Re: Hopey-changey in the UK
http://news.sky.com/story/1581573/labour-leader-condemns-egypt-presidents-visit
Jeremy Corbyn has said the Egyptian president's visit to Downing Street threatens national security.
The Labour leader has lambasted David Cameron for inviting Abdel Fatah al Sisi to Britain, saying that it shows "contempt for human and democratic rights."
He added that talks with a leader who overthrew a democratically elected president threatened Britain's "national security".....etc.
STFU, Corbyn - rather Sisi than the Muslim Brotherhood.

Re: Hopey-changey in the UK
http://news.sky.com/story/1581693/national-grid-issues-call-for-extra-power
National Grid has asked electricity plants to ramp up supplies at short notice to keep the lights on without eating into reserves.
The network issued a notice to the power industry under a measure it is using for the first time since 2012, blaming “multiple plant break downs” for the shortage.
It comes as Britain is facing a wider squeeze on electricity margins – the level of spare power it needs to hold in the system to ensure supplies are adequate at peak times – following the closures of power stations.
The latest move saw the grid ask at 1.30pm for an additional 500MW – equivalent to one of three units in a typical power station – to be provided for the tea-time peak between 4.30pm and 6.30pm.
National Grid said: “This is part of our standard toolkit for balancing supply and demand and is not an indication there is an immediate risk of disruption to supply or blackouts.
“It indicates that we would like our power held in reserve to be higher.
“This Notification of Inadequate System Margin is a result of multiple plant break downs.”
A spokeswoman would not go into specific details about the break downs.
But she said that plants and generators would typically experience some technical problems re-connecting to the grid following shut downs for maintenance over the summer.
National Grid has insisted it has the right tools in place to cope with this winter’s energy demands – with contingency plans including mothballed plants being on standby.
But its Winter Outlook report last month said that without the measures it had put in place, spare capacity – the gap between generating capacity and peak demand – would plunge to just 1.2%.
Wind turbines and solar panels not working in this thick fog, then?

Pity they can't harness hot air....
Riot in progress in central London:
http://news.sky.com/story/1581721/chaotic-scenes-as-student-demo-turns-violent
There have been violent scenes during a protest in central London by thousands of students demanding free education and the abolition of tuition fees.
TV footage showed scuffles between police officers and a number of demonstrators, including some wearing black hoods and scarves covering their faces.
Some of the unrest took place when the protest came to a stop outside a government building that handles student grants.
A group of protesters tried to get into the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS) but were stopped by officers.
Some demonstrators let off flares and one was hurled towards police. Scotland Yard said smoke bombs and eggs were also thrown at officers.
A number of protesters managed to break through a cordon put up across a nearby road and hundreds then ran down Victoria Street, cheering and waving flags.
Dozens of officers gave chase as the marchers darted through central London.
As they ran, protesters chanted: "What do we want? Free education. When do we want it? Now."....etc.
I wish they'd get some new slogans, these ones have been around for decades.

Re: Hopey-changey in the UK
Wonder if Corbyn will have the answer to this, after all it was labour who introduced tuition fees for higher education in 1998 with Blunkett at the helm. LL

An answer from Corbyn, LL? Not likely as one of his shadow cabinet was a leading rabble-rouser:

Re: Hopey-changey in the UK
Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn also threw his support behind the protest by demanding the abolition of tuition fees in a statement read out at the rally.
Education is a gift from one generation to another
Shadow chancellor John McDonnell
Thousands of students attended the demonstration in the rain, calling for the end of fees, the return of maintenance grants and an end to student debt.
Mr McDonnell was greeted with cheers as he climbed up a small platform to address the students through a megaphone in Central London.
He said: ‘Your generation has been betrayed by this Government in increases to tuition fees, in scrapping the education maintenance allowance and cuts in education.
‘Education is a gift from one generation to another, it is not a commodity to be bought and sold.
'For generations now, one generation has handed the baton to the next.
'They have tried to ensure that the next generation has a better quality of life than the last.
‘This Government is betraying you and future generations. You need to oppose it and I'm here in solidarity with that opposition.’

As they tried to hurt police horses, I suggest water cannons and rubber bullets are used by the police next time. Or tanks.

It seems to be about this:
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-3327941/Sex-suicide-chilling-threats-scandal-engulfing-David-Cameron-s-chum-sparked-civil-war-Tory-party.html
and this:

Unusually for the Tories, it doesn't seem to involve rent boys or dead poultry. So far.
