It might also be a forerunner to Gonc Settling Out Of Court. He wouldn't need a lawyer if he does that.

I have no reason to doubt the accuracy of the information, Pedro, though I suspect it will be a day or two before we get confirmation.

It may fetch up in CdM, or there will be some kind of statement about what this means for the libel trial? Don't know, we will just have to watch and wait for news.

If he has lost Cabrita, then he is kerflkd, I think; lawyers like Marcos who work for human rights cases, etc., pro bono, are rare indeed.

His Lawyer likely told him he couldn't win and ought to settle out of Court. At which point Gonc likely sacked him.

I was thinking that too. He may ask for a delay in the court proceedings in order to get legal representation.

If this is all confirmed then maybe one AJS Bennett of Harlow could step into the void.

I can't even begin to work out how this, if it is correct - and there is no reason to disbelieve it - will affect the trial.

Likewise with the McCanns not having to testify. The libel is pretty cut and dried, mind you, but I am baffled by Portuguese law at the best of times.

If money is the issue, I can see Gonc having trouble getting representation, because civil rights lawyers like Correia, who will work pro bono in certain cases, won't touch him with a bargepole, I shouldn't think?

Anyway, there is so little time left, I doubt if a new lawyer could come in and get on top of the case?

I very much doubt that Cabrita, or anyone, would refuse to represent Amaral just because he couldn't afford to pay, and if they thought he would win. But only a fool would represent him for free if they thought he was going to lose.
