Re: SYRIA: Nerve Gas Attack
I wouldn't believe the CIA if it told me water was wet.
Funny you should say that, Bonny. Same here.
They are sidestepping the questions as too many people would be wanting answers themselves. Regarding things like airplanes and buildings and other such appalling stuff. Knowing that we will probably be in for more.......
I had written about that very country and deleted that part before I saw your next comment, Bonny.
That is what I actually had as part of this post.
As we know, the Sunni monarchies do not want to be toppled as they have been watching the Arab Spring unfold. Israel wants to be rid of Iran because of what they fear. Other Arab countries in the region who produce oil want to ensure it is shipped out and the West want to ensure it is too. Hence the Strait of Hormuz is of strategic importance and why Iran threatens it with closure.
So they need someone to do this for them. Aren't we lucky?

Re: SYRIA: Nerve Gas Attack
Call me silly, but it might be about time for the US, and the West generally, to stop deciding they 'hate' countries and communicate with them - and not through the CIA.
After all, it's bugger-all to do with America who is in power in Iran; can't say I greatly like religious regimes, but it is semi-democratic, as is Syria. Watch any chance of progress go out the window if the US starts bombing Syria for 'humanitarian' reasons.
I remember how the old Soviet Union was mocked because they didn't have plain, ordinary missiles, they had 'peace-loving missiles'. Now the US has 'humanitarian' bombs? They're going to kill more Syrian women and children to show how much they disapprove of Syrian women and children being killed?
I'd laugh if it wasn't so sick.
The internet is proving useful, for once - anyone can see that the whole business is very murky indeed, and that there are more versions of what happened than are contained in CIA propaganda videos.
If Obama gets his way and attacks Syria, I can see from the comments in US media that he may well have to start worrying about 'rebels' at home who've had enough of diktats from Washington. Maybe that's why he's so keen on spying on Americans - which is another strand to all this.

Re: SYRIA: Nerve Gas Attack
Too much corruption going on. Americans would have to be dumb to think that their interests were of the primary importance to politicians.
Have been wondering what, if anything, Snowden discovered about all of this...........
I have found that it helps to think of the ME countries as they mainly are. Dictatorships with some of them being benign.

Events like these make a farce of Western democracy, IMO, Lily. If Obama was listening to American voters, we wouldn't be having this conversation. He would have left the UN to do their work, instead of trying to bulldoze his way into war.
Cameron wasn't elected PM - he got the job because he cut a deal with the Lib Dems. There is ONE Tory MP in the whole of Scotland. One, out of 69. So, who's the dictator?

Strange that?
Remember the saying "The woman doth protest too much"? That is what all the cries to war currently sound like to me.

It would be interesting to know what was being said in US churches today, Lily. I know Americans tend to take attending Sunday service somewhat more seriously than we do, and I can't see them being any too pleased that their President is all set to use US troops to aid Jihadists, just as one of the world's oldest Christian villages is attacked by said Jihadists.

Re: SYRIA: Nerve Gas Attack
I think many people are struggling to understand how Americans would be better off by engaging in Syria, period. It will be even harder as tomorrow is the anniversary of 9/11.
As for the Christian majority, this is deeply troubling. Many want to know why we are being called upon to fight their wars for them?
There is still a question mark over what religion the Pres really is.

Brilliant. The President of Russia strongly supports Christianity, via the Russian Orthodox church.
No-one knows what religion the President of the US actually is, though many are starting to suspect Anti-Christ.

That is interesting, Lily. It must have screwed things up when the Egyptian military stepped in and threw the Muslim Brotherhood out - possibly Egypt will survive just because it is such an ancient civilization, and not just created when old empires were carved up?

Re: SYRIA: Nerve Gas Attack
America has urged Syrian President Bashar al Assad to hand over his chemical weapons, saying it was the only way to stop a military strike against his forces.
US Secretary of State John Kerry made the demand after flying into London for talks with British Foreign Secretary William Hague in the latest stage of his diplomatic tour to garner support for attacking Mr Assad's regime.
He told a news conference at the Foreign Office that the US "was not going to war" with troops on the ground, but was instead planning a "very limited, very targeted, very short-term" strike.
But, conversely, he added: "Let me be clear, the United States, President Obama, myself, others, are in full agreement that the end of the conflict in Syria requires a political solution. There is no military solution, we have no illusions about that."
More from the warmonger at:
http://news.sky.com/story/1139070/syria-told-hand-over-your-chemical-weapons
I take it that the US will be handing over its chemical, biological and nuclear weapons to the UN, to show willing?

