo has revealed for the first time details of the ‘deal in blood’ forged by Tony Blair and George Bush over the Iraq War.
The sensational leak shows that Blair had given an unqualified pledge to sign up to the conflict a year before the invasion started.
It flies in the face of the Prime Minister’s public claims at the time that he was seeking a diplomatic solution to the crisis.
He told voters: ‘We’re not proposing military action’ – in direct contrast to what the secret email now reveals.
The classified document also discloses that Blair agreed to act as a glorified spin doctor for the President by presenting ‘public affairs lines’ to convince a sceptical public that Saddam had Weapons of Mass Destruction – when none existed.
In return, the President would flatter Blair’s ego and give the impression that Britain was not America’s poodle but an equal partner in the ‘special relationship’.
The visit came as part of Labour's campaign build up ahead of the General Election on May 7 which is predicted to be Britain's closest national election.
The damning memo, from Secretary of State Colin Powell to President George Bush, was written on March 28, 2002, a week before Bush’s famous summit with Blair at his Crawford ranch in Texas.
In it, Powell tells Bush that Blair ‘will be with us’ on military action. Powell assures the President: ‘The UK will follow our lead’.
The disclosure is certain to lead for calls for Sir John Chilcot to reopen his inquiry into the Iraq War if, as is believed, he has not seen the Powell memo.
A second explosive memo from the same cache also reveals how Bush used ‘spies’ in the Labour Party to help him to manipulate British public opinion in favour of the war.
