Re: Syrian terrorists being trained by US
I'm trying to think of a PC way of saying this, and can't really....
The old Ellis Island system was not pleasant for those who passed through it, but it did serve a very important purpose. It's complete insanity, IMO, to be letting tens of thousands of people from all over South America into the US with seemingly NO checks whatsoever.
As I said earlier, it's also a gross insult to all those people who are legal migrants, and proud to be Americans, for this to be going on and their sacrifices and achievements devalued.

Re: Syrian terrorists being trained by US
Oh look, we've got an aircraft carrier again..no aircraft, though.
http://news.sky.com/story/1294717/queen-names-uks-newest-and-biggest-warship
Eventually, F-35B Lightning II Joint Strike Fighter planes will fly off the carrier, although the Government is yet to announce the order of the first tranche of planes.
Confirmation of that order is expected within weeks.
The F-35 is the world's first fifth-generation fighter jet. The 'B' variant ordered by the UK Government can land vertically and take off on a short runway like its predecessor, the Harrier jump jet.
But it means that, for its first two years of service, HMS Queen Elizabeth will sail with only helicopters onboard.
Think it may be a bit longer than that, as F-35s have just all been grounded YET AGAIN.
http://www.reuters.com/article/2014/07/02/us-lockheed-fighter-inspections-idUSKBN0F72F020140702
(Reuters) - U.S. and British military officials are working on a joint directive to require mandatory inspections of engines on all Lockheed Martin Corp F-35 fighter jets, after an Air Force F-35A caught fire at a Florida air base last week, said sources familiar with the situation.
That incident was the latest to hit the Pentagon's costliest weapons program, the $398.6 billion F-35 Joint Strike Fighter, and came as the plane was preparing for its international debut at two air shows in Britain.
The incident involved the third stage of the F135 engine built by Pratt & Whitney, a unit of United Technologies Corp, for all three models of the new warplane, the sources said. "The engine ripped through the top of the plane," one said.
Details are still being finalized, but the inspections could take about 90 minutes, according to one of the sources, who was not authorized to speak publicly.
The incident will prevent a planned F-35 "fly by" at the July 4 naming ceremony of Britain's new aircraft carrier.
It has stalled the departure of the planes that were to participate in the UK shows, but the U.S. Marine Corps said it was still planning to send four jets across the Atlantic.
"We are on track to participate in the air shows," said Marine Corps Captain Richard Ulsh.
The Royal Internationl Air Tattoo (RIAT) kicks off on July 11 followed by the Farnborough International Air Show starting on July 14.
Four Marine Corps F-35 B-model jets remain in southern Maryland waiting to leave for Britain. A fifth jet, owned by Britain, is still in Florida.
Strict UK liability laws mean British authorities need additional information before granting flight clearances. If something went wrong, the individual officer who approved the flight could be sued personally, the sources said.
Pratt & Whitney declined comment on any finding of the ongoing investigation into the fire at the Florida air base. Company spokesman Matthew Bates said the company was participating in the investigation.
One of the sources said the engine involved - and about six feet of debris found on the runway around the jet - were shipped to Pratt's West Palm Beach facility on Tuesday for a more detailed inspection.
Early indications pointed to a possible quality problem with one part of the engine, but that finding must still be further corroborated, said one of the sources.
=========
Can't we buy MiGs? They tend to NOT fall apart on the runway, catch fire, etc. And they also get delivered quickly....
Incidentally, how dumb was it to scrap Harriers, for something new and shiny that doesn't actually work?

Re: Syrian terrorists being trained by US
Britain drew up 'shock and awe' plan to train and equip 100,000 Syrian rebels, march on Damascus and overthrow Assad
General Sir David Richards developed audacious strategy two years ago
100,000 fights would have spent a year training in Jordan and Turkey
Idea was discussed in London and Washington, BBC reports

It beggars belief, Lily. Have they learned NOTHING from the mess in Iraq, that they thought they could just gaily stage a coup in Syria? Utter madness - and terrifying to think that they seriously considered it.
They must think we're not hated by enough of the world already.

Something needs to happen to clean up Washington, Lily, and it would be good to think the truth about what was going on in Benghazi will be the catalyst for change. I've never, ever seen such corruption and abuse of power before from an American administration.
And incompetence, too, even by European standards of useless politicians.
The American people are currently, IMO, in the unhappy position of being lions led by donkeys.

