The passengers who risked their lives to disarm a gunman on a Paris-bound train are awarded France's highest honour.

French President Francois Hollande has awarded the nation's highest honour, the Legion d'Honneur, to three US citizens and a Briton who helped overpower a gunman on a high-speed Paris-bound train.

US Air Force serviceman Spencer Stone, 23, US National Guardsman Alek Skarlatos, 22, and Sacramento State University student Anthony Sadler, 23, who are all friends, risked their lives in tackling the suspected terrorist and beating him unconscious.

Chris Norman, a 62-year-old British IT consultant who lives in France, also joined in the fight and told Sky News he feels "extremely shaken" and lucky to be alive.

The married grandfather-of-two said he helped the three Americans overpower the gunman because he thought he was "probably going to die anyway".

All four were passengers on the train and have been hailed as heroes for springing into action when they saw the gunman cocking his assault rifle.

I just saw that on the news here and am so happy for them.

Lovely to see some of the US families managed to get over at such short notice. Their mums must be sooooo proud!

Bursting, I would think, Bonny.     Spencer and Alek, in particular, were outstanding.

You can imagine their mums waving them off and saying, Have a nice holiday, and don't get into any trouble in Europe..

Seriously, I see that Americans who have woken up to this story are delighted that Hollande hasn't minced his words about the wannabee jihadists, and moved quickly to honour these men. I gather a French-American citizen is still in hospital, and Hollande will be meeting him when he has recovered a bit.

Yes, Bonny, he did and so he should.  Obama will too as he called Charlie Hebdo Islamic terrorists.

The identity of the man who first went after the terrorist is now known.  What a hero he is.

CCTV footage has emerged of a knife attack on one of the Americans who overpowered a gunman on a Paris-bound train.

Spencer Stone suffered what police described as "significant" injuries during a street brawl while out with friends in Sacramento, California.

The US airman is in a stable condition in hospital after reportedly being stabbed four times in the chest.

It is not clear whether the CCTV footage shows the moment Mr Stone was stabbed.

The incident, which took place at 12.45am (local time) on Thursday morning, is not thought to be connected to terrorism.

Sacramento Police Deputy Chief Ken Bernard said: "This is not related to what happened in France a couple of months ago.

"The assault appears to be related to a nightclub incident. It was a dispute between two groups of people."

Some reports suggest Mr Stone was protecting a female friend.

Officers sealed off a two-block area after the stabbing and interviewed a man and a woman - but no arrested have been made.

Mr Bernard said his team were hunting two Asian men in their 20s who fled in a dark Toyota Camry



I am sure the ethnicity of the attacks is just a coincidence.

It is also a 'coincidence' that that happened to Stone after this had happened in Oregon, or not?

Yes, I noticed that, Lily.

And an awful lot of people noticed the efforts certain sections of the media went to to portray the killer as white, when he is actually mixed-race like Obama.

There are a lot of rumours flying round the internet about that killer, that he was another terrorist, and that Russia warned the US about him - just as with the Boston Bombers.

As I say, it's all just rumours for now.
