Re: Malaysia Airlines plane vanishes over Vietnam
Boeing knew that BA jumbo was in trouble, all those years ago....so I just don't believe Boeing didn't know where the 777 (supposedly) was days - two weeks - ago.

Quite. Hate to say it, but it may be that the people are still not being told the truth.

Re: Malaysia Airlines plane vanishes over Vietnam
I don't think we are for one minute, Lily. I'm not even convinced the plane is at the bottom of the Southern Ocean.
And supposing it is, we'll never hear the truth about how it got there.

Well, the communications system didn't switch itself off. And nor was it done by someone who was some how instantly incapacitated.

Missing Plane: '122 Objects' Spotted In Ocean
The objects were photographed by a satellite, are between one and 23 metres long and some appeared to be bright.
Still nothing actually retrieved and looked at, though, so the objects could be anything.

Authorities are identifying objects spotted by plane in the new search area as experts say MH370 may not have flown as far south.
I think I've run out of words.

As I don't think planes come apart in neat rectangles, I'd say that's a shipping container?

Re: Malaysia Airlines plane vanishes over Vietnam
Unless there is some kind of breakthrough - and a believeable one at that - IMO, it is going to become one of the world's great mysteries, Lily.
Which doesn't help the families of the missing one bit. I just pray lifeboats with now-dead survivors are never found and that whatever happened, it was quick.

http://news.sky.com/story/1233821/missing-plane-hunt-three-more-objects-spotted
Three more objects have been spotted in the hunt for the missing Malaysia Airlines plane which vanished three weeks ago.
A Chinese aircraft scouring the ocean off Australia's west coast has seen white, red and orange objects, the official Xinhua news agency reported.
The Ilyushin IL-76 was the first plane back from the search zone, and a patrol vessel sent from the country, Haixun 01, has also been scouring an area of the Indian Ocean more than 1,110 miles west of Perth since first light.
Later:
"I've got to wait to get the reports on whether they have retrieved those objects ... Those will give us some indication," said Hishammuddin Hussein, who was speaking after meeting relatives of passengers on the plane.
Mr Hussein added the search will continue until officials can be certain of the plane's plight.
"No matter how remote, hope against hope, we'll continue to search for any possible survivors. Miracles do happen."

Taken from:
http://news.sky.com/story/1234114/missing-plane-crews-fail-to-find-mh370-debris
On Saturday, a Chinese aircraft saw three items - two of which were red and white, the same colours that feature on the outside of the plane - and a Royal Australian Air Force plane spotted multiple objects in the search area, about 1,100 miles off Australia's western coast.
However, the Australian Maritime Safety Authority said most of what had been recovered was "fishing equipment and other flotsam".
"My understanding from this morning is that there has been no discrete debris associated with the flight," Australian Navy Commodore Peter Leavy told reporters.
He said the search in the new zone was complicated as it was in a shipping lane where there was a considerable amount of rubbish floating.
The US Navy officer in charge of the Towed Pinger Locator (TPL) told journalists in Perth that the lack of information about where the plane went down has seriously hampered the search.
"Right now the search area is basically the size of the Indian Ocean, which would take an untenable amount of time to search," he said.
"If you compare this to Air France flight 447, we had much better positional information of where that aircraft went into the water."

Re: Malaysia Airlines plane vanishes over Vietnam
http://news.sky.com/story/1236868/missing-plane-malaysia-concealing-information
The Malaysian government has been deliberately concealing information about missing flight MH370, the country's main opposition leader has claimed.
In an interview with Sky News, Anwar Ibrahim cast doubt on official accounts coming from the authorities in his country and accused ministers of a "betrayal of trust" over their handling of the Malaysia Airlines plane, which vanished on March 8.
Anwar said it was "not only unacceptable but not possible, not feasible" that the plane had not been sighted by the sophisticated Marconi radar system immediately after it changed course.
He claimed the radar would have instantly detected the jet as it travelled east to west across "at least four" Malaysian provinces.
He told Sky: "There is no reason as to why they are not able to detect the flight movement.
"If you can allow this to happen, then it is a betrayal of the people's trust. You can not rely on an incompetent ministry to decide on our own security.
"They will have to explain. If they can't, they will have to tell us why this vital piece of information has been concealed from the general public and international community."
He added: "The system is opaque in the sense that they are used to a very compliant media, compliant judiciary, which will only question at the behest of the ruling establishment.
"When the information is available why not cooperate with international authorities and release it?"
Anwar, who personally knew the pilot of the Malaysia Airlines Boeing 777, has called for an international committee to take over the Malaysian-led operation, saying "the integrity of the whole nation is at stake".
He indicated it was even possible that there was "complicity by authorities on the ground" in what happened to the plane and the 239 people on board.
Anwar was sentenced to five years in jail just hours before MH370 took off after a Court of Appeals panel sided with a government challenge to his 2012 acquittal on charges of sodomoy. He is currently on bail.
Australian authorities launched the underwater phase of the search - but they admitted time is running out to detect pings from the plane's black box recorder.
Anwar's comments follow a pledge made by Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak and his Australia counterpart Tony Abbott that no effort would be spared to give the families of those on board the answers they need.
The two countries are heading multinational efforts in the Indian Ocean in the hunt for debris to solve the mystery of the jet.
Mr Razak, whose government has been harshly criticised by some victims' families for giving sometimes conflicting information about the flight and for the slow pace of the investigation, described the search as a "gargantuan task".
But he insisted there would be no let up for the sake of the victims' families.
He said: "We owe it to the grieving families to ... give them comfort and closure to this rather tragic event and the world expects us to do our level best.
"We want to find answers. We want to provide comfort to the families and we will not rest until answers are indeed found."
Mr Abbott said Australia was "throwing everything at it" to find the plane, which disappeared on its way from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing.
No trace of the jet has been found almost four weeks after it vanished.
Although Australia is coordinating the ocean search, the investigation into the tragedy ultimately remains Malaysia's responsibility.

A patrol ship searching for the missing Malaysian passenger jet has detected a pulse signal in the Indian Ocean, Chinese state media is reporting.
Xinhua news agency says the signal discovered by Chinese vessel Haixan 01 has a frequency of 37.5kHz per second - the same as that emitted by black-box devices.
The update has yet to be confirmed by authorities.