Re: SYRIA: Nerve Gas Attack
As Omaba is either totally ignorant of world history, or involved in this effort to aid Al Quaeda for reasons so far unknown, perhaps a literate grown-up should shove this under his nose:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Operation_Himmler
The operations were mostly carried out on 31 August 1939.[4] The operation - as well as the main German offensive - was originally scheduled for 26 August; the shifting diplomatic situation resulted in delay until 31 August/1 September - but one of the German undercover units was not informed and carried out its attack on a German customs post; several Germans were killed before the incident ended.[9] The operations were carried by agents of the SS[4] and the SD.[10] The German troops, dressed in Polish uniforms, would storm various border buildings, scare the locals with inaccurate shots, carry out acts of vandalism, and retreat, leaving behind dead bodies in Polish uniforms.[10] The bodies were in fact prisoners from concentration camps; they were dressed in Polish uniforms, killed (often by a lethal injection of a poison, then shot for appearance) and left behind. They were described as "Konserve" i.e., canned goods, in planning documents (which also led to the more informal name of the operation, Operation Konserve).[1][4][11][12]
You can bet your bottom dollar Putin knows all about that, him not being an ignorant fool.

Re: SYRIA: Nerve Gas Attack
Oh dear, another wheel just fell off Obama's war-wagon:

Still, good to see Obama's finally managed to stop Iraq and Iran fighting, as they have both decided they hate him and the US even more.
I expect they understand the whole, My enemy's enemy is my friend, thing. Unlike the US government.

Re: SYRIA: Nerve Gas Attack
From-
http://news.sky.com/story/1139070/syria-warns-america-to-expect-everything
Syrian President Bashar al Assad has warned America "to expect everything" if it attacks in retaliation for his alleged use of chemical weapons that killed more than 1,400 civilians in Damascus.
Speaking in an interview to US television network CBS, Mr Assad denied he was behind the chemical atrocity on August 21 and said the US had provided "not a single shred of evidence" that his forces were involved.
When pressed by CBS correspondent Charlie Rose about what would happen if the US attacked Syria, he replied "every action".
Asked if that could include the use of more chemical weapons, he said: "That depends. If the rebels or the terrorists in this region or any other group have it, it could happen. I don't know. I'm not a fortune teller to tell you what's going to happen..."

They really are over anxious about getting the US, and ultimately other countries, involved in a trip to hell.

Re: SYRIA: Nerve Gas Attack
I'm disgusted with them, Lily. No-one wants this, not the people of the UK, the US, no-one. I am heart-sorry for the men and women in the US military, who are liable to end up being maimed and killed because their Commander in Chief wants to attack a former ally in support of Al Quaeda.
Omaba should, IMO, be very, very worried about Iran and Iraq patching up their differences. Whatever is being said in public, just watch Arab knives come out for American backs when Obama hands them an opportunity on a plate.
Also, just watch all those 'interpreters' who are in the US come out of hiding if Obama starts a war; he isn't going to be able to dismiss their actions as 'workplace violence' instead of the terrorism it is.

From:
http://edition.cnn.com/2013/09/09/world/meast/syria-civil-war/index.html?hpt=hp_t1
(CNN) -- Syrian President Bashar al-Assad took his case against a U.S. military strike to the American people Monday, arguing in a CBS television interview that such an attack would only benefit al Qaeda-linked terrorists.
"So the question they should ask themselves, what do wars give America? Nothing. No political gain. No economic gain. No good reputation. The credibility is at an all-time low. So this war is against the interests of the United States," he told CBS.
"Why? This is the war that's going to support al Qaeda and the same people that kill Americans on the 11th of September," he said.

Oh my....
http://news.sky.com/story/1139070/syria-urged-to-hand-over-chemical-weapons
Russia has urged Syrian President Bashar al Assad to hand over his chemical weapons to avert a US-led military strike on Damascus.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov called on Mr Assad to put the arms under international control so they can be destroyed to avoid a conflict that he warns would cause an "outburst of terrorism" and spark a new wave of refugees.
He said he had already conveyed the message to his Syrian counterpart, Walid al Moualem, at talks in Moscow and expected "a quick and, I hope, a positive answer
Sounds like some kind of deal is being cooked up behind the scenes? What's Obama going to do if he doesn't get his war?
What are his allies going to do to him if he doesn't give them their war so they can build their pipeline?

Re: SYRIA: Nerve Gas Attack
The US view-
Calling Kerry's bluff? Russian official floats plan to avert strike on Syria
Just hours after U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry made an off-hand comment about how Syria could avert a military strike by turning over its chemical weapons program, Russia's foreign minister is proposing that the Assad regime do just that.
Sergey Lavrov said Monday that Russia will push Syria to place its chemical weapons under international control.
"If the establishment of international control over chemical weapons in that country would allow avoiding strikes, we will immediately start working with Damascus," Lavrov said.
The plan could challenge Kerry over comments he made during an earlier press conference in London. Kerry said early Monday morning that if Bashar Assad wanted to defuse the crisis, "he could turn every single bit of his chemical weapons over to the international community" within a week.
But Kerry claimed that Assad "isn't about to do it" -- and an aide suggested the secretary was not being serious.
http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2013/09/09/russian-official-floats-plan-to-avert-military-strike-on-syria/
Hardly the time for Kerry to be playing games, if serious proposals are being put on the table.
Obama must really want his war.
