They are not fit for office at this rate.
Congress were not going to vote for the strikes anyway. Let's face it, it is far better for that pair to make right fools of themselves than to destroy cities and heaven knows what else just to make them look better.

Syria 'welcomes' proposal to put chem weapons under international control
By Jamie Crawford, CNN National Security Producer
September 9, 2013 -- Updated 1646 GMT (0046 HKT)
Washington (CNN) -- Syria on Monday embraced a Russian proposal for Bashar al-Assad to put his nation's chemical weapons under international control as part of an effort to head off a possible military strike from the United States over an alleged poison gas attack.
Syrian Foreign Minister Walid Moallem told reporters in Moscow on Monday that his nation "welcomes" a statement from Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, who said his country would urge Syria to take that step if it would avert a U.S. military response.
"During our talks with Foreign Minister Lavrov this morning, he launched an initiative related to chemical weapons. I listened carefully to his statement this evening in regards to that. I declare that the Syrian Arab Republic welcomes Russia's initiative, on the basis that the Syrian leadership cares about the lives of our citizens and the security in our country. We are also confident in the wisdom of the Russian government, which is trying to prevent an American aggression against our people," Moallem said.
The comments came as Secretary of State John Kerry also seemed to endorse a similar scenario.
Syria's chemical weapons under control? Al-Assad denies responsibility for attack
Assad "could turn over every single bit of his chemical weapons to the international community in the next week," Kerry said during a news conference with British Foreign Secretary William Hague. "But he isn't about to do it and it can't be done obviously."
Kerry made the remark in London during the final leg of a trip that also included stops in Lithuania and France.
But the State Department sought to clarify Kerry's comment.
"Secretary Kerry was making a rhetorical argument about the impossibility and unlikelihood of Assad turning over chemical weapons he has denied he used," State Department spokeswoman Jen Psaki said.
=======
So, what do geniuses like Obama, Kerry and Hague do now? It looks very much like they've been left to swing in the wind while the grown-ups dealt with the problem.
Assad has freely offered to hand over his chemical weapons, as Kerry suggested. The US really cannot start a war now, they will HAVE to work with Russia, the UN, etc.

Re: SYRIA: Nerve Gas Attack
President Obama's "Plan A" for a military strike on Syria could be in danger just one day before he makes his case to the American people as Russia, the U.N. and some in Congress push for a newly emerging "Plan B."
Gaining traction is a push to compel the Assad regime to turn over its chemical weapons.
The idea caught fire unexpectedly on Monday after Secretary of State John Kerry made an off-hand comment that Syria could resolve the stand-off by relinquishing its chemical weapons within a week. Kerry claimed that Assad "isn't about to do it" -- and an aide suggested the secretary was not being serious.
But within hours, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said Moscow would push Syria to place its chemical weapons under international control.
U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon and British Prime Minister David Cameron also reportedly indicated support for the plan. And a pair of U.S. senators is already pushing an alternative resolution in Congress that would achieve similar goals

Looks like Obama's been pwned; his backers are not going to be pleased.

Re: SYRIA: Nerve Gas Attack
Lily, I find it absolutely terrifying that, if it hadn't been for Milliband's clumsy intervention, and Putin, we would now be at war.
I will never, ever forgive Obama for this; he's terrified millions of ordinary people, all over the world, because his foreign policy - if he actually has one - has become so depraved, he was actually prepared to let the Saudis fund the US military to fight in support of Al Quaeda.
He's either insane, or the rumours about where his loyalties really lie are true - or possibly both. He certainly isn't working in the interests of the US - are there no messes in the US for him to clean up?
It's not over yet, and I suspect he will still try to have his war, but if he does, he runs the risk of the US being declared a rogue state by the UN.
He deserves to be impeached for treason, as it seems nothing else can get rid of him for another three years.

RT sources: Syrian rebels plan chem attack on Israel from Assad-controlled territories

A chemical attack may be launched on Israel by Syrian rebels from government-controlled territories as a "major provocation", a number of sources have told RT.
The news comes as Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov proposed that Syria puts its chemical weapons arsenal under international control for subsequent destruction in order to prevent a possible military strike against the war-torn republic.
Moscow also urged the Syrian authorities to join the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons. The offer has already been passed over to the Syrian Foreign Minister Walid al-Muallem, who met Lavrov in Moscow for talks on Monday.
“We don’t know if Syria will accept the offer, but if imposing international control over chemical weapons stored in the country can help to avoid military strikes, we are immediately going to start working with Damascus,” Lavrov said.
The Syrian Foreign Ministry has welcomed Moscow’s initiative, “based on the Syrian’s government care about the lives of our people and security of our country,” Muallem said later on Monday.
Shortly after RT’s report, US National Security Adviser Susan Rice also spoke about the possible threat to Israel from the Syrian territory. “The use of chemical weapons also directly threatens our closest ally in the region, Israel,” she said speaking at the New America Foundation in Washington.
========
Yes, that sounds EXACTLY like the kind of thing the CIA would try to start their war.

We would be and today being the anniversary of 9/11 and all. Thank heavens we are not. The thought that we could be decimating people in other parts of the world. Also committing our own miltary to deal with it.
Obama has no foreign policy. Hell, he has no domestic one either. Everyone was hoping the best from him but have ended up with the worst.
Yeah, yeah, no boots on the ground. Who believed that as well?

Oh my, Hilary's turned up with a big wooden spoon. I'm trying to work out what she's actually saying under the blah blah....
And it sounds as if the war talk is being quietened down and words like 'diplomacy' are being used.
I wondered where Lady Macbeth had got to.

Fox is wondering who is actually in control in Washington.
My money is on Hilary being quite prepared to smile nicely at Putin and make diplomatic noises if it gets her back in the White House.

Spookily, was thinking much the same myself. And of course she'll Obama.
Do you know, Obama has made such a mess of this, I wish Clinton WAS still president, sex scandals are infinitely preferable to world wars.

I honestly thought that although his sex scandals were tacky, I could pretty well overlook it all. Just so long as he was functioning well in his job.
What I found hypocritical though was all the finger pointing by men who were known to have done worse. I remember being astounded by that.

Thanks, LL, interesting indeed. Let's hope that now, all the belligerents are going to wind their necks in and let the UN do their work. And if one person can be held responsible, then that's what the ICC is for.

Even if they prove it was the younger brother, I am afraid little can be done to charge him. These are Arabs and thr law of the tribe is paramount; only Assad can deal with him and I cannot see him handing a relative over to anyone. LL

Re: SYRIA: Nerve Gas Attack
But in an tacit message to American politicians who have heavily resisted action in the Middle East, Mr Kerry said that any strike would be 'unbelievably small'.

IMO, Kerry yet again spouted whatever he thought would make good headlines, forgetting that Putin and co are perfectly well able to hear what he's saying.
In chess terms, Kerry made what he thought was a super-clever move, but Putin saw that, by sacrificing a minor player (the chemical weapons) he could put his opponent's King into check?
