Syrian Air Force pilots are flying desperately outdated fighter jets on their anti-terror missions, loading them with homemade air bombs. But they are in high spirits as they feel they are winning the war against ISIS, they told RT.

The latest figures of Russia’s continuing air campaign in Syria show over 260 terrorist targets hit earlier this week.

While Russian pilots benefit either from the most advanced jets or fully refurbished and modernized warplanes, their Syrian counterparts’ planes are more basic, with some of their aircraft dating back to the 1960s, RT's Murad Gazdiev reports after visiting a Syrian Air Force base in Hama.

The Mikoyan-Gurevich MiG-21 (NATO designation name - Fishbed) fighter jet was not designed for ground airstrikes, but Syrian pilots are successfully using them as bombers, delivering deadly aerial bombardments on Islamic State positions.

And at least they can fly in the rain, unlike the much-vaunted F-35. Frankly, the RAF Memorial Flight could have made mincemeat of those ISIS cavalcades...which raises all sorts of questions about why they weren't blown to smithereens at the very start.

The pilot RT spoke to has more than 2,500 flight hours, more than 100 days in the cockpit, and these were days on combat missions, not an auto-controlled flight.

“We’re still trying to understand these jihadists and their attempts to destroy our country and why western powers spread misinformation to the world about what is happening here,” a Syrian pilot said.

A lot of us would like to know that.

Those poor guys.  It is really hard on them trying to understand what the West thinks of them.

I know, it's shocking - they are fighting for their country, FFS. And the government-held parts of Syria ARE still functioning, the shops have food, etc, Christians and other minorities can worship freely, women are being educated. I confess to having bottomless contempt for the West over this matter.

I know Assad isn't perfect, but he's ten times better than the alternative.

Britain's top military commander has warned the UK is "letting down" its allies by not taking part in airstrikes against Islamic State militants in Syria.

Speaking on Sky News, Chief of the Defence Staff, General Sir Nicholas Houghton compared it to being asked to win a football match without going into the opponents' half.

He was utterly failing to grasp that the UK HAS NO LEGAL RIGHT TO BOMB ANYTHING IN SYRIA.

Sir Nicholas' intervention comes after Defence Secretary Michael Fallon said the case for Britain's involvement in Syrian airstrikes would be strengthened if IS militants were found to be responsible for downing the Russian passenger jet in Egypt.

If it was ISIS, I am sure Russia is more than capable of exacting vengeance without any 'help' from Whitehall. Russia are in Syria LEGALLY.

In Syria, where Aid to the Church in Need has sent $9 million in aid to help Christians driven from small villages north of Damascus, an estimated 15,000 Christians have left their villages to seek refuge in Homs, Zaidal and Fairouzeh in recent days, according to Syrian Orthodox Archbishop Selwanos Boutros Alnemeh. He told the charity Christians are terrified that ISIS, in a constant see-saw battle for territory with government forces, will capture their villages and kill all non-Muslims. They are particularly fearful for the key city of Sadad, where Christians lived peacefully with Muslims for centuries.

“We are afraid that ISIS -- which God will hopefully prevent -- will conquer the town. We would lose the center of Christianity in our diocese,” Archbishop Selwanos said, adding that two years ago, jihadists held the town briefly and killed at least 45 Christians, and destroyed churches and homes.

The report names Egypt as the one nation in the Middle East that has reversed the trend under President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, following the ouster of the Muslim Brotherhood and its Islamist agenda. El-Sisi, himself a Muslim, has vowed to protect Egypt's Coptic Christians, and last Christmas attended church services with them in an unprecedented show of tolerance and solidarity.

"Such a development holds out a potential beacon of hope for Christians and others in the Middle East against a backdrop of growing Islamism," the report stated.

There wasn't a peep out of Washington when Christians were being massacred by 'moderate rebels'. Instead, Washington has been attacking Assad, who protects Christians and other minorities.

Sisi and the Egyptian army managed to throw out the Moslem Brotherhood, that had been hailed by Washington, before they managed to turn Egypt into Hell on earth for Christians and other minorites.

Isn't is strange that not a peep was made about that?  There again, perhaps not...

If Obama was a secret supporter of the Moslem Brotherhood - what would he have done differently?

Washington needs “boots on the ground” in Syria in addition to its air campaign against ISIS, which is not fruitful despite some progress. US Air Force secretary has admitted that “ground forces” is a must in order to “occupy” and “govern” parts of Syria.
In her comments, Secretary Deborah Lee James stressed the importance of the US-led air campaign, but admitted that airstrikes need to be backed by ground forces.

“Air power is extremely important. It can do a lot but it can't do everything,” James said, just two days after Secretary of Defense Ash Carter supported President Obama’s “willingness to do more” in terms of US troops on Syrian ground.

“Ultimately it cannot occupy territory and very importantly it cannot govern territory,” James told reporters at the Dubai Airshow. “This is where we need to have boots on the ground. We do need to have ground forces in this campaign.”.....etc,

'Govern' Syria? WTF? Washington can't even govern Baltimore.....
