A body recovered by search teams in woodland has been formally identified as Kate Prout who was murdered by her husband four years ago.

Gloucestershire Police have said the remains found at Redhill Farm in Redmarley on Thursday were identified through dental records.
"We've been like prisoners, it's been like a prison sentence for us hanging over our heads and our lives", said Kate's brother Richard Wakefield.
"But now that relief has come, so hopefully when we get Kate buried we can bury her and all move on."
Kate Prout disappeared on November 5, 2007, after arguments with Adrian Prout, 49, over demands for an increased divorce settlement.
Prout was convicted of the 55-year-old's murder last year despite no body being found.
He has always protested his innocence until he failed a lie detector test in prison and confessed to his fiancee last week.
Mr Wakefield, 61, said: "We never had any doubt that Adrian killed her. We knew straight away when she was gone that something was wrong. We didn't know how long it would take to bring her back to us, if at all."
Prout was brought back to the farm to show detectives where he buried Kate, but he was unable to give them the exact location so the search took four days.
Mr Wakefield added: "We were shocked to get the news last week and at first weren't certain it was the truth due to the lies he'd told in the past."
Kate's sister-in-law, 57-year-old Linda Wakefield, said: "We can move on as a whole family.
"We'll never forget Kate and this has been such a traumatic event in our lives, but hopefully because we can get her back and say goodbye properly it will just close the book."

Human remains have been found on the former farm of a millionaire who confessed to murdering his wife, police said today.

Officers have been searching for the body of Kate Prout at the farm in Redmarley, Gloucestershire, for four days after Adrian Prout confessed to her murder in prison last week.

Prout, 49, had previously maintained that his wife disappeared in November 2007, but was convicted of her murder last year and is currently serving a life sentence.

The discovery was made at 1pm today.

Det Supt Simon Atkinson of Gloucestershire Constabulary, who has been leading the search, said: “We have found human remains close to the location Adrian Prout identified as the place he buried his wife.

“No formal identification has taken place however we have informed Kate’s family of recent developments.

“I hope this will mark the final chapter of these harrowing events for Kate’s family.”

The forensic search and recovery specialist arrived by helicopter on day three of the search, to survey the scene where Mrs Prout's former husband Adrian confessed he buried her in November 2007.

And as darkness fell, police brought in floodlights to extend the time the dogs from South Yorkshire police can work in Cobhill Wood.

They are trained to locate decomposed bodies, while the body deposition expert from Surrey-based Specialist Group International is helping the 15-strong team including a forensic archaeologist to pinpoint her remains.

A digger arrived yesterday afternoon though that was not expected to be used until this morning.

On Tuesday the search area was widened beyond the 250 square metres inside the pheasant enclosure in the wood which Prout used to run shoots until he was jailed for life.

The businessman had always denied murdering Mrs Prout but dramatically confessed in prison and showed police where he buried her on Friday.

He failed a lie detector test, which his fiance Debbie Garlick had pressed for.

It is understood officers have been told he strangled her during a row in a shooting lodge on November 5, before wrapping her body up and burying her.

The excavation work, which started on Monday, is taking place in dense woodland next to the 276-acre farm and police have cordoned off the area and six public rights of way.

Prout was jailed for life at Bristol Crown Court in February 2010 and told to serve a minimum of 18 years after being found guilty of murder.

He had denied killing his wife, maintaining that she had disappeared in November 2007.

Despite no body, nor significant forensic evidence being found, he was convicted on the strength of a mass of circumstantial evidence including Mrs Prout's diary detailing violent rows and a battle over the farm. But the trial judge said Prout must have killed her.

If that turns out to be correct, then the carpet-woofing was a Godsend to Prout; it sent the police off in totally the wrong direction.

We don't know how accurate these reports are yet, but if they are - then the Wonderdog told a huge, great porky that messed up the investigation.

The shoot was formally part of Madresfiled estate, the ancestral estate of the Lygon family. It has some splendid contours and tall mature trees on the banks towards which the birds are driven. The centre of the shoot is a lovely warm wood which holds the birds exceptionally well all season.

There is a custom built shooting lodge where we meet and take lunch, bags are spread fairly evenly during the season and around 150 per day until christmas and around 100 plus afterwards. A bird costs 28 pounds and full hospitality is included. Testing birds in lovely surroundings, viewing welcome.

Don't forget stealing food. Mine can swivel on one back leg and hook a front paw at half a metre, when his chin barely comes up to the level of the kitchen work top. I have incredible pooing dogs too! They don't like getting wet either (it's a feature of the breed which we found out about after we'd got them). So when it's pouring down and our next door neighbour is letting their supremely intelligent labrador out into the garden, we have to put on our wellies and drag our two canine brats out along the dog walk otherwise we'll be moppping up the kitchen floor. If we let them out, they just stand on the doorstep and bark till we let them back in again. Our neighbours think we're mad because we seem to walk our dogs more often when it rains than otherwise.

What on earth was the point of him woofing at the living room carpet, when Mrs Prout had been killed in the shooting lodge and buried nearby?

It would have been impressive if he had woofed there; instead, he achieved the remarkable feat of leading the investigation off in totally the wrong direction.

Because of that, it appears at present that the police got fixated on Prout's mystical pipe-laying skills, and didn't look closer at the blindingly-obvious.

Now, I wasn’t sure what that meant at that time and when I spoke to the handler, he explained to me that that was his indication that a dead body had been in that area.

This dog now indicating that a dead body had been in that room changed our thoughts entirely and we had to look more deeply into the forensic element of that house
