Re: The Chilcott Report
I disliked him the moment I saw him and my negativity hasn't changed. Watched him earlier, oh the slight huskiness in the voice, the short hesitations, the 'candid' glances at the camera (ie those watching on their TVs), the non-admissions of guilt - all a caculated and rehearsed performance. Sorry, didn't fool me for one minute. LL

I haven't seen that yet, LL, which is probably just as well, for my blood pressure.

Just watching a clip now, LL.
He's lying again, he's not sorry for what happened because of him, he's only sorry he's been found out.
I hope he's found in a muddy field, clutching a butterknife.

I watched/listened to the whole of it and was totally repulsed by his blatant hypocrisy. Oh, what is this comment of yours re a muddy field and a butterknife? LLbb1 wrote:Just watching a clip now, LL.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/David_Kelly_(weapons_expert)
Death[edit]
On the morning of 17 July 2003, Kelly was working as usual at home in Oxfordshire. Media coverage of his public appearance two days before had led many of his friends to send him supportive emails, to which he was responding. One of the emails he sent that day was to New York Times journalist Judith Miller,[20] who had used Kelly as a source in a book on bioterrorism and to whom Kelly had mentioned "many dark actors playing games."[21][22] He also received an email from his superiors at the Ministry of Defence asking for more details of his contacts with journalists.
Just before 3 pm Kelly's superior, Wing Commander Clark, called him at home and spoke to him for 6-7 minutes. Clark called again at about 3:20 pm; the call was answered by Mrs Kelly who said that Kelly had gone out for a walk as he did every day. He appears to have gone directly to an area of woodlands known as Harrowdown Hill about a mile away from his home where he ingested up to 29 tablets of painkillers, co-proxamol, an analgesic drug and to have then cut his left wrist with a knife he had owned since his youth.[23] His wife reported him missing shortly after midnight that night, and he was found early the next morning.[24] Questioned on a flight to Hong Kong that day, Blair denied that anyone had been authorised to leak Kelly's identity.[25]

Re: The Chilcott Report
A report in April 2003 included material from the source suggesting that they had seen spherical glass containers filled with chemical weapons agents.
However, the report did not include the caveat from officials who pointed out that 'the source’s description of the device and its spherical glass contents was “remarkably similar to the fictional chemical weapon portrayed in the film The Rock”.'
The chairman of the Joint Intelligence Committee (JIC), John Scarlett, was apparently not told about the potential problems with the source

Re: The Chilcott Report
If Ed Milliband never, ever does anything useful in his life in the years to come, statues should be erected to him for saving Syria from the same fate as Iraq.
Yes, Syria's in a mess, but their legal government has managed to hang on, schools, hospitals, shops, etc., are still functioning in government areas - no thanks to Western-backed terrorists. And never, ever forget this:

I said, “Are we still going to invade Iraq?” “Yes, Sir,” he said, “but it’s worse than that.” I said, “How do you mean?” He held up this piece of paper. He said, “I just got this memo today or yesterday from the office of the Secretary of Defense upstairs. It’s a… five-year plan. We’re going to take down seven countries in five years. We’re going to start with Iraq, then Syria, Lebanon, then Libya, Somalia, Sudan, we’re going to come back and get Iran in five years. I said, “Is that classified, that paper?” He said, “Yes Sir.” I said, “Well, don’t show it to me, because I want to be able to talk about it

Pure evil. IMO, his taxpayer-funded security should be withdrawn - he can look in his own pockets, if he needs protected from the public.

The US needs its own Chilcot report
Tony Blair wasn’t the principal architect of this catastrophic war. The US should investigate George W Bush for his decision to invade Iraq

Re: The Chilcott Report
I haven't been watching US news channels, LL, but from what I can see online, Chilcott is getting very little coverage in the US.
I will be interested to see Lily's take on this. Purely as a personal opinion, Brits are well used (tragically) to the concept of Lions led by donkeys, but I don't know if Americans are ready to face the fact that their Commander in Chief fouled up so horribly?
Trump's alluded to the removal of Saddam being a bad move, but everyone else is walking on eggshells over it.

Re: The Chilcott Report
There has been little mention of it here, well as far as I know. The big issue is the FBI 's James Comer's dreadful conclusion of Hillary's e-mail debacle. People here are asking if we have turned into a Banana Republic.
As far as I am concerned Bush had his best buddy Blair in his back pocket. Blair did not act alone.
If anything is going to be done I think it will have to wait a while. Sadly.

Re: The Chilcott Report
Thanks, Lily. Yes, the Hillary business will naturally be of greater interest in the US.
I doubt if it has passed Trump by, though, as it goes to the heart of the corruption in the GOP establishment?

John Prescott reveals his guilt at the 'illegal' Iraq War will haunt him for the rest of his life
I don't know how the wounds from Iraq can even begin to heal without Blair facing some kind of penalty, be it financial, legal, via Parliament.
Mind you, it probably galls him that he will never be 'Lord Blair'.
