Quote:
The Daily Mail and Daily Mirror have been fined £10,000 each, and ordered to pay £25,000 apiece in costs, for breaching contempt of court laws with their coverage of Levi Bellfield's conviction for the abduction and murder of Milly Dowler.
The two newspapers were found guilty of contempt of court in July after two senior judges said their coverage risked serious prejudice to Bellfield's trial.
Sir John Thomas and Mr Justice Tugendhat last week ordered the Daily Mail and Daily Mirror to pay £10,000 each, plus £25,000 apiece in costs.
Ouch!

They'll need a very big hat if that's anything to go by, Lily.

Judge Tugendhat doesn't seem to take kindly to people who treat the law with contempt.

He shouldn't, should he? As a Judge he has to take the law seriously. Surely any lawyer past or present would know that Judges are supposed to do that.
Wonder why Bennett thinks he's speshul?

Bennett thinks he's got a rapier wit, and that Judge Tugendhat is going to be seriously impressed by his knowledge of The law and his command of The English Language.
Not sure what The judge will think of Bennett's accent. You might think Bennett would have done something about that. Or perhaps he can't hear his own horrible whining voice.
Can't you just see Bennett strutting around The Courtroom and addressing the gallery. Such a pity that he hasn't got A Wig.

Oh, I think we have seen him in a wig before, Sabot. Not a Barrister's one mind you. No, it is as Dame Edna, I believe? The specs so suit his face......
Maybe Tony will bring it out?

Re: Judgement on Bennett
Just look at the grasp he has on little matters like the law, accuracy, truth and hearsay:
That report suggests that Dr Kate McCann told her mother that she sometimes took Cuddle Cat to work. That makes our statement in ’10 Reasons’ fully accurate.
No, it doesn't. It makes the fantastic 'researchers' look like a bunch of muppets who couldn't Research their way out of a paper bag.
Important rule of Research: Check someone actually said what some newspaper claims they said before committing yourself to announcing The Truth. Gets you in far less trouble with libel courts.
The only place any of this happened was in the foetid imaginations of the likes of Cristovao and various Portuguese tabloids. That it was then regurgitated by UK tabloids only goes to show how lazy and sloppy they are.

Re: Judgement on Bennett
Where is the interview where Kate repeatedly said this? Was that the interview where Kate didn't refuse to answer The Questions?
Why can't I find that one?

Re: Judgement on Bennett
Don't worry, Arguido Cristovao took it upon himself to invent one, and these idiots have been parroting that rubbish ever since.
As the MM member who rattled Bennett's cage said;
(I stopped taking an interest in TB's literature after his first '10 reasons' leaflet campaign, because, as I mentioned in my earlier post, it contained several elements which were based on unsourced heresay).
Can't argue with that.

Re: Judgement on Bennett
Apologies for being a bit dense - but is this the 10 reasons leaflet that they distributed in Rothley? Which one did they send to our poor long suffering MPs? And which one did he inadvertanly sell to someone who passed it on to the court? It all gets so confusing.

Re: Judgement on Bennett
Oh my, J-P, yes, I do believe the 10 reasons is the garbage he inflicted on the McCanns' friends and neighbours:
A leaflet entitled ‘Ten reasons to suggest that Madeleine McCann was not abducted’ was distributed to 10,000 residents of the village where they live and the surrounding area

If memory serves, it was 60 reasons which he sold after promising to destroy them all and never to sell them again, even if he had 'forgotten' to destroy some.

Thanks Bonny
I make this 30 + 60 +10 = 100 reasons why TB is about to encounter the fertiliser hitting the air conditioning.

He is now harmlessly occupying himself sneering at Carter Ruck for being...successful, I think. I am sure they will be deeply wounded. Not.
