Masked marchers beat immigrants in Stockholm

A gang of up to a hundred black-clad masked men marched in central Stockholm on Friday evening, singling out and beating up immigrants, and handing out leaflets threatening further violent attacks against unaccompanied refugee youth.

The march, the most extreme reaction seen so far to the murder on Monday of social worker Alexandra Mezher worker by a Somali refugee, has been linked to football gangs and far-right groups.

According to Aftonbladet newspaper, the men were distributing leaflets with the slogan “It’s enough now!” which threatened to give “the North African street children who are roaming around” the “punishment they deserve.”

“They were scattering leaflets which had the intention to incite people to carry out crimes,” Stockholm police confirmed its website.

By 9pm, three people had been arrested, one for punching a plain-clothes policeman, and another for carrying brass knuckledusters, although all three were released by Saturday morning.

“We have been able to link them to hooligan gangs for Stockholm football teams,” Fredrik Nylén from the Stockholm Police told Aftonbladet newspaper.


A witness told the newspaper that he had seen a group of the men beating people who appeared to have a foreign background in the middle of Stockholm’s busy central Sergelstorg square....more at link.

There's nothing odd or unpredictable about what is starting to happen, Lily. Throughout history, when governments of any kind fail in their most basic duty - the protection of their own citizens - said citizens start doing it themselves, and it doesn't take long for chaos to follow.

Germany's Finance Minister Wolfgang Schäuble had last week floated the idea of introducing a tax on petrol in Europe to help cover the costs of tackling the continent's worst migration crisis since World War II.

"A fuel tax, at a national or European level, could be a possible source of financing, especially if you take into account petrol prices are at a historical low," Valdis Dombrovskis told the magazine.

"I agree with Mr Schäuble, we need fresh ideas in Europe to deal with the refugee crisis," said Dombrovskis, who is also the European Commission's vice president.

Schäuble's suggestion triggered a welter of criticism, including from within the ranks of his CDU conservative party....etc.

An incendiary device has been found on a train track in northeast Germany, police say, adding that the bomb was likely meant to disrupt train traffic. A far-left website has claimed responsibility. (more)

The device was found on Monday on the Intercity-Express (ICE) line that runs between the capital Berlin and the city of Hannover. It was located inside a cable duct in Dallgow-Döberitz, which is a municipality in the state of Brandenburg.

German Federal Police said the unexploded device was discovered after postings on a website associated with the far-left, but authorities provided no further details. Train services between Berlin and Hannover were disrupted as police investigated the device.

An online posting that claimed responsibility for the attempted attack said it wanted to cause a short-circuit to disrupt train services. The posting demanded increased aid and accommodation for refugees and called for acts of sabotage against the military.

German railways have in the past also been targeted with incendiary devices in attempts to halt train services.
