I honestly don't know, Lily - I suspect it wasn't, in Blair's case. Arrogance, maybe? He saw himself as a Churchill or Thatcher, defeating tyranny and 'liberating' grateful nations - forgetting that HE was the aggressor? So convinced himself that the lies he was telling were actually truth?
Worth remembering that, only a couple of weeks ago, his ego was so swollen, he was proposing himself as a Brexit negotiator - knowing the Chilcott report was coming.
