Sporting gets away with Paulo Pereira Cristóvão trap

The false bribery scheme set up by former Inspector of Judicial Police and vice chairman of Sporting, Paulo Pereira Cristóvão, should have no consequences for the sports club of Alvalade.

According to the jurist João Diogo Butters, the simulation of corruption led by the leader 'unfair', which yesterday suspended its mandate in the club, "does not constitute coercion or attempted corruption of the assistant referee, the victim of a scheme that ended up not having any interference in the match between Sporting and Marine "for the Cup of Portugal.

And I wonder who that money belongs to now? I hope the referee gets to keep it. It is in his bank account.

This case has absolutely nothing to do with the Maddie case or with Gonçalo Amaral. We all want justice for Madeleine McCann but here in Portugal the world does not revolve around the disappearance of Maddie and a lot happens without having any kind of connection to it. There is a lot of corruption in Portuguese football with Porto football club managing to be champions almost every year because they have the influence over the referees. IMO Sporting unfortunately got involved a web of deceit in order to get to the cup final this year and Cristovão was the most visible part of this.

Government hopes to speed Justice

The Secretary of State for Sport and Youth, Master Alexander, said Friday that he expects "rapid justice" as the Judicial Police investigation into a possible case of corruption at a football referee.

"Every case is best to have the speed you expect from justice. And in sport, taking into account all that is involved, the more rapid is expected to be justice," said Alexandre Mestre, on the sidelines of the signing of program contract for the mission Paralympic Londres2012.
The Secretary of State responded this way the possible case of corruption in the game quarter-final of the Cup of Portugal between Sporting and Marine, last December, which is being investigated by the Judicial Police, which was reported firsthand by DN.
On the basis of a complaint investigation is made by the Sporting Portuguese Football Federation on a deposit of two thousand euros to the account of Joseph Cardinal umpire, days before the match between Sporting and Marine.
Master Alexander declined to comment further, noting that, as a lawyer, does not like to rule on cases that are in secrecy.
"I hope that those who act in law has to act and only after the clearing of the facts, you should speak to me," said the official.

I can see Cristovao behind bars before too long, looking at the speed at which people are trying to disassociate themselves from him.

I also have the feeling that rather a lot of other matters which have been swept under the carpet are going to be dragged into the daylight, to the horror of onlookers.
