Is it ever an omen, Bonny. Even The Saltire wants out.

Funny you should say that about The Mail. A large number of my comments aren't being published.

PS. Isn't Cameron a Scot?

Oh, he's one of those phoney ones, some toff ancestor or other. You know the kind - their forebears drove the locals off their land for sheep, and now never go near the place. Except in August, when they trundle north to kill animals, wear badly-fitting kilts and shout Ock aye the noo!

Descendants of the parcel of rogues that sold us down the river in return for bribes in 1707, while the REAL Scots rioted outside and tried to break into the old Parliament with every intention of lynching the lot of them.

This is one of the best pieces of writing I've seen for a long while:

http://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2014/sep/09/yes-vote-in-scotland-most-dangerous-thing-of-all-hope

A yes vote in Scotland would unleash the most dangerous thing of all - hope

It's a long piece, but sample quote:

Already, the myth of political apathy has been scotched by the tumultuous movement north of the border. As soon as something is worth voting for, people will queue into the night to add their names to the register. The low voter turnouts in Westminster elections reflect not an absence of interest but an absence of hope.

If Scotland becomes independent, it will be despite the efforts of almost the entire UK establishment. It will be because social media has defeated the corporate media. It will be a victory for citizens over the Westminster machine, for shoes over helicopters. It will show that a sufficiently inspiring idea can cut through bribes and blackmail, through threats and fear-mongering. That hope, marginalised at first, can spread across a nation, defying all attempts to suppress it. That you can be hated by the Daily Mail and still have a chance of winning.

What a horror story when you get down to brass tacks. And now half of The English Race know about it as well. Westminster should have kept their mouths shut and stayed out of it if this is the best they can do.
But Perfidy always shows it's face in the end.

I was just instinctively hopeful for Scotland. Now I am outraged.

A Green Arrow for you, Bonny, for finding it. And another for the person who wrote it.

Yes, it is about Hope.

I gave up voting thirty years ago because it was pointless. And I moved to France because there was no Hope for UK.
Suddenly there is Hope for Scotland.

My father who, as you are aware, was of Norwegian Viking stock, considered himself a Scot by default as his family had been in the Orkneys for at least 500 plus years, always wondered why Scotland was subservient to England when some of the greatest Brits were - and are - Scots. I think he will be dancing with joy if the YES group win. LL thumbsup thumbsup

There's hope for England and Wales too, Sabot, if people realise, Actually, we don't have to take this sh*t.

How often have self-appointed political experts announced that 'the public' isn't interested in politics, won't tear themselves away from Reality Eastenders Dancing On Ice to get involved?

Oh yes they will, if they're given half a chance, and realise that they DO matter, that they DO count, that a poor child in Manchester is worth just as much as some Tory fossil in the House of Lords.

Meetings in Scotland, in church halls, town halls, pubs, bigger venues, have been packed out for months with people who do care about the future for them and their children, and want it to be better. If you read back, I said when this thread started - earlier than I'd intended due to Cameron's antics - that what I was seeing on the ground was totally different to the then-polls, and that I didn't think the polls were reflecting reality.

Incidentally, the Mail seems perplexed by the manner in which non-Scots are welcomed into our ranks, instead of us shrieking in terror at those nasty foreign people, in the approved UKIP fashion. They should read more Burns, and then they might get it.

Sounds like there will be a party Upstairs, then, LL, my relatives who have passed on will be dancing with joy that we finally made it. It's been a long, long haul.

David Cameron has warned Scottish voters the referendum is not about giving the "effing Tories" a kick and cautioned a Yes vote would be irreversible.

Yes’ campaign shop covered in ‘Nazi’ vandalism

A ‘Yes’ campaign shop in the Capital has been vandalised with swastikas and slogans reading ‘no thanks’ and ‘Nazis’.

The shop, which was only supposed to open this evening as the Independence Referendum vote draws ever closer, was attacked overnight with Nazi symbols and anti-independence slogans spray painted in yellow across the windows and doors.

Campaigners reported the attack to police after discovering the vandalism this morning.

Neil Hay, the ‘Yes’ campaign constituency organiser for Edinburgh Southern, had been preparing the shop to open and said the attack was “sinister” and “extremely disappointing.”

He said: “We only officially open here tonight - the signage only went up yesterday afternoon so this has really been an immediate attack. Obviously it’s a mess for us that we have to deal with, but there are also landlords here who own the building and this shows complete disrespect for them as well.

Scareforce One Makes Day Trip To Aberdeen - Page 19 1402464568

“The pettiness of spray painting ‘No’ all over our windows is bad enough, but Nazi symbols brings a whole different, and quite sinister element to it. It’s extremely disappointing.”

Local resident Alan Carnegie also criticised the attack, saying: “Whichever side you are on, this kind of disgusting behaviour has no place in the kind of country we’re all hoping to live in.”

Former footballer and ‘Yes’ campaigner Michael Stewart suggested the attack could boost the ‘Yes’ campaign, and tweeted: “Newington YES shop covered in spray paint “VOTE NO” “NAZIS” stay classy guys!! Ignore it & keep positive. It’s going to win #indyref for us.”

A spokesman for Police Scotland confirmed that officers were investigating a report of damage in Newington Road.

The former Labour deputy Prime Minister John Prescott has told the BBC David Cameron's visit to Scotland is probably a "hindrance" rather than a help to the No campaign.
Lord Prescott was speaking after ill-tempered scenes between Yes and No supporters in Rutherglen while he gave a speech in which he said Scotland should stay in the Union.
He was joined on the campaign trail by the leader of the Better Together campaign, Alistair Darling, who had to be escorted to a waiting car by police in order to leave the scene.

