I don't think things would have got as bad as this even under Bush, Lily - at least he and Putin had a working relationship. I can't see Bush EVER pulling a stupid stunt involving an American ambassador handing out cookies to a shrieking mob of neo-nazis.

That, IMO, was the catalyst for all this, because it put the US seal of approval on the rioters.

The Western media is now actively censoring material from eastern Ukraine. They are not reporting this:

http://rt.com/news/161592-donetsk-truck-grenade-killed/

Don't believe the words? Then look at the video and pics.

Footage by LifeNews shows a truck full of dead bodies. Representatives of the self-defense squads say they cannot yet give the names of those killed; the process of identification has only just began.

“They were wounded. The car was driving them from a battlefield,” a masked representative of the self-defense forces in Donetsk told LifeNews. “First snipers shot the driver, then they fired point-blank at the rest from a shoulder-launcher. The survivors were then gunned down by Right Sector militants - no one in the truck survived.”

Reuters reported two wrecked and blood-covered Kamaz trucks in Donetsk – one of them on the airport road.

Also overnight, self-defense forces reported that Ukrainian military opened fire at an ambulance transporting two injured from the Donetsk airport. The doctors inside the ambulance were unharmed, deputy of Donbass’ self-defense forces, Sergey Tsypakov, told RIA Novosti. The two wounded remain in the ambulance and it is not possible to evacuate them at this point, he added.

It's one thing ignoring rt, it's another matter entirely when Reuters reports are being ignored.

It looks like the Kiev forces are now committing war crimes - must take them back to their glory days in the 14th Waffen Grenadier Division of the SS (1st Ukrainian).

The Mail has a semi-reasonable report:

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2640336/At-30-pro-Russian-rebels-killed-Donetsk-airport-new-president-vows-end-anti-terrorist-operation-hours.html

And they are giving some coverage to the casualties of the Kiev forces' artillery:

War in Ukraine - Page 29 Article-2639568-1E3A43EF00000578-152_634x383

Killed: The fighting was not limited to Donetsk airport. In the eastern city of Slovyansk, 60-year-old Olga Prokhorenko lay dead by the roadside (pictured) after being hit by shrapnel. She was attended to by medics

I don't expect Obama and co to care. Doubtless they will carry on telling themselves and America that the dead civilians are 'terrorists'.

It's very hard to pick through and get any kind of sense out of, Sabot, I find myself reading four or five news sites a day just to see which 'side' is reporting what, and who is trying to cover what up.

Suffice to say we, or more accurately, the US, are NOT the good guys. The last straw was when Vice President Biden's son was given a cushy job at one of the big Ukrainian energy companies, as was a close friend of Kerry. One of the reasons Americans aren't being told the truth is that CNN has a large stake in one of the big Ukrainian media companies, which is headed up by one of the many corrupt oligarchs.

I blame the US entirely for the bloodshed. The situation was already volatile, but I feel that if the assorted warring factions - that weren't doing much more than shouting and yelling at this point - had sat down with Merkel and Putin, then a non-violent solution could have been worked out.

Instead, US Ambassador Nuland handed out cookies and cakes to rioting neo-nazis, thereby giving them America's blessing. And it's been all downhill since then.

Obviously, The West and America have an agenda. I just can't quite see what it is. Unless it is to resurrect fear of The Russians. But ultimately it is none of our bloody business. America and The West simply cannot dictate to these people, most of whom also have no idea about the common people.
I do not believe that Obama and Cameron care one wit for those, as they do not care about their own.

UK Treasury opposes EU call for 'yet more money'

The UK Treasury has said the European Commission should not be asking for "yet more money" from EU member states.

The commission has published proposals to increase the 2014 contributions from members by 2.16 billion euros (£1.76bn) to cover increased costs for growth and jobs schemes, and help for Ukraine.

It wants 4.73 billion euros (£3.85bn) in total but some will come from other sources including competition fines.

The commission said the money was for schemes agreed by member states.

"The UK was among the member states who agreed that extra support be given to the Ukraine and youth employment initiatives, so it should come as no surprise when the commission calls on member states to follow through on this support," a spokesman said.

But the Treasury said "existing funds" should be used to cover costs.

It said the real cost to member states would be the higher figure of 4.73 billion euros - of which the UK share would be about £500m.

