Some nutter in a hate group is convinced it's got it all sussed:
Irene Gouldsmith I'm guessing that pair are holding the government to ransom because they have something on them that would blow them out of the water

Really? And what normally happens to people who hold governments to ransom? Especially when they hold the governments, police, legal system and media of several nations to ransom?
Don't be so bloody stupid! And take off the tinfoil hat - it's cutting off blood circulation to your brain!

Re: Hunt for Madeleine
Myths, on the subject of that tinfoil-hatter:
http://www.stopthemyths.info/viewtopic.php?f=149&t=6589&start=1225
1) we are now on the third government since Madeleine disappeared, so according to her they must regulary find out explosive secrets about the Tories, labour, and lib dems! As you do as a part time gp then stay at home mum and hospital doctor based in Leicestershire.
2) if they have so much power why did they even publicise Madeleine, why not use this power to keep it secret and get a few million from the government? Why not use this power to shut the trolls up?
3) in the last few years we have seen mps put on prison for expenses fraud, MPs raided by police, MPs accused of various sexual indiscretions, MPs accused of selling their services and accepting dodgy donations and on top of that we are seeing Blair dragged through it over Iraq. Whst exactly could the McCann's, an ordinary middle class couple from working class backgrounds, have found out that beats any of that? Don't tell me, they found out they really are lizards? Perhaps Kate's hairdressers sisters dog's vet advised on how to disguise lizards as humans?
Quite.

Good the boy was found, but the circumstances are a bit different, as he was with his father.
However, the business of the documentation is interesting - I seem to recall this has happened before with missing people?

Re: Hunt for Madeleine
However, detectives may be encouraged as Julian was missing for even longer than Maddie but still was found alive.
Julian, who is now 18 years old, was found after he struggled to apply for universities after his Social Security number was suddenly rejected.
When he approached a counsellor for help, his school realised that he was listed as a missing child by the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC).
That, IMO, is the important part.

Yes, this is the important bit. His father managed to keep him below the radar for thirteen years, even through his earlier schooling, by changing his name. Even through any doctors and dentists visits.
If a family has got Madeleine then changing a child's name obviously isn't that difficult. And false passports aren't that difficult to come by either.

False passports are quite easy, I understand, Sabot. They cost a lot but there are people desperate to pay it.

A fake Syrian one, so you pretend to be a 'refugee', seems to be about two grand, Lily.
On Monday an undercover Telegraph reporter required just one phone call to a number listed on the site to arrange passage from Turkey to Greece, with a fake Syrian passport included, for £2,000 all-in.

Re: Hunt for Madeleine
Remember the story Pedro posted in News yesterday, Lily?
http://www.cmjornal.xl.pt/nacional/portugal/detalhe/ajuda_a_traficar_crianca.html
Woman helps child trafficking
SEF stopped Angolan of 43 in Amadora.
The Foreigners and Borders Service (SEF) arrested on Wednesday an Angolan, 43, on suspicion of co-authorship of a child trafficking crime.
In a statement, the SEF said that the detained is from the family of a woman who was caught in September at the border post of Lisbon airport. the suspect also from Angola, came to Luanda with a girl of 6 years. The woman claimed to be mother of the child and wanted to come to France with her.
The girl had false passport and so was denied entry on national soil. Both returned to Angola and the DIAP began investigating. Wednesday, after searches in Amadora, the SEF held the woman who from Portugal helped smuggle the minor since the Angolan capital. the detained is also suspected of other cases.
It isn't hard to get hold of false documents.
