Parliaments votes to cut benefits for migrants and to issue residence permits more easily
By Hungary Matters
Lawmakers passed a package of amendments that will reduce social benefits for migrants, making them eligible for “only some types of benefits that Hungarian citizens are entitled to”. The amendment restricts migrants’ stay in reception centres to just one month, from the current two. Further, the new law makes it legal to detain migrants who may later be sent back to other countries from Hungary under the Dublin III rules. Lawmakers also tightened the rules for applying for a residence permit as a significant number of citizens from developing countries had been “found to be abusing the application system in a way that later prevents authorities from expelling them”. Parliament also voted to make it easier for the state to issue residence permits “out of national economic interests”. The package was approved with 113 votes in favour, 40 against and 21 abstentions.

Gov’t spokesperson: rejecting migrant quota does not mean no to EU
By Hungary Matters May 13th, 2016
Government spokesperson Zoltán Kovács has dismissed “as nonsense” the idea that any rejection of the European Union’s planned mandatory migrant quotas in a forthcoming Hungarian referendum would be a vote against the European Union. This charge is raised whenever Hungary criticises some aspects of the EU’s system and approach to certain issues, he said. “A difference in opinion, however, does not mean that we are against something,” he said. It is a common interest that a well-functioning, efficient and strong EU should meet the economic, social and demographic challenges it faces, he added. Kovács said the government and a “majority of Hungarians” oppose the planned mandatory resettlement of migrants to the country. The referendum scheduled for September or October will “enable the government and the prime minister to put forward a clear position which may serve as encouragement to several other member states”, he said.

Hungary: Bill Clinton comments about dictatorship offensive
Europe May 17, 2016
BUDAPEST, Hungary (AP) — Hungary's foreign minister says Bill Clinton's comments about Hungary and Poland wanting "authoritarian dictatorship" are offensive and unacceptable. Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto said in a statement Tuesday that "no one, not even Bill Clinton, can allow himself to offend the Hungarian people in this way."
Szijjarto said Hungarians chose their government in democratic elections, even if their pick doesn't appeal to Clinton. Clinton said last week during a speech in New Jersey in support of wife Hillary's presidential campaign that although the two eastern European countries "would not be free" without the efforts of the U.S., they had decided "democracy is too much trouble" and "want (Russian President Vladimir) Putin-like leadership."
Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban has been criticized before by the Clintons for perceived authoritarianism.

Police giving huge fines to refugees for minor traffic offenses
By All Hungary News
Special police units have been handing out large fines to refugees in the Western Hungarian town of Körmend since false allegations were made that the residents of the town’s refugee camp harassed members of the local female handball team a couple of weeks ago.
Even though the Vas County police chief himself confirmed that the local police has had no reason to take action against any refugees in Körmend, the government sent over special police units in big numbers to the town. These units are constantly at the heels of the refugees, and hand out huge fines to them for minor offenses. As the blog of the Hungarian Helsinki Committee human rights NGO reports, one Afghan person got the biggest possible fine of HUF 50,000 for not using the pedestrian crossing on his way to Tesco.
Reports of journalists and the NGO both confirm that the police’s actions aim to restricts the free movement of the refugees and constrain them for the area of the camp, which is an open one in theory. The Helsinki Committee also notes that they experienced very similar procedures in the neighborhood of the refugee camp outside Debrecen about three years ago. The NGO states that both cases serve political purposes. In Debrecen it was the local council led by present Fidesz parliamentary group leader Lajos Kósa, which ordered the police actions, while this time the government wants to raise sentiments in favor of its campaign against compulsory migrant quotas.

White House scoffs as Hungary says US wants to fill Europe with Muslim migrants
By All Hungary News
President Barack Obama and the United States favor illegal migration in Europe because they want to fill it up with Muslims, the chief of staff of Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban said Thursday. Janos Lazar also described Hungarian-born American financier George Soros as a standard-bearer for Obama’s immigration policies for Europe and said “certain American groups” want Europe to be “diluted … so Europe and America can cooperate without restraint.” White House spokesman Josh Earnest said he was unaware of Lazar’s comments, but added: “I’m not sure they’re worthy of a response.”

Unfortunately, IMO, there is a grain of truth in it, LL. Mass immigration makes labour cheaper, and the population easier to control - in theory. It suits globalists down to the ground because it means $$$$$$ for them - the US churches are making mega-bucks out of it.
However, they forgot to allow for the indigenous population not actually wanting to be forced into 'multi-kulti'.

