BREAKING NEWS –  A gunman who opened fire at a crowded, well-known Florida night club is dead and there have been several people wounded, police said Sunday.

Orlando Police said the shooter inside the club is dead and the incident has been declared a “mass-casualty” event. It wasn’t immediately known how the shooter died, or how many people were wounded in the shooting.

Officials are expected to hold a press conference at 7 a.m.

Police reported “multiple injuries” following the shooting at Pulse Orlando, a popular gay bar and dance club. People were told to stay away from the area.

Dozens of police vehicles, including a SWAT team, swarmed the area around the club. At least two police pickup trucks were seen taking what appeared to be shooting victims to the Orlando Regional Medical Center.

The Orlando Sentinel reported that several emergency vehicles have responded to the scene, including the Orlando Fire Department’s bomb squad and hazardous materials team.

Police said via Twitter that a noise heard near the shooting site was a "controlled explosion." No other details were provided.

Pulse Orlando posted on its own Facebook page around 2 a.m.: "Everyone get out of pulse and keep running." Just before 6 a.m., the club posted an update: "As soon as we have any information we will update everyone. Please keep everyone in your prayers as we work through this tragic event. Thank you for your thoughts and love."

Police said local, state and federal agencies were investigating.

Orlando Regional Medical Center said in a statement it is on lockdown after receiving several gunshot victims and is only allowing essential workers into his hospital.

Arnold Palmer Hospital and Winnie Palmer Hospital have been placed on lockdown.

America is just waking up to this. Accurate casualty numbers are unknown, as are the murderer's motives.

A local police officer has just said, on Fox, that there are some 20 dead inside in club; one of their officers shot the suspect.

They don't yet know if 'devices' found at the scene are real or not.

ETA, it wasn't this one - this one blew himself up a couple of years ago.

I admit, my first thought was that it was another drug-related incident, or someone who had been refused entry taking revenge, but it appears to be even more sinister, as there are only two groups of people that would deliberately attack a gay nightclub.

Gay and transsexual people in Iran are being forced to carry “gay” ID cards as the price of avoiding conscription and years of abuse and harassment in the armed forces.

Military service is compulsory for men once they reach 18, but the state offers a get-out clause to those who are gay and those who have undergone sex-change operations — most of which are carried out under duress from the government in an attempt to “cure” them.

To obtain an exemption, applicants must endure questioning from doctors on everything from why they show no interest in women to whether they.....paywall.

The killer in the Orlando nightclub slaughter is 29-year-old Omar Mateen. TMZ has done a records search and found he held a Florida security officer license and a state firearms license.



He's an American citizen and he has family that are not -- his parents are Afghan. Authorities say he was a terrorist and was targeting gays. They say in addition to terrorism this is a hate crime.
Authorities also believe he is part of the radical Islam movement, although they do not know if it was an organized attack or if he was a lone wolf. Authorities also believe Mateen specifically targeted a gay club.
Mateen's father told NBC News, "This has nothing to do with religion." He says his son became angry after seeing 2 men kissing a few months ago in Miami, and he speculates that could have triggered his decision to kill.
Law enforcement says Mateen was well prepared, with an assault weapon, a handgun and 2 suspicious devices.
The NYPD tells TMZ, Mateen has no association with the department, and that the shirts he was photographed in were unofficial garments that could be purchased at any store.
50 people were murdered and another 53 injured inside Pulse nightclub in Orlando. It's the biggest slaughter at the hands of a gunman in American history.
Take a look at the pic below ... it's a police helmet with a bullet hole. The helmet saved the officer's life, although he suffered facial injuries.



Police descended on Mateen's home to search shortly after the massacre.

Look at the atrocities they're committing all over the world, convinced their moon god is going to reward them! If it hadn't been gays, it would have been some other group he decided had 'offended' Allah - women at the beach or something.

Ex-wife of suspected Orlando shooter: ‘He beat me’

The ex-wife of the 29-year-old man suspected of killing 50 people in a Orlando nightclub early Sunday said that he was violent and mentally unstable and beat her repeatedly while they were married.

The ex-wife said she met Omar Mateen online about eight years ago and decided to move to Florida and marry him.

At first, the marriage was normal, she said, but then he became abusive.

“He was not a stable person,” said the ex-wife, who spoke on the condition of anonymity because she feared for her safety in the wake of the mass shooting. “He beat me. He would just come home and start beating me up because the laundry wasn’t finished or something like that.”...etc.

Why is she surprised? She's a woman - he's allowed to beat her, according to his moon god.

Bonny, it is possible to hear absolute horror stories from women like that. They really do tend to treat women as chattels and sometimes worse. 

It is really sad sometimes.  I've heard some dreadful things while I was living over there....
