She is another ignoramus, Bonny. Obama has to be careful as he is at his lowest here now.

I don't know what Obama's thinking of, Lily. Cameron and Hague aren't surprising, but I did think Obama had more sense.

Re: SYRIA: Nerve Gas Attack
Oh, FFS!
http://news.sky.com/story/1134402/obama-syria-strike-would-be-shot-across-bow
Barack Obama has said any strike against Syria would be to "send a shot across the bow" to deter future chemical weapons attacks.
President Obama said the US had concluded that the Syrian government carried out the large-scale chemical weapons attack against civilians last week.
He said the US had examined evidence and did not believe the rebels possessed chemical weapons or the means to deliver them.
He added that the US had not yet made a decision about how to respond.
More follows...
---------
What is wrong with them? They KNOW the 'rebels' have chemical weapons. And you don't need a means to deliver them, you just take the lid off and hope the wind doesn't change.
There's nothing mysterious about them, they can be cooked up with large quantities of household cleaners, FFS.
Now I know they're lying.

Re: SYRIA: Nerve Gas Attack
Obama is a talker (so long as he has a teleprompter) and much less of a doer. Was hoping that he would be more competent than he has shown himself to be on too many occasions.
At least I don't think he has headed off to play golf or take another vacation at the moment.......
Just seen your post, Bonny. Oh for heaven's sakes.......he has no background in the military and not much political experience. What he has been doing with the military is embarrassing......etc.......etc........ and breathe.

Did Obama somehow miss this?

UN accuses Syrian rebels of chemical weapons use
Syrian rebels have made use of the deadly nerve agent sarin in their war-torn country's conflict, UN human rights investigator Carla del Ponte has said.
By Damien McElroy and agencies9:04AM BST 06 May 2013
"According to the testimonies we have gathered, the rebels have used chemical weapons, making use of sarin gas," del Ponte, a former war crimes prosecutor, said in an interview with Swiss radio late on Sunday.
"We still have to deepen our investigation, verify and confirm (the findings) through new witness testimony, but according to what we have established so far, it is at the moment opponents of the regime who are using sarin gas," she added.

i am stunned that Obama could tell a barefaced lie like that, Lily. It's known that they have chemical weapons. Did you know, there is actually such a thing as 'kitchen sarin' which terrorist groups cook up themselves? I would not be at all surprised if the 'rebels' were doing that very thing and gassed themselves - and civilians, unfortunately.
And as for needing delivery systems - FFS. That's beyond stupid. Does he think high-tech delivery systems were used in WWI, when gas was used?

Re: SYRIA: Nerve Gas Attack
Labour leader Ed Miliband has been branded a 'f****** c***' by government insiders after suddenly withdrawing support for a military airstrike against Syria, which forced David Cameron to abandon plans to push for imminent action.

Cameron's spitting his dummy because he didn't get to start an illegal war with a sovereign state that is no threat to the UK.
Cameron seems to be totally out of touch with the electorate, military, MPs - reality generally.

Re: SYRIA: Nerve Gas Attack
The debate in the Commons is just beginning. It started with the Speaker having to explain that there was a mistake in the original motion.
Think I may have to switch channels as tw@t Cameron is speaking.

He hasn't produced a single scrap of actual evidence, Lily = he's lying. The letter to all MPs from the Syrian parliament is worth reading, it makes more sense than anything Cameron has spouted.

Re: SYRIA: Nerve Gas Attack
Am looking for the letter Bonny even on Google US and so far no joy. Am sure it will turn up somewhere soon.
There are also some problems this side although our Pres has not come out and committed anyone to action yet. However, the Speaker of the House states he must put the case before Congress. They re-convene on September 9th.
This is too important to commit to just on 'thoughts' and 'feelings'?

Copies of the original on Sky, Lily - box with a camera at the right hand side.
I want to know why Cameron and Hague keep denying the 'rebels' have chemical weapons, when it's a matter of record that they do - and have used them, however crude.

Something sounds very fishy about all of this at the moment? The rushing in........ Has no one learned after the disastrous Iraq debacle?
Oh, thank you so very much for the letter. Very interesting with such valid points and in such a dignified way.

Re: SYRIA: Nerve Gas Attack
Assad may be a very nasty man, but he's not some swivel-eyed lunatic like Gaddafi, with a harem of bodyguards, etc. He has one wife, who happens to be British...and quite frankly, from what I saw of his appearance on Syrian state TV earlier, he seems to be more mentally stable than Cameron is just now.
Why Cameron would not let the UN people do their jobs, and work with Russia and others to get everyone round a table and STOP FIGHTING, I do not know.
I never thought I'd say it, but God bless Ed Milliband for tying Cameron up in so many parliamentary procedures; he may well have saved a lot of Syrian lives.

You know, I am surprised about Ed Milliband too. I join you in blessing him.

Re: SYRIA: Nerve Gas Attack
This gentleman has sane views
Another former foreign secretary, Conservative peer Lord Hurd said: "I cannot for the life of me see how dropping some bombs or firing some missiles in the general direction of Syria" will lessen the "suffering of Syrian people".
"I think it's likely to increase and expand the civil war in Syria."

Re: SYRIA: Nerve Gas Attack
http://news.sky.com/story/1134732/syria-debate-government-defeat-on-military-action
quote-
MPs have rejected the Government motion on the principle of military action in Syria by just 13 votes.
The motion, calling for a strong humanitarian response which may have included military action, was defeated by 272 votes to 285 on Thursday night.
It followed rejection for a Labour amendment to the motion which called for military action to be taken only once the UN Security Council had voted in light of a report from weapons inspectors on the ground in Syria.
Speaking after the defeat, Prime Minister David Cameron said it was clear Parliament "does not want to see British military action" in Syria.
He added: "I get that, and the Government will act accordingly.
Can't see him lasting too long after this debacle?

Re: SYRIA: Nerve Gas Attack
And Milliband was sufficiently on the ball to get Cameron to state that he would NOT use the Royal prerogative to over-rule Parliament, so that's Cameron kerflkced.
I thought it was going to be passed, frankly, as Milliband's amendment was voted on first, and he lost that.
But in fact, they voted against ANY military involvement.
UK politics are a bit more ruthless than the US, Lily, if the Tories decided he's a liability, he'll be thrown out without a second's thought, as they did with Thatcher.

Re: SYRIA: Nerve Gas Attack
According to gossip on Sky and elsewhere, Tory heavyweight Michael Gove has lost the plot and got into a massive barney somewhere in the corridors with assorted backbenchers.
Which was witnessed by an SNP MP, who gleefully recounted it.