The Latest: Hungary to open 3rd passage on Serbia border
GENEVA (AP) — Europe's response to the migrant crisis.
Hungary says it will soon open a third transit zone on its border with Serbia where refugees can apply for asylum.
Nearly 400,000 refugees passed through Hungary last year on their way to richer EU destinations. The flow was slowed greatly by Hungary's construction of razor-wire fences on its borders with Serbia and Croatia.
May 27, 2016
Gyorgy Bakondi, homeland security adviser to Prime Minister Gyorgy Bakondi, said Friday that the new transit zone is planned to be set up in the village of Asotthalom. Asotthalom Mayor Laszlo Toroczkai, of the far-right Jobbik party, said he was "not happy" about the plan although he supports government efforts to "stop the illegal migrants."
Hundreds of migrants are already waiting at two border transit zones — at Roszke and Kelebia — as Hungary is registering just 20 to 30 asylum-seekers a day at the makeshift registry points there. The transit zones were set up late last year after Hungary greatly stemmed the flow of migrants toward Western Europe with razor-wire fences on its borders with Serbia and Croatia.
.............................................
The U.N. refugee agency is urging Serbia and Hungary to find a solution for migrants camping in dire conditions at the border between the two countries, waiting to enter the European Union.
The UNHCR Representative in Serbia Hans Schodder visited the small tent city Friday that has formed on the Serbian side of the razor-wire fence Hungary put up last year to keep the migrants away.
Hungarian authorities have let through about 20 people a day, mostly families with small children. Schodder says about 300 migrants are camping at the border without toilettes and running water, relying on aid groups for food and drinks.
He has rejected comparisons to the now-dismantled camp at the Greece-Macedonia border where thousands were stuck for months after Balkan route closed in March.

Re: Hungary is new hot spot on migrant route into EU - Part 2
The massive EU operation to rescue migrants has effectively become a ferry service across the Mediterranean, it emerged yesterday.
Smugglers are setting off from the North African coast in boats with only enough fuel to get them into international waters.
They then telephone rescuers asking for help, knowing they will be picked up by EU ships that will take them the rest of the way to Italy.
The mission, in which the Royal Navy has destroyed just 27 smuggler boats in almost a year of involvement, has been described as a ‘magnet to migrants’.
Whitehall officials yesterday refused to make public the cost of our contribution to the EU operation called Operation Sophia.

The Latest: Hungary stops Austria-bound van with 25 migrants
Hungarian police say they have detained five Ukrainians suspected of human trafficking for transporting 25 migrants from Pakistan and Afghanistan toward Austria.
The migrants were in one of two vans with Lithuanian license plates stopped by police early Thursday on a road near the western city of Szombathely, about 15 kilometers (9 miles) from the Austrian border.
In another case, police said a 49-year-old Austrian man was taken into custody near the northern city of Tata after he was stopped with six Syrians, including two minors, in his car. The Syrians had registered with Hungarian authorities and requested asylum but did not have the documents needed to leave the country.
Hungary registered over 17,500 asylum requests this year by mid-May, but most of the asylum-seekers leave for western Europe before their cases are decided.

The Latest: UN urges probe after Syrian drowns in Hungary
ATHENS (AP) — The Latest on Europe's migration crisis. (all times local): 9:20 p.m. The UN refugee agency is urging authorities to investigate the death of a 22-year-old Syrian man reported to have drowned while trying to cross a river from Serbia to Hungary.
June 04, 2016
The UNHCR said Saturday that others in the group claimed they were pushed back into the Tisza River from Hungary. The agency is also concerned about allegations of the abuse of asylum-seekers by Hungarian officials, including excessive use of force.
Hungarian police rescued an Iraqi family, including three children, from the river Wednesday and said they had alerted their Serbian counterparts about the man in the river who was missing. His body was found Friday.
The UNHCR said Hungarian policies, including razor-wire fences on its borders with Serbia and Croatia, "leave people with little choice but to put their lives in the hands of ruthless smugglers, often with tragic consequences."

What is there to investigate? They're lucky they weren't shot on sight - as used to happen to people who forced their way into other countries illegally.
The best thing thing these hand-wringers could do to save lives is to stop encouraging illegal immigrants to think they are entitled to march into Europe, and that 'everyone' wants them.

Migrants linked to 69,000 would-be or actual crimes in Germany in first three months of 2016: police
Migrants in Germany committed or tried to commit some 69,000 crimes in the first quarter of 2016, according to a police report that could raise unease, especially among anti-immigrant groups, about Chancellor Angela Merkel's liberal migrant policy.
There was a record influx of more than a million migrants into Germany last year and concerns are now widespread about how Europe's largest economy will manage to integrate them and ensure security.
The report from the BKA federal police showed that migrants from northern Africa, Georgia and Serbia were disproportionately represented among the suspects.
Absolute numbers of crimes committed by Syrians, Afghans and Iraqis - the three biggest groups of asylum seekers in Germany - were high but given the proportion of migrants that they account for, their involvement in crimes was "clearly disproportionately low", the report said.
It gave no breakdown of the number of actual crimes and of would-be crimes, nor did it state what percentage the 69,000 figure represented with respect to the total number of crimes and would-be crimes committed in the first three months of 2016.
The report stated that the vast majority of migrants did not commit any crimes.
It is the first time the BKA has published a report on crimes committed by migrants containing data from all of Germany's 16 states, so there is no comparable data.
The report showed that 29.2 percent of the crimes migrants committed or tried to commit in the first quarter were thefts, 28.3 percent were property or forgery offences and 23 percent offences such as bodily harm, robbery and unlawful detention.
Drug-related offences accounted for 6.6 percent and sex crimes accounted for 1.1 percent.
In Cologne at New Year, hundreds of women said they were groped, assaulted and robbed, with police saying the suspects were mainly of North African and Arab appearance. Prosecutors said last week three Pakistani men seeking asylum in Germany were under investigation after dozens of women said they were sexually harassed at a music festival.
The number of crimes committed by migrants declined by more than 18 percent between January and March, however, according to the report.