The persons killed pursuant to this secret memo were all Americans. One, Anwar al-Awlaki, the stated target of the memo, was not engaged in combat or armed or on a battlefield when he was killed; he did not wear the uniform of an enemy army, and he was not engaged in active violence at the time of his murder.
He was in a car in the desert in Yemen driving to meet his 16-year-old American son. He had been under continuous surveillance by 12 American and four Yemeni intelligence agents for the 48 hours preceding his murder by a CIA drone. The drone that killed him was soon followed by drones that killed his son and two other Americans.
That's a very good piece. Yet Obama simply doesn't seem to care that he's ripped up the constitution and executed American citizens. The teenage boy certainly wasn't a 'terrorist'.
And for every supposed non-American 'terrorist' his accursed drones have killed, he's created ten more.
The buck stops with him.

I really don't think he would have got away with so much in, say, the UK, Lily. He would be expected to explain himself, sometimes daily, in front of rowdy MPs, not issue edicts from on high and read off teleprompters.
His personality defects would have shown up a long time ago under proper scrutiny, IMO.

More evidence of Obama's idiocy:

Taliban torch hundreds of 'NATO-supplying' fuel trucks near Kabul

An assault by militants at a large parking lot on the outskirts of Afghan capital, Kabul, Friday night left at least 200 fuel tankers incinerated. The Taliban said the privately-owned tankers were targeted because they supply foreign troops.
“The number of tankers on fire is not yet clear, but based on preliminary reports from police around 200 tankers have been burned,” Reuters cited the Afghan Interior Ministry as saying.
AP, meanwhile, reported that 400 tankers had been burned out.
Taliban fighters fired four RPG rockets at a logistics compound in the Paghman district of the capital, said Hashmat Stanekzai, a spokesman for the Kabul police, confirming that the number of burned-out vehicles could reach 400.
Police are still investigating the case and though no casualties have yet to be reported “we fear the worst,” Stanekzai said, adding that fire had continued for a long time.
Other sources said the insurgents also planted magnetic bombs to set the tankers on fire.
“It was a magnetic bomb that caused the fuel tankers to catch fire,” said Gul Aghan Hashimi, criminal investigations director of the Kabul police, AFP reported.
The attackers were in uniforms so the Afghan security forces and drivers were confused and could not understand what was going on.
“If it was the Taliban or other people, they were dressed in uniform we couldn't understand what was happening. They were shooting towards the drivers and also they were setting tankers on fire, any of the drivers who wanted to turn on their truck, [the attackers] would target them,” fuel tanker driver Juma Gul told AP.
In a statement early Saturday to the media, Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid claimed responsibility for the attack.
“Our brave Mujahideen fighters in a special tactic have set ablaze hundreds of fuel tankers in the west of Kabul, which were supplying fuel and food for foreign forces,” he said.
Taliban fighters have been attacking convoys bringing supplies for NATO-led forces in landlocked Afghanistan for years now, but tankers have recently become their primary target.
The previous attack on fuel tankers took place June 19, when an attack of Taliban suicide bombers on a convoy of fuel trucks at the Pakistan border triggered a firefight between police guards and Islamist insurgents, resulting in 37 fuel trucks being burned.
ISAF troops, the US-led international contingent in Afghanistan, get most of their fuel supplies via the Pakistani port of Karachi.
The ISAF supply route via Pakistan has never been secure, because of the Taliban’s activities there and because the authorities in Islamabad and locals have more than once blocked the route because of the drone war the US government is waging against the Islamists in the country, and also because of friendly fire incidents involving the US Air Force.
In June, the US military finally closed its key transit center at the Manas airport near Bishkek in Kyrgyzstan. During the 12 1/2 years of the Afghan military campaign the facility remained the primary air supply hub for the ISAF’s contingent in the war zone.
In 2012, Russia allowed NATO to use not only ground, but also aerial, routes for the transit of weapons and military hardware to and from Afghanistan.
Now that the tensions between Moscow and Washington over the unfolding civil war in Ukraine are higher than ever, the US military has to consider the challenge of transporting millions of pieces of military assets out of Afghanistan when all possible exit routes – including through Russia – are blocked.
-----------
It takes a special kind of stupid to drone and bomb one semi-ally, and fall out with the other would-be ally that detests muslim terrorists and could have provided safe passage for equipment, and more importantly, people.
It's things like this that make people wonder which 'side' Obama is really on.

http://news.sky.com/story/1296197/us-restricts-electronic-devices-on-planes
US officials say they will not allow uncharged electronic devices onto US-bound airplanes at some overseas airports.
The US Transportation Security Administration (TSA) announced the new measure on Sunday.
It is part of the agency's efforts to bolster airport security amid concerns of a plot by Islamic extremists to blow up an airliner.
The TSA said that passengers at certain foreign airports - it is not clear which ones - may be asked during security screening to turn on their electronic devices, such as mobile phones, tablet or laptop computers.
If they do not have power the devices will not be allowed on planes, said the agency.

