The lawyer Marcos Aragão Correia and Professor António Pedro Dores, accused of defaming former Inspector of Judicial Police Gonçalo Amaral, now know the decision of the Court of Faro, and the prosecutor asked for acquittal.
Leonor Cipriano's lawyer, Aragão Correia, and the president of the Association Against Exclusion for Development (ACED), Antonio Pedro Dores, are accused of defaming the former inspector, who investigated for nearly eight years the disappearance of Jane, daughter of Eleanor Cipriano.
The complaint, filed by Gonçalo Amaral, now retired, was prompted by an April 2008 document titled "Report on Torture Leonor Cipriano perpetrated by the Judicial Police," which Aragão Correia prepared for ACED and was broadcast by the association.
In 2009, Gonçalo Amaral was sentenced to eighteen months' imprisonment suspended for making false allegations in the trial of former inspectors and officials accused of torture PJ's mother Joan.
However, the former inspector considered that this report was "damaging the honor and consideration personal and professional" and therefore decided to refer Aragão Correia and President of ACED, for defamation.
The Public Ministry (MP) asks for absolution, and argues that both failed to make sense to talk about defamation, since all evidence points to the existence of torture, despite never having tasted exactly your own.
Heard as a witness in closing arguments of the trial, Leonor described the inspectors put a bag over his head, kicked around the body and hit him with a telephone card and a blunt object.
Report[/b]edly, the attacks continued after they have forced to kneel on two glass ashtrays, she said transported by the Gonçalo Amaral.
Leonor and the missing girl's uncle, João Cipriano, were convicted in November 2004 to 20 years and four months and 19 years and two months imprisonment, respectively, for murder and concealment of a corpse.
On appeal, the sentence of Leonor Cipriano was reduced to 16 years and eight months

Now now, no counting those chickens, Tony
We are still waiting to hear this....
Amazing, really, that the forkers and hounders don't seem to know about it. No wonder they get called shrooms.

the torture of Leonor Cipriano perpetrated by the portuguese police is once again confirmed;
the serious and active involvement of Goncalo de Sousa Amaral in that torture is once again confirmed;
Goncalo de Sousa Amaral was condemn to pay all the court expenses;
since the Public Prosecutor also asked for the non-guilty verdict, no more appeals are possible.

Well now, that didn't go well for Amaral, did it. Torture Confirmed, and all those Nasty Costs.
And didn't that original article say that The Glass Ashtrays were Transported by Amaral? I suppose that means he supplied them. I expect he had to buy them because I can't see a Police Station running to anything as classy as glass ashtrays. Unless they kept them in a cupboard for just such an occasion.

Re: MARCOS CORREIA, PROFESSOR DORES, CLEARED OF ALL CHARGES
A rather confusing first report in CdM:
http://www.cmjornal.xl.pt/detalhe/noticias/nacional/portugal/advogado-de-leonor-cipriano-absolvido-de-difamar-goncalo-amaral
President was also acquitted of ACED
Leonor Cipriano lawyer acquitted of slander Gonçalo Amaral
The criminal court acquitted Faro on Tuesday Aragão Correia, a lawyer for Leonor Cipriano - mother of missing girl in the Algarve in 2004 - and Professor António Pedro Dores, of defaming former Inspector of Judicial Police Gonçalo Amaral.
Aragão Correia and president of the Association Against Exclusion for Development (ACED), Antonio Pedro Dores, were accused of defaming the former inspector, who investigated for nearly eight years the disappearance of Jane, daughter of Leonor Cipriano.
In its judgment, the judge said the conditions were not met to consider even the possibility of legal order António Pedro Dores, president of ACED, who spread the "Report on Torture Leonor Cipriano perpetrated by the Judicial Police," the subject of the case raised by Gonçalo Amaral.
As for Marcos Aragão Correia, cemented his acquittal in the fulfillment of civic duty to denounce acts of torture that is required every citizen and, on the other hand, has proven that as the lawyer for Leonor Cipriano was convinced that Gonçalo Amaral was the same co-author of the acts of torture against the mother of Joan.
By having knowledge of the acts committed against Leonor Cipriano - whose existence, already the subject of independent judgment, the court did not question - through a conversation with your client, Aragão Correia became convinced of the truthfulness of the version heard, which, in the opinion the court annulled the severity of their publication.
However, based on the testimony he heard - including that of Leonor Cipriano - the court failed to establish that Gonçalo Amaral has witnessed acts of torture or even coordinate the team that practiced.
----------------
I am not going to even attempt to unravel that, Portuguese law is a strange beast.
Amaral would be as well writing a large cheque to the Find Madeleine fund now, as would Bennett.
If he has any money left after paying for this little exercise in intimidation.

