Now that is amazing. But all breeding birds are so secretive, for obvious reasons. I can't tell you the names of most of the birds in my garden. I simply do not know. But some of them are really beautiful. So it doesn't matter.
But Blackbirds are a bit on the big side and more difficult to confuse.

Re: Gardening Thread.
A few year ago I had swallows built a nest in my old post box. 6 chicks, 2 died and I solemnly buried them in the garden. Those chicks, now adult, could well be among the ones who play tag in my udvar. LL

Ah Ha. And I thought you didn't read this old rubbish. But I am so glad that you do.
We tell the weather by Swallows around here, and there is little more beautiful than Swallows skimming the road as they play tag. This means Rain.
And then we watch them go in September amid such noise.
I have found the time to stand and stare here.

I read everything, ma petite. I just don't respond to political items as I have no interest in most of the subject. LL.Ah Ha. And I thought you didn't read this old rubbish. But I am so glad that you do.

Gardening isn't political.
You seem to live in a very similar place to me. With much of a similar house, although yours is probably a bit more comfortable than mine. But each to his own expense.
I wouldn't want to be anywhere else.
I just didn't realise that you might be interested in my inconsequential ramblings. I am pleased that you are.

I don't garden, ma petite, I have somone who comes in and 'does' my tiny front garden twice a year and a local lad who cuts the grass and weeds in the udvar. I have never been good at growing things. LL

But that wouldn't have to stop you from noticing things. I am not all that good either.

Re: Gardening Thread.
Oh, went to this Fete du Voisin's this apre midi. Just local people. Those who live around me in Lann Georges and St. Rivalain. What a hoot. So many people that I had forgotten that I know. But not that many as old as I am. They were all so nice to me.
I don't often actually go to these things these days because I suffer from crippling shyness which is impossible to explain. So I mostly don't go.
They were all getting hilariously drunk when I bailed out. I never get drunk in public these days. But my ever so proper neighbours were all behaving in a most peculiar manner. My goodness me.
But they won't be talking about me on this occasion. I expect they haven't forgotten the last time some twenty years ago.
It was a good afternoon.

I wouldn't describe it quite like that, Lily. But it was okay. For women like me life is only ever okay.
My next door neighbours are really nice. I so like both of them. But I saw him put her down this afternoon. And I saw her tell him to bugger off. All in French. I don't think I wanted to see that. But there you go.

No chance, Bonny. They will all be paralytic by now. I will be the only one who doesn't wake up with a colossal hang over.
Beware Bretons when drinking.
And beware those who you thought were friends.

OMG, what a shock. Mummy Blackbird is sitting on the nest again. I thought it had been abandoned. There was nothing in there yesterday because I had a look, just in passing.
So off we go again.

Re: Gardening Thread.
Two eggs, Lily. I had a quick look today while Mummy was off foraging. This might suggest that she doesn't see me as a threat. But how can one ever tell?
I took down the old nest when I pruned the Wistaria last Winter, but I will have no need to remove this one. So who knows?
I did see what might have been a young Blackbird last week, looking female. But there is always loads of bird food going around here.

Re: Gardening Thread.
It isn't exactly earth shattering, is it. But it's really okay as I go about my daily life.
PS. The Wisterias are now half way to full bloom, and looking really good. I will take photos, in the hope that one of my children are able to put them up at a later date.

Re: Gardening Thread.
Boring Bloody Blackbirds Again.
The eggs totally disappeared from the nest long before they could have hatched, and something trashed the nest. My neighbour says it was probably a Magpie.
And then yesterday I noticed that there is a new nest up high in The Wisteria, exactly where it was last year. Bloody marvellous for perseverance and ongoing life.
Keep on buying sunflower seeds. They like those. And they know that I am an ongoing source of a quick snack.
I actually dug up some moss, which I now notice has been torn up, along with dead heads of Hydrangeas. But I won't be able to see what is going on anymore.
Cut the ever growing grass.
Charlotte hasn't peed in the house for three weeks, since I put her on dried dog food. I don't like dried dog food, although this is pretty expensive stuff. And whatever floats her boat.
Apart from peeing any old where, there is nothing about this poor little soul that is even remotely dislikable.
She must be ten years old by now. Long may she live if this keeps up.

She is not of my heart, Bonny. Probably too old when I rescued her. Although she will get nothing but care and attention from me.
This is some weird advantage because I won't be devastated when the day finally comes. A new experience for me, but perhaps why I have never made a habit of rescuing dogs.
But I'll tell you what, I haven't half put up with some nonsense from her. Howling the place down at 6am because she thinks it's breakfast time. Try sleeping through that. And crapping on the mat after she has just come in from the garden.
But she has taught me that I am a better dog person than I thought I was.

Re: Gardening Thread.
Oh, I have an insomniac dog too, Sabot, it's like having a baby that needs fed every two hours. Except it's the other end.
I read one explanation for the in-house poo business. It seems to be more prevalent in older dogs, because they don't like staying outside, especially in bad weather, so demand in before Nature has properly taken its course. And then it's time to get the kitchen towel anti bacterial spray out......
