Ukip leader Diane James has quit the role after just 18 days.

Ms James said on Tuesday night that she does not "have sufficient authority, nor the full support" of Ukip MEPs and officers to reform party.

There is now speculation that Farage may have been UKIP leader all along because of some paperwork foul-up....

Nigel Farage has told Sky News he assumes he is still UKIP leader after Diane James quit the job after just 18 days in charge.

But even as he serves as acting leader, the MEP ruled out re-applying on a permanent basis for what he called a "rotten job".

"Diane James did not become officially, legally the leader of UKIP, so my name is still there so I will continue as the acting leader of UKIP whilst we re-do the election process," Mr Farage said.

"I've done my bit, it's a pretty rotten job being leader of any political party and I think being leader of UKIP is probably more rotten than all the others.



"It is time for someone else to do the job."....etc.

It's even stranger when you realise that actually, Nige is just about the world's most successful politician. He acheived exactly what he set out to do when he entered politics, and his 'side' won the day......