Just wait till the ramifications of this sink in in haterworld, J-P. IMO, that is any chance Amaral and Bennett ever had gone.
A court in his own country says he HAS no honour, and hands their bill to him? He and Bennett would be well advised to settle now.

Got it!
However, based on the testimony he heard - including that of Leonor Cipriano - the court failed to establish that Gonçalo Amaral has witnessed acts of torture or even coordinate the team that practiced.
Because that is outside that particular court's remit, I suspect, further charges will have to be laid?
Incidentally, when is he due in court for his alleged assault on Leandro Silva?

I think they've had it, personally, Tony, which was why this verdict was so important. And I shudder to think what the bill for this is going to be - remember, all that carry on because Amaral was playing silly s*ds? That will all have ratcheted up the final bill.
How on earth does Amaral propose to pay that?
I think he's finished. The ground is now clear for the PJ to deal with him, Cristovao and the others involved in the Cipriano scandal, so how on earth does he propose to defend himself in the libel case?
I am a Man of Honour and I have Aces up my Sleeve - it's just not going to work, is it? A Portuguese court has just ruled that he HAS no honour. And handed him the bill.

My friends, this was taken from Jornal de Notícias:

Court acquits accused of defaming Gonçalo Amaral
The criminal court acquitted him of Faro, this Tuesday Aragão Correia, a lawyer for Leonor Cipriano - mother of missing girl in the Algarve in 2004 - and Professor António Pedro Dores, of defaming former Inspector of Judicial Police Gonçalo Amaral.
Aragão Correia and president of the Association Against Exclusion for Development (ACED), Antonio Pedro Dores, were accused of defaming the former inspector, who investigated for nearly eight years the disappearance of Jane, daughter of Leonor Cipriano.
In its judgment, the judge said the conditions were not met to consider even the possibility of legal order António Pedro Dores, president of ACED, who spread the "Report on Torture Leonor Cipriano perpetrated by the Judicial Police," the object of the process raised by Gonçalo Amaral.
By having knowledge of the acts committed against Leonor Cipriano - whose existence, as an autonomous object of judgment, the court did not question - through a conversation with your client, Aragão Correia became convinced of the veracity of the version heard, which, in the opinion of the court annulled the severity of their publication.
However, based on the testimony he heard - including that of Leonor Cipriano - the court failed to establish that Gonçalo Amaral has witnessed acts of torture or even coordinate the team that practiced.
On the other hand, claimed that Aragão Correia knew someone publicly attributed those acts could constitute matters "offending the honor and dignity," though it has done so in the belief that Eleanor had told the truth.
In 2009, Gonçalo Amaral was sentenced to eighteen months' imprisonment suspended for making false allegations in the trial of former agents and inspectors of the PJ, accused of torture to his mother Joan.
The former inspector considered that the report of the ACED was "damaging the honor and consideration personal and professional" and has decided to lodge a complaint for defamation against Aragão Correia and president of the association.
The Public Ministry (MP) asked for the acquittal of both, claiming that no longer makes sense to talk about defamation, since all the evidence pointed to the existence of torture, despite never having tasted exactly your own.
Heard as a witness in closing arguments of the trial, Leonor described the inspectors put a bag over his head, kicked around the body and hit him with a telephone card and a blunt object.
Reportedly, the attacks continued after they have forced to kneel on two glass ashtrays that she said would have been transported by the Gonçalo Amaral.
Leonor and the missing girl's uncle, João Cipriano, were convicted in November 2004 to 20 years and four months and 19 years and two months imprisonment, respectively, for murder and concealment of a corpse.
On appeal, the sentence of Leonor Cipriano was reduced to 16 years and eight months.
