Euros: Dedicated England Fans Arrive In Kiev
Tom Parmenter, Sky News correspondent, in Kiev
England fans have been arriving in Kiev ahead of their crunch quarter-final against Italy in Euro 2012.
Unlike previous tournaments where tens of thousands of fans have followed England, there are far fewer on tour in Ukraine.
Only around 5,000 had tickets to the final group game in Donetsk, and similar numbers are expected on Sunday.
Airlines and travel firms have been busy dealing with enquiries about getting to Kiev.
But so far high ticket prices and limited hotel accommodation have put some fans off.
Graham Edmondson, who flew in to Kiev with his son Charlie, told Sky News: "We started off in Northumberland yesterday.
"It is not cheap, it is not easy, it is fairly gruelling painful process but, you know, we have just got to do it, haven't we?"
Many fans are eyeing a potential semi-final in Warsaw, Poland, which would be easier and cheaper to get to.
After so much disappointment and disillusionment by the inept performances at the World Cup in South Africa two years ago, the travelling fans now have a team that is making the travel worthwhile.
Barnsley resident Kieran Baker, 25, told Sky News: "We obviously care a lot, we spend a lot of money on this."
"It is good to see that they care and show the passion and hopefully that leads us through this one and leads us to the final - you never know!"
It's much easier supporting Scotland; you know they're going to get gubbed, so never expect to them to win.
It's all the more enjoyable when they pull off Mission Impossible and beat France home and away.
Sadly, they then get beaten by Lichtenstein, but hey ho!

Personally, as Scotland and Austria are not involved, I know who I'm going to support. LL

Re: EURO 2012 MATCH RESULTS
Well, I said at the start I would join Pedro in supporting Portugal, but I will do it very quietly so as not to jinx them.

I see CdM has its very own psychic octopus, which is going to predict the result of the Portugal-Spain match later today.
I am sure I read somewhere or other that England has a psychic llama?

Well, England appear to have put up a good fight. I didn't think they would win, but never expected it to go as far as it did. LLbb1 wrote:Oh dear. I suppose it made a change from losing to Germany on penalites.

Re: EURO 2012 MATCH RESULTS
Pauline has spoken, and it seems Portugal is going to win...
http://www.cmjornal.xl.pt/detalhe/noticias/sport/euro-2012/paulina-faz-gato-sapato-dos-espanhois
'Pauline' had no hesitation in choosing
'Pauline' is 'cat-shoes' of the Spanish
'Pauline', the female octopus Morning Post rescued from the sea off the coast of Sesimbra has no doubts: will defeat Portugal and Spain will be present in the final of Euro 2012.
Having already hit the Luso triumph before the Czech game in the quarter finals of the UEFA Euro 2012, 'Pauline', a wild female octopus collected at sea in Sesimbra, chose the aquarium with the Portuguese flag at the expense of Spanish. After the weekend 'Pauline' has already dispatched with great brilliance and determination, a Spanish shoe, and now had no doubt literally flew over from Spain to the Portuguese cockles. One option that fills us with moral duel Iberian next Wednesday and shall calculate the first country of UEFA Euro 2012 finalists.
------------
Incidentally, I think there is something a bit wrong with that translation, as it is the first time I have heard of an octopus having to be 'rescued' from the sea....the dinner plate, possibly, but not the ocean...