Any chance of Obama and co leaving the rest of the world alone and cleaning up their own backyard?
http://news.sky.com/story/1296459/more-than-60-shot-over-weekend-in-chicago
More Than 60 Shot Over Weekend In Chicago
An upsurge in violence leaves nine dead after a long weekend during which the city celebrated Independence Day.
More than 60 people were shot in Chicago over the July 4 holiday in a wave of ongoing gun violence.
A total of nine people were killed over the Independence Day weekend, said ABC and NBC, while five people were shot by police.
The city has been hit by a spate of shootings recently, during which 35 were shot and wounded and one killed over the previous weekend and dozens more shot dead or injured in the last few months.
One of those shot by police over the holiday weekend was a 16-year-old boy. He was killed while sheltering under a car in Gresham, south Chicago.
More at link.
ETA:
CBS's news correspondent Armen Keteyian, who has investigated gun violence in the city, says that much of the latest upsurge can be put down to gangs and drugs and an attempt by Mexico's ruthless Sinaloa cartel to take over the heroin trade.
And of course, there's no chance of any of them being in the tens - hundreds - of thousands currently crossing the US southern border?

MEXICAN FLAG-WEARING LA RAZA MILITANTS ARRIVE IN MURRIETA
Members on site to "protect the children"

An image posted by an activist who is protesting against the arrival of illegal immigrants in the flash point town of Murrieta shows the arrival of La Raza militants adorned with the Mexican flag.
According to Eric Odom, the La Raza members told him they were there to “protect the children.”
Murrieta has seen unrest since Friday as anti-illegal immigration activists clash with pro-amnesty protesters over the arrival of illegal immigrants, mainly children, from Central America.
As we reported earlier, those arrested for instigating violence against both anti-illegal immigration activists and police on July 4 were all pro-amnesty agitators who described themselves as “anarchist-communist.”
Despite the fact that the unrest was caused by pro-illegal groups, the federal riot police now arriving in the town have been sent ostensibly to deal with anti-immigration demonstrators.
The arrival of La Raza members is only likely to enflame tensions given the organization’s radical outlook, which has been attacked by critics as divisive and racist.
La Raza, which literally translates as “the race,” has been connected to the Chicano Student Movement of Aztlan (MEChA), an extremist Mexican race hate group which firmly believes in exploiting illegal immigration to bring about ‘La Reconquista’, a violent overthrow of the southern U.S. states that would be absorbed into Greater Mexico.
As Breitbart reported, La Raza activists were also out in force at a town hall meeting last week in Murrieta, chanting “Viva La Raza!” through a bullhorn.
=========
That's all it needs, a rerun of The Alamo. Only this time the US would lose because they'd have to withdraw half of the defenders for retraining due to not following the latest rules concerning diversity awareness.

Re: Syrian terrorists being trained by US
What on earth....?
http://rt.com/news/171188-russian-hacker-kidnapped-america/
A Russian MP claims the US kidnapped his son from the Maldives on bogus cyber-fraud charges and may be preparing to offer him as bait in a swap deal for Edward Snowden.
Roman Seleznyov, 30, was arrested at Male international airport as he was about to board a flight to Moscow. He was forced by US secret service agents to board a private plane to Guam and was later arrested. The Russian ministry slammed his detention as “a de-facto kidnapping.”
Moscow considers the kidnapping "a new hostile move by Washington,” and accused the US of ignoring proper procedure in dealing with foreign nationals suspected of crimes.
“The same happened to Viktor Bout and Konstantin Yaroshenko, who were forced to go to the US from third countries and convicted on dubious charges.”
No other source yet, but if there is any truth in this - has Washington taken leave of its senses? The US cannot simply go around grabbing non-Americans on foreign soil.

He seems to have taken leave of his senses, Lily. I don't yet know how accurate that report is, but if there is any truth in it, it's like the bad old days of the KGB kidnapping people from - well, anywhere in the world.
There are international laws for a reason.

Ah, but in case you forgot. Our guy doesn't seem to abide by silly little things like that.
