The Muslim terrorist who killed at least 49 people in an Orlando nightclub early Sunday was an angry loner who beat his ex-wife, alienated co-workers and made at least two mysterious trips to Saudi Arabia, according to people who knew him and law enforcement authorities who are now piecing together his descent into radical Islam.

FBI Director James Comey on Monday said that three phone calls between Omar Mateen and a 911 operator while Mateen was holed up in a club bathroom with hostages may provide insight into his radicalization. During those calls, Comey said, Mateen "made clear his support for" ISIS and pledged loyalty to the terror group's leader.

However, Mateen also "claimed solidarity" with the Boston Marathon bombers -- who learned how to make their pressure cooker bomb from an Al Qaeda-affiliated magazine -- and a man who blew himself up in Syria during an operation for Al-Nusra Front, leading Comey to say it was "unclear which terror group he aspired to support."

Another potential avenue of investigation is a pair of trips Mateen, 29, took to Saudi Arabia in March 2011 and March 2012 for umrah, a non-mandatory visit to Mecca for Muslims. Saudi Arabia's Interior Ministry spokesman confirmed the trips to The Associated Press in a text message Monday. Umrah can be performed at any time of the year.....more at link.

His first wife, who was born in Uzbekistan and met Mateen on the Internet, told The Washington Post that he frequently beat her after their 2009 marriage. They reportedly divorced in 2011.

“He would just come home and start beating me up because the laundry wasn’t finished or something like that,” Sitora Yusifiy said.

Mateen was remarried at least once, to Noor Zahi Salman, after his divorce from Yusifiy. He had a 3-year-old son.

So, where are they?

Not with him?

Sources close to the investigation named the suspect as 25-year-old Larossi Abballa, adding that he had been sentenced in 2013 for links to a jihadist network that sent recruits to Pakistan

The father of the man who shot dead 49 people at an Orlando nightclub has told Sky News the attack could have been prevented if the club had better security.

Seddique Mateen said he shares the grief of the victims' families, and that religion had nothing to do with his son's actions.

But he said the nightclub must share responsibility for the worst mass shooting in US history, in which 49 people were killed and 53 others injured.

Utterly astounding.

When asked about an incident a few years ago, which has been widely reported, where Omar Mateen had shown anger after seeing two men kissing each other, Mr Mateen said: "It was a normal reaction (to the kissing), but why should I get mad?

"I never got mad (at the kissing) because it's a free country, everyone has his own choice to do what the law allows him, what the country allows him."

The apple didn't fall far from that tree. But just remember, folks, it's Nothing To Do With Islam....

And people wonder how Trump became the GOP candidate.

Apparently, Mateen had gone to the gay club a few times before.  He would sit drinking alone in a corner.  People told MSNBC this morning.  

As it happens, the nephew of some friends of mine was going to go that evening but had to work instead.  He lost 5 friends.

Poor man - he must be heartbroken. I hope he has people to support him, it will be a terrible thing to even accept that something so horrible could happen to innocent young people.

Poor soul, I cannot imagine what he is going through. I saw one of the survivors being interviewed - he'd been shot a few times, but obviously, not fatally, and I was so, so sorry for him, he was so distraught.

IMO, the survivors are going to need an awful lot of help in the years ahead.

This morning they had raised approx 1.5 million dollars on gofundme.  Very impressive as they only started it several hours ago.  

The target is 5 million.

The wife of the Orlando nightclub shooter knew of her husband's deadly plans and did nothing to stop him, a federal law enforcement source confirmed to Fox News.

FBI agents have interviewed Omar Mateen's wife, Noor Salman, in the days since Sunday's massacre that killed 49 and wounded 53 more. Mateen died in a shootout with police early Sunday morning.

Salman said Mateen shared his plans with her to carry out an attack and Mateen may have even called her from the gay club Pulse during the slaughter, the source said. Salman also confirmed details of Mateen's gun purchases prior to the assault.

A separate source told Fox News that Salman was cooperating with investigators and had shared information about her husband's violent aspirations.

Salman is likely to be arrested, a source told Fox News.....etc.

If she knew, and did nothing, then I hope she is charged with involvement in mass murder, or whatever the legal term is.

If she knew, all those people are dead because she did nothing.

It doesn't seem to make any sense at all does it?