The extra money being raised from sources such as competition fines should be used to fund rebates to member states or cut future payments, it added.

Maximum spending
Under a mechanism called the "contingency margin", the European Commission can call for extra funding for unforeseen circumstances.

This must be approved by the European Council - made up of a senior minister from each member state - after which states cannot refuse to pay.

However, future budgets must decrease by the same amount to ensure overall spending between 2014 and 2020 stays within agreed limits.

Last year the EU agreed a seven-year budget which included a real-terms spending cut, with maximum spending of 908 billion euros (£738bn at current values) from 2014-20.

The Treasury said: "At a time when countries across Europe continue to take difficult decisions to deal with deficits, the European Commission should not be asking Europe's taxpayers for yet more money.

"The UK firmly believes the EU should manage any additional spending pressures through the reallocation of existing funds within the agreed budget.

"We will work with other governments to achieve a budget for this year which ensures budget discipline and reflects the economic reality in Europe, as well as the tough but fair deal done by the prime minister last year."

The European Commission, the only part of the EU that can propose laws, is made up of one commissioner chosen by the government of each member state.

Its responsibilities include ensuring EU legislation is "correctly applied" in member countries.

Let's hope Cameron stick to that - why should we pay for Obama's gangsters?

Russian version:

http://rt.com/news/162248-shelling-slavyansk-kramatorsk-ukraine/

Fourteen Ukrainian soldiers have been killed in a helicopter crash near the city of Slavyansk in the Donetsk Region, according to the acting president of Ukraine, Aleksandr Turchinov.

Anti-government protesters in Slavyansk have downed a Ukrainian forces helicopter in the south-east of Slavyansk in the Donetsk region.

Fourteen servicemen, including a major-general, Vladimir Kulchitsky, have have been killed in a helicopter crash near Slavyansk, according to the acting president of Ukraine, Aleksandr Turchinov, who spoke at a parliamentary session in Kiev.

Kulchitsky, 51, was the head of the department of Combat and Special training in Ukraine’s National Guard.

Ukraine’s army has started shelling the eastern Ukraine cities of Slavyansk and Kramatorsk, thereby resuming its massive military operation in the East of the country, local news outlets report.

“A full-scale military operation has begun in Kramatorsk and Slavyansk. BM-21 launch vehicle “Grad” are being used,” Donbas-based Ostrov agency says.

“Intensive shooting has been heard in the region, and thick black smoke seen,” he added.

UK version:

http://news.sky.com/story/1271268/ukraine-insurgents-shoot-down-helicopter

Ukraine: Insurgents Shoot Down Helicopter

A Ukrainian army general is one of 14 killed when a military aircraft is brought down by insurgents amid heavy fighting.

A Ukrainian military helicopter has been shot down by pro-Russian rebels over the eastern city of Slavyansk killing 14 troops including an army general.

Slavyansk, around 100 miles from the Russian border, has been at the centre of fighting between insurgents and government forces in recent weeks.

Authorities in the capital Kiev have condemned the unrest which it blames on Moscow.

But this is rejected by Russia which claims to have no influence over the militants, who argue they are protecting the Russian-speaking population in the east of the country.

Meanwhile, a rebel leader in Slovyansk said his fighters are holding four observers from the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe, but indicated they would be released shortly.

The OSCE said one of its four-man monitoring teams had gone missing in Donetsk on Monday.

Rebels have previously kidnapped military observers from the OSCE, sent to check on the security situation amid continuing violence after Moscow's annexation of Crimea, and the uprising by pro-Russian separatists.

It comes as the billionaire Petro Poroshenko was confirmed as Ukraine's new president following elections.

Mr Poroshenko has promised to hold talks with people in the east but also to end the pro-Russian insurgency, which has seen rebels seize government offices and clash with Ukrainian troops.

His election coincided with the most forceful action taken so far by the authorities in Kiev against the militants, with fighter jets and helicopter gunships used to retake Donetsk airport.

Some rebel leaders said up to 100 fighters may have been killed in the battle.

Russia has called for a halt to Ukraine's military action.

As even Sky is admitting Kiev is using artillery, jets and gunships against its own people, let's hope western media start telling the truth about this mess.

