The General Attorney couldn't do anything about the neglect because he had only six months to act upon it. They all suspected that a bigger crime had been committed and waited too long in the attempt to find out what and who. His Final Report was such a messy "business" that even his closest judges friends criticized him about it.

'Only six months to act on it'? Just how incompetent IS the Portuguese judicial system?

Pretty clear, I would say. The AG considered it a bad decision with catastrophic consequences - but not neglect by any stretch of the imagination.

She also knows perfectly well that had one syllable of her outlandish claims be true, then the whole court document would have been on the Morais blog before the judge who sat at the court had had time to have a post-court smoke.

And that there would have been champagne flowing on Dear Julia's daytime telly show when Gonc graced it yet again, six days ago.

I would think that each holiday apartment would have a minimum of 4 keys, one for the guest, one for management, one for emergencies ie police, firefighters, paramedics and a spare. At least that is what we have in Vienna, maybe other countries aren't so safety conscious. LL

Now, Amoral probably ignored all that boring 'evidence' stuff - I seem to recall one scene in his 'documentary' consisted of attempts to spring the door of 5a with a credit card, as seen in all the best TV police shows.

Rebelo, who gives the impression of being far more organised and intelligent, would no doubt have actually READ the statements, and realised the keys simply were not accounted for. As did the Attorney General?

At which point I would have thought Rebelo or someone else should have checked the facts about the keys, but maybe I watch too many UK cop shows and that kind of checking isn't really done, its just part of the plot that writers use to spin out stories about potential break-ins, robberies, abductions, even murders. After all why would the actual facts about the keys to an apartment where a child has possibly been abducted really matter? There couldn't possibly be a connection.

Honestly, nothing shocks me anymore about the level of competence of the Portuguese police.