And this apparition was dragged north by the Oh Noes!

Scareforce One Makes Day Trip To Aberdeen - Page 19 1410349826940_Image_galleryImage_Labour_politician_John_Pr

He seems to be being outflanked by the dastardly insurgents.....anyway, he didn't help much, as he went off on a rant about the Tories....

He was supposed to take the fight to the SNP in defence of the 300-year-old Union.
But Labour bruiser John Prescott today launched a bizarre attack on the Tories, accusing them of ripping families apart.
The former Deputy Prime Minister was in Rutherglen campaigning with Alistair Darling in an attempt to woo Labour voters who are tempted to back independence.
But Lord Prescott took the microphone to instead criticise David Cameron's article in today's Daily Mail urging Scots to stay in the UK.
In his article, the Prime Minister tells Scots that the rest of the UK 'desperately wants you to stay'.
But he warns there will be no second chances after next week's referendum: 'If the UK breaks apart, it breaks apart for ever.'
Clutching a copy of the Daily Mail, Lord Prescott bellowed: 'I picked up the Mail. Never been known to pick the Mail up.
'I think one of the reporters is here. What a headline! Cameron says 'Don't Rip Our Family Apart'. Bloody hell, they've ripped our families apart for decades. They are the values of the Tory party which are fundamentally different from the values of the Labour party.'

That dinosaur is Labour Lord John Prescott, Lily. He's in a class of his own when it comes to troughing at taxpayers' expense:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Prescott

In 2003, Prescott gave up a grace and favour home that he had rented from the RMT Union in Clapham; he had left the union in June 2002. Prescott paid £220 a month for the property – a fifth of its market value.[77] Though he had not declared the flat in the register of members' interests, he was subsequently exonerated by MPs who overruled Elizabeth Filkin, the Parliamentary Commissioner for Standards.[78] On 12 January 2006, Prescott apologised after it was revealed that the council tax for the government flat he occupied at Admiralty House was paid for using public money, rather than his private income. He repaid the amount, which came to £3,830.52 over nearly nine years.[79]

There have been additional controversies over sexual infidelities and harassment allegations.[80] On 26 April 2006, Prescott admitted to having had an affair with his diary secretary, Tracey Temple, between 2002 and 2004.[81] This two-year affair is said to have commenced after an office party and, in part, took place during meetings at Prescott's grace-and-favour flat in Whitehall. Conservative MP Andrew Robathan tabled questions in the House of Commons over John Prescott's reported entertainment of Temple at Dorneywood, his official residence, which raised questions over the possible misuse of public finances.[82] On 7 May 2006, The Sunday Times quoted Linda McDougall, wife of Austin Mitchell, as saying that in 1978 Prescott had pushed her "quite forcefully" against a wall[83] and put his hand up her skirt as she opened the door for him to a meeting in her own house just after her husband became an MP; Prescott had not met McDougall before.

And who can forget.....

Sadly, at a time when I could have moved there permanently, the house prices defeated me. Hence Brittany. But my first love is Scotland. In case any of you might have wondered why a disaffected English woman who lives abroad, has become so vociferous. It was all in there waiting to come out.

Now, I just feel enormous relief for the fact that ordinary people are kicking back. Even large numbers of The English have had enough. But it took Scotland to get them going.

“Lord Prescott, who was born in Wales, said he had been told that one of the Better Together No campaign buses belonged to the Scottish football team.

“Here’s a revolutionary thought for you, perhaps if England and Scotland together had one team we could at last beat the Germans,” he said.”

I actually don't know what to say, beyond, I suggest he heads south before the Tartan Army catches him. Oh, and Scotland isn't obsessed with the German football team; it isn't us that keeps going on about 1966.

Someone forgot to tell the Tories they're not supposed to reveal they're lying until AFTER the poll:

http://www.heraldscotland.com/politics/referendum-news/hague-giving-scotland-more-powers-if-it-votes-no-is-not-government-policy.1410350878

Hague: giving Scotland more powers if it votes No is not Government policy
Wednesday 10 September 2014
Giving Scotland more powers if it does not vote for independence is not Government policy, William Hague has said.

The offer by the three main party leaders of further devolved powers for Scotland if it votes No in next week's independence referendum is "akin to a statement in a general election campaign", he said.

The Commons Leader added that it was a statement of what David Cameron, Nick Clegg, and Ed Miliband intend to do after the September 18 referendum.

Mr Hague was responding to Tory Christopher Chope (Christchurch) who pointed out that it had been Government policy since 2012 not to offer so called "devo max" in the event of a No vote.

Standing in for the Prime Minister at his weekly question session, Mr Hague told the Commons: "It has been the policy of the Government for some time to be open to further devolution and I gave examples of what we have done in Wales, for instance, during the lifetime of this Government.

"The statements by the party leaders made on this in the last few days are statements by party leaders in a campaign, not a statement of Government policy today but a statement of commitment from the three main political parties, akin to statements by party leaders in a general election campaign of what they intend to do afterwards.

"It's on that basis they have made those statements."

Mr Chope had asked him: "Since 2012 my right honourable friend and I have been supporting the policy of the Government not to offer so called 'devo max' as a consolation prize in the event of a No vote in the Scottish referendum.

"If this is no longer the policy of the Government when and why did it change?

"And what opportunity has there been for this House to express its view?"