Slavyansk kids escape to Russia from Kiev’s shelling

War in Ukraine - Page 29 3.si

A group of some 200 children have been evacuated to Russia’s Crimea from the Ukrainian city of Slavyansk, which has become the scene of constant battles between local militia and troops loyal to Kiev.

The children, aged between 8 and 16, are being housed in various summer camps on the peninsula. The journey was not entirely trouble free. On Friday, there were reports that buses carrying the evacuated children were not allowed to cross the border by Ukrainian guards and had to turn back. But now all of them are safe in Russia.

RT spoke to some of the kids, who will spend at least a month in Crimea, about how they feel after leaving their home city that has become a battlefield.

The final irony - children being evacuated to Russia to escape from America's allies, who are bombing their home town.

Obama should hang his head in shame for what he's done, both to the wider world, and America. I don't think there is a single nation on earth that still backs Obama's America 100% - even Israel didn't support the US at the UN recently.

Still, he's always got Al Quaeda - they're bound to be grateful that he's training and arming them in Syria. Oh, and neo-nazis in Kiev, who are killing their fellow-Ukrainians on his behalf.

Yup. It's a complete and utter mess now, and unnecessarily so, IMO. I see the remnants of the Maidan rioters are still in the square burning tyres and refusing to move because they don't trust the Chocolate President (who does?).

Personally, I think Ukraine has been destroyed as a functioning state, there is no way the east will want anything to do with Kiev now, not after schools being shelled and grannies killed by Kiev's artillery.

I had to laugh at one of Obama's speeches boasting about how many people were now 'enjoying' democracy. He hasn't brought anyone democracy, he's driven previously stable, if unpleasant, states into anarchy, with rival factions gunning down rivals and anyone unlucky enough to be caught in the crossfire. Getting to vote for some tribal leader really doesn't count for much if you can't even buy a loaf of bread (assuming there is any) without risking getting blown up or shot.

Multiple fatalities feared after Kiev fighter jet attacks admin HQ in Ukraine's Lugansk

Multiple victims are being reported in the administration building of the city of Lugansk, Easter Ukraine, after a fighter jet attack. The assault was followed by heavy gun shooting, causing panic among civilians.

DETAILS TO FOLLOW

If that is even half-way accurate, then Obama's allies have just bombed the local council offices.

http://www.infowars.com/us-to-give-ukraine-18-mln-in-military-aid/

The United States has doubled its financial military aid to Ukraine, bringing it to a hefty $18 million over the past few months, according to US’s second top military commander Derek Chollet.

Chollet, who serves as Assistant Secretary of Defense for International Security Affairs at the US Department of Defense, said at a press briefing in Kiev on Monday he had met with Ukraine’ chief of the National Security and Defense Council Andry Paruby and Defense Minister Mikhailo Koval.

The US deputy defense chief confessed they had discussed Washington’s military assistance to Kiev, saying the US was to give Ukraine twice as much money as it used to. He claimed the funds would be used to buy non-lethal supplies for Ukrainian troops, including foodstuff.

Washington hopes for a long-term military cooperation with Kiev, the US military commander told journalists.

Chollet’s visit to Kiev came on the heels of an interview of US Ambassador to Ukraine Jeffrey Payette to the local ZN.UA newspaper, where the diplomat confirmed the United States had doubled its military assistance to Kiev over the past three months, although he didn’t cite any exact figures.

A source in the know earlier told RIA Novosti Ukraine’s new president Petro Poroshenko had discussed his country’s “anti-terrorist” operation in Ukraine’s southeast with Jeffrey Payette. The US diplomat reportedly urged the government in Ukraine to act decisively against the people in the region.

The US envoy also promised to “quell the international outcry” over the possible casualties of the crackdown in the restive Donetsk and Luhansk regions.

I can well believe it, Lily, he seems to be ruling by Imperial decree now, and making foul-up after foul-up. I am sure the missing soldier's family are glad he's back, but that's unravelling into a scandal now as well.

I was watching some American vets from D-Day on the news earlier, obviously very elderly, recreating the journey before the 70th anniversary ceremony - it was chalk and cheese, between those fine men and that....whatever he is.

I gather the French president is going to have to have separate dinners on Friday for Putin and Obama, as Obama currently won't go in the same room as Putin. Rolling Eyes

Thankfully for the world, Merkel is less petty, childish and scared, and will be speaking with Putin like a grown-up.
