Re: By-elections in England
That's the whole point, LL, that's what's annoying them......do not think for one moment that these troughers are on the side of the public.
Them ripping off taxpayers for hundreds of thousands in 'expenses' = good.
Some pensioner slipping a local lad a tenner to cut her grass = bad.

Lord Prescott is to take up a role as a key climate change adviser
John Prescott is to return to frontline politics ahead of the General Election after Ed Miliband appointed him a climate change adviser.
The former deputy prime minister will be working with heads of state and foreign governments to "raise their ambition", according to the Labour leader.
He wants Lord Prescott to work on an agreement in the run-up to a crucial United Nations summit in Paris at the end of the year.
Mr Miliband said he was inspired to appoint the life peer because of his experience in getting an agreement at the landmark Kyoto Protocol in 1997.
ord Prescott became known during the premiership of Tony Blair for his pugnacious style and is considered a formidable negotiator.
Video: 2001: Prescott Punches Protester
Writing in The Observer, Mr Miliband said: "His abilities and experience... must be used at this critical time for our future and there is no one better than John at bashing heads together to get a deal."
Well, he's undeniably good at assaulting members of the public.
This must be a joke, surely? Two Jags' involvement with the environment tends to have 'polluting the' in front of it....

Bonny, they need to raise a whole load more in taxes. They don't have enough for expenses and junkets and so on.
Be fair....

http://news.sky.com/story/1432582/cash-for-access-tories-suspend-rifkind-whip
The Conservatives have suspended the whip from Sir Malcom Rifkind after he was filmed allegedly offering to use his influence in exchange for cash.
Reacting to the scandal, Prime Minister David Cameron said: "These are very serious matters and we have very clear rules in this country."
He said he thought it was "right" that Sir Malcolm and Labour's Jack Straw, who is also embroiled in the allegations, refer themselves to the Parliamentary Commissioner for Standards.
Mr Cameron added: "These are serious issues, they need to be properly looked into, and I'm sure they will be."
Both Sir Malcolm and Mr Straw deny any wrongdoing.
Rifkind always was detestable. He lost his seat in Scotland to Labour in 97, and got rewarded with a cosy berth in Kensington.

Re: By-elections in England
MPs earn £67,060-a-year, but Sir Malcolm claimed this was not enough for someone of his professional background.
Challenged about why he does not do voluntary work to provide experience of the world outside politics, Sir Malcolm told BBC Two's Daily Politics: 'I have two objectives, I have to have that broader hinterland as you so nicely describe it, but I do also want to have the standard of living that my professional background would normally entitle me to have.'

Re: By-elections in England
The answer isn't really difficult is it? He could always resign and do that work instead?
ETA: If he thinks he should be paid more that is? I do think they are a pair of shits to do what they did.

Re: By-elections in England
Well, I'm watching Dispatches now, and I think we can take it that his career is over. He's all but biting the fake 'Chinese company's' hand off for ££££££.
Now, this fake company seems to have been quite an innocent creation of the programme, but he's admitted he has done similar work for 'interests' in the Middle East.....
Oh, and he claims to have lots of time on his hands, and to be self-employed.

Oh, Straw's on now, merrily digging his own grave. He's already involved with some sugar company, and has boasted about getting European regulations changed. Under the radar....
He charges £5,000 a day for speeches, etc.

Straw hasn't been quite so bad; he didn't actually demand cash. He showed utter arrogance and vanity, however, boasting about how he'd be able to help the 'Chinese company' more when he was made a Lord.

Reporters claiming to represent a Hong Kong-based communications agency called PMR contacted the MPs to say they were seeking to hire senior British politicians to join the company's advisory board.
Sir Malcolm, who chairs the parliamentary committee which oversees Britain's intelligence agencies, is said to have claimed he could arrange "useful access" to British ambassadors because of his status.

17.45 Labour MP Tom Watson told the BBC: "If the chair of the Intelligence Committee no longer has the confidence of the Prime Minister, then he shouldn't be in that position. I think the Prime Minister needs to form a view on whether he wants the Intelligence Committee chair to be working as a lobbyist for Chinese companies."
There have been so many scandals, Sabot, for me they're all starting to blur into one...
