well, one thing is certain: amaral may not be in jail yet, but, due to his physical aspect, he seems to be under some sort of torture whether physical or mental, either way, he deserves it.

Gonçalo Amaral, coordinator of the Judicial Police of Portimão was made accused in the case which investigates alleged aggressions against Leonor Cipriano, which have occurred in October 2004. The woman complained of having been beaten to punch, kick and with a cardboard tube during "informal inquiries" that have elapsed without the presence of defense counsel and without knowledge of the public prosecutor investigating the child's disappearance, eight year old daughter of Leonor.

Gonçalo Amaral was at the time of Faro PJ coordinator and have been why it was made accused. Six inspectors of the Central Directorate for Combating Gangsterism and are also defendants were already a line recognition. Four were not recognized by the complainant, who identified the other two but exonerated them of assault. Leonor Cipriano was sentenced to 16 years in prison for manslaughter, co-authored with his brother, Joan. The child's body was never found.

A woman is tortured by police to confess to a crime. confesses and is sentenced (how reliable confession in these circumstances?), but complains of torture.

Perfectly said - I am glad the Portuguese press has said so.

IMO, a deliberate attempt is being made by the establishment to muddle the crime for which Leonor Cipriano was convicted (on very flimsy grounds with little or no actual evidence) with her torture in police custody.

CONVENIENTLY IGNORING THE FACT THAT SHE WAS AN INNOCENT WOMAN AT THAT POINT.

Not that it is acceptable to torture anyone, I hasten to add.

Let us not forget, her then-partner, Leandro Silva, was also tortured in custody. That he didn't make a false confession may well be the reason he is a free man.

I know I shouldn't, but I cannot help wishing that the likes of Morais and co would find themselves in trouble with dirty cops of the kind she admires so much; see if she still finds it acceptable.

Only supporters of police states think it's fine and dandy for the police to torture people in their custody; there aren't enough carnations in the world to cover the stench from this scandal.

Why isn't Morais outraged about that? Why is there never a single word from her about the habit some Portuguese police officers have of torturing people?
