It was such a tacky thing to do. The pictures themselves can't possible be offensive, bet even The French are a bit pissed off with this.
Unfortunately the Fines for this sort of Privacy Breach are far too small to make an impact on those responsible.

I can imagine ordinary French people would be pretty disgusted by this, Sabot, especially considering the death of Diana courtesy of their paperazzi.
What does this magazine hope to achieve? For the Royals to boycott France?
It makes no difference, IMO, that it is Kate they have done this to; it shouldn't be done to ANY WOMAN who is in a private situation, on holiday.
Perhaps Special Branch could take a few long-lens snaps of the editor when she is in her bathroom shaving her legs or something, put them on the internet, see if she still thinks gross invasions of privacy are acceptable?

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have launched legal action against the French magazine Closer over its publication of topless pictures of the duchess, Clarence House has said.
The celebrity gossip magazine printed pictures of the duchess taken during the couple's private holiday in France.
A royal spokesman said their publication was a "grotesque and unjustifiable invasion of privacy".
Closer's editor says the couple were "visible from the street".
"These photos are not in the least shocking. They show a young woman sunbathing topless, like the millions of women you see on beaches," said Laurence Pieau.
She described the reaction as "a little disproportionate".
The magazine's website says the pictures are of the couple "like you have never seen them before. Gone are the fixed smiles and the demure dresses. On holiday Kate forgets everything."
The duke and duchess, who were staying at the French chateau of the Queen's nephew, Lord Linley, "have been hugely saddened to learn that a French publication and a photographer have invaded their privacy in such a grotesque and totally unjustifiable manner", a spokesman for Clarence House, the Prince of Wales's office, said earlier.

The Maximum Penalty seems to be !00,000 Euros. But more normally 20,000 Euros. Peanuts.
I'm not sure what I actually think of this beyond Bloody Pathetic. It is in no way in The Public Interest. Just salacious, concerning a nice girl who has never given anyone any reason to mock her.

I don't know who she thinks she's kidding, the only people dribbling over this will be dirty old men - that she has pandered to.
They were NOT taken on a public beach; even on a beach, ordinary people have rights to protect them from scum like her. Some Peeping Tom went out of his way to take these photos on private property.

Apparently the Irish Daily Star has now published the photos of Kate. The decision even shocked the Star staff in the UK (the UK and Irish papers are not directly connected), being a "joint venture" of some sort.
It may turn out to be a silly thing to have done, though, as Richard Desmond claims he will seek to end his joint venture with them.
On a different front, an Italian rag mag from the same Berlusconi stable as Closer.fr claim to be publishing 26 pages of photos of "The Queen is Naked!"

I find the whole thing beyond tacky and nasty, Greenink.
If that photographer had walked up to a woman sitting sunbathing with her husband on a French beach and taken her photo like that without permission, he would likely be picking his teeth out of the sand.
IMO, it is grubby and voyeuristic, and of no interest whatsoever to anyone except the dirty mac brigade. And that load of sub-Mills and Boon garbage MM Pieau concocted to go with it was the final insult.
You know it's bad when it shocks the Star....it's just nasty, and I cannot see any reason for doing it except to cause hurt to a young woman who has harmed no-one, and give dirty old men a quick thrill.

Desmond may well be making good on his plans to close the Irish Star over this, as its website is still down.
As with the declining fortunes of fb, it may well be market forces that put a stop to this sort of nastiness.

I hope criminal charges are laid, Pedro - NOT because of who Kate is, but because the press, internationally, have been acting like a pack of ravening wolves for the past 10 -20 years.
We've seen them hounding all sorts of people, many of whom did not choose to be in the spotlight, but were thrown into it by some tragedy, and then been ripped apart all over again by the media.
IMO, anyone who hides in bushes to take ultra-long lens photos of young women sunbathing with their husband on private property is, well, a bit of a perv.
And I thought the French were supposed to be sophisticated? Clearly not, as they don't seem to know what comes between the neck and the waist on the female torso.
Given the manner in which his mother met her death in France, did those vultures really expect Wills to let his young wife be treated in the same manner? They're fools as well as stalkers if they did.

A total of 5,995 people (78%) signaled their disapproval after France's Closer magazine decided to show revealing pictures of Kate on its front cover.
Those who thought the magazine was right in publishing the pictures numbered 1,690 (22%).
Kate Middleton was the most popular Yahoo search term on Friday and over the weekend, with thousands taking to Yahoo! News stories to condemn the actions of the magazine and its editor Laurence Pieau.
Prince William and Kate are now set to lodge a criminal complaint in France later today in a bid to haul the photographer responsible up in front of the courts.
In France anyone found guilty of breaking the country's strict privacy laws can face a fine of £36,000 and up to a year in prison.
It will be up to French prosecutors to decide whether to take the case forward once the couple's legal team file the complaint.

I can't see The French Courts letting them get away with this. Not after what The Media Photographers did to Diana.
I have never been a Diana Fan, but there is no doubt that The Media were largely responsible for Diana's death. And what this lot have done is Stalking and Hounding, and not just a matter of Privacy. Besides, if they are allowed to get away with this then it will just go on and on until someone else gets hurt.
Sheesh, can you imagine what would have happened if The Royal Protection Officers had caught this woman?
