If Bennett uses Amaral's book in court; he is going to have to explain why Amaral contradicts himself as to what Mr. McCann allegedly did with the little one's body.

Amaral says when Gerry found Madeleine dead he stored her body in a cupboard.
However he says later Madeleine got on the sofa, tried to reach the window's ledge fell on her head, and died. He goes onto say Gerry came in and found the child dead and immediately took the child down to the beach and threw her in the sea.

That doesn't quite tie in with his Fridge Theory, does it?

I don't know what they are, Lily. Only that they are sick and sad, and totally incapable of processing information. And that they enjoy hurting people.

Sadly, alcoholics do have weird dreams that mirror their own problems, and then they wake up hung over and convinced that what they dreamed did actually happen, like some sort of evil psychic revelation. And then they hit the bottle again in some sort of self perpetuating delusion.
Not sure about Anthony Bennett since I don't know if he actually drinks, but he is a particularly unattractive man, and could well have been as equally unattractive as a child, and probably bullied for his ugliness. If this is true then I can only feel very, very sorry for him.

We know that Gonc has drink problems, Sabot. He even looked yellow, with strange red blotches, in one photo taken last year, was it? He lost weight and the Gonc squad said that he was not well.

Heaven knows what other theories he had.

Difficult to tell, Lily. Some alcoholics lose weight when Liver Disease takes over, and some lose weight when they stop drinking, primarily because they have been warned that they will die.
As it happens, we don't know too much about Amaral prior to the year 2,000, but certainly, after that, he was already on the road to ruin.
A divorce from his first wife. Mounting debts, accrued through dishonesty. An increasing dependency on alcohol. And further infidelities.
He then proceeded to engage in Torture to get what are likely to be two innocent people, convicted of Murder, to boost his crime solving rate.
It is a known fact that he was passed over for promotion, according to the lovely Sofa, so who knows what lengths he was prepared to go to.

Some drinkers just get silly, Lily. Only some get nasty. Usually people who were nasty in the first place. It's all in the mind. And I do believe that some people are born nasty. This is why I believe that nice people don't actually deserve credit for being nice. It is the luck of the draw. Some sort of obscure balance in the human race. And why I believe that it is genetic.
How can we know "Nice" if we never saw "Nasty" people? How can we be happy if we were never sad? This is the price we pay for being human. My dog doesn't have this problem, but then I don't want to be my dog.
The real danger for people like you and me is that we should think that we are in some way better than other people. We aren't. We are just more fortunate.
I think The Bible dealt with this at some point, but I guess that Mr. Bennett missed that one.
