Re: Death in the Middle East
A simple question, who exactly did kidnap and kill those teenagers? And who did kidnap and kill the Pelstinian teenager? I throw no accusations, but the timing of this all seems to me to be just a bit suspicious. If there is an Israeli agenda I hope for those who in Israel who do not support the government that I am wrong. This deliberate destroying of houses, mosques, and cafes and targeted killings of civilians reminds me of Warsaw and also of Lidice. LL

Re: Death in the Middle East
I know who I think kidnapped and killed them, LL - and it wasn't Hamas. Unless we're supposed to believe Hamas somehow managed to get armed men into an Israeli area, grab three boys and leave the Israeli area unseen?
Notice Israel hasn't produced a scrap of evidence that it was Hamas that carried out the killings? What possible motive would Hamas have for doing something so crazy? On the other hand, if someone wanted to whip up public opinion and bloodlust....
And yes, I do think the current Tel Aviv regime is capable of killing the boys for the supposed greater good. It was especially handy that one of the boys was an American.....

Some interesting older material here, LL:

Palestinian security forces have arrested a group of Palestinians for collaborating with Israel and posing as operatives of Osama bin Laden's al-Qaeda terrorist network, a senior official said yesterday.
The arrests come two days after Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon charged al-Qaeda militants were operating in Gaza and in Lebanon.
"The Palestinian Authority arrested a group of collaborators who confessed they were working for Israel, posing as al-Qaeda operatives in the Palestinian territories," said the official, on condition of anonymity.
He said the alleged collaborators sought to "discredit the Palestinian people, justify every Israeli crime and provide [Israel with] reasons to carry out a new [military] aggression in the Gaza Strip."

Re: Death in the Middle East
This is interesting.
British Foreign Secretary William Hague has said he is "extremely concerned" about the number of people being killed in Gaza.
His comments were made on Twitter after at least three men and two disabled girls were killed by Israeli airstrikes on the Palestinian territory, raising the death toll to more than 120.
Mr Hague said: "Extremely concerned about humanitarian situation and loss of life in Gaza. Speaking to President Abbas today."
The Foreign Office confirmed the tweet and said that a fuller statement would be issued later.

Re: Death in the Middle East
I am posting this up as a memorial to the children who have died in the recent fighting in Gaza, may they rest in peace. This is the memorial to the children of Lidice who were slaughtered by the Nazis in retaliation for the assassination of Rheinhard Heydrich, the brutal Nazi Protector of Bohemia-Moravia, now the Czech Republic. The youngest was 1 years old, the eldest 15. Lamplighter.

Thank you, LL.
It's especially shocking, IMO, that it is Israel which is using similar tactics. I've been reading about the activities of the settlers in the Hebron area, and was horrified - they're little better than thieves and thugs.

GAZA CITY, Gaza Strip (AP) — Israel widened its air assault against the Gaza Strip's Hamas rulers on Saturday, hitting a mosque, Hamas-affiliated charities and an Islamic home for the disabled, as Palestinians said the death toll from the five-day offensive rose to 135.

And what has Hamas done so far? Hit a garage and wrecked a few cars. It's like a peashooter against machine guns.
Not, I hasten to add, that I want ANYONE killed, but the Israeli action is out of all proportion. It's also creating more terrorists, amongst all the young Palestinians who have seen their homes blown up and their families killed and injured.

Gaza Residents Told To Leave 'For Own Safety'
9:25pm UK, Saturday 12 July 2014
The Israeli military has ordered Palestinians living in the northern Gaza Strip to evacuate "for their own safety".
Chief military spokesman Brigadier General Motti Almoz said Israel planned to hit the area with heavy force in the next 24 hours as an offensive against militants in the area is stepped up.
Officials say the area has been used to fire rockets at Tel Aviv.
The military says it will send messages to residents overnight telling them to leave the area.
"Tonight we will send messages to northern Gaza residents urging them to leave their homes for their own safety. It's unsafe to be near Hamas," an army statement said.
Gaza health officials say 15 people have been killed in the latest Israeli airstrike that attacked a target near a mosque.
It is the deadliest single attack during the five-day conflict, which has now claimed more than 140 lives.
Two rockets fired from Lebanon hit the Nahariya region in northern Israel late on Saturday, an army spokeswoman told the AFP news agency.
Israel began its offensive on Tuesday in response to weeks of rocket attacks from Hamas militants, who are understood to have fired some 600 missiles into the country.
Israel, which says it has struck more than 1,000 targets, has begun massing troops on the border with Gaza, ahead of a possible ground offensive.
The United Nations has called for a ceasefire, and the chief diplomats from Britain, France, Germany and the US are set to discuss how to achieve this on the sidelines of talks in Vienna on Sunday about Iran's nuclear programme.
On Friday, the United Nations' Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs said a majority of those killed so far - 77 percent - were civilians.
But Israel's Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, has said he will not end the campaign until he achieved his goal of stopping the rocket attacks.
"No international pressure will prevent us from striking, with all force, against the terrorist organisation which calls for our destruction," he said.
More follows...
-----------
And where, pray tell, are they supposed to 'leave' to? They're trapped in Gaza. And Israel is totally ignoring the UN - ignoring everyone, in fact.

Israeli troops launch first incursion in Gaza
Commandos clash with Hamas fighters in Gaza, during deadliest night of bombings that killed 18 members of same family.
Israeli marines clashed with Hamas gunmen in the first reported ground incursion in the Gaza Strip, after the deadliest night of violence in Israel's latest offensive in which 18 members of the same family were killed.
The Israeli army said at least four soldiers were "lightly injured" on Sunday, as they attacked a site in northern Gaza the army said was being used to launch long-range rockets.
"During the mission a gunfight broke out, started by some terrorists operating at the site, during which four Israeli soldiers were lightly wounded," said the spokesman who declined to give further details on the operation.
The Qassam Brigades, Hamas' armed-wing, confirmed the exchange of gunfire "between our fighters and soldiers of the Zionist navy which tried to penetrate the zone of Sudanyia" in northwest Gaza.
Hamas said its fighters had fired at the Israeli force offshore, preventing them from landing.
Israel later dropped leaflets on northern Gaza urging residents to leave the area, ahead of an expected wider attack on the area.
The early morning incursion followed the deadliest night of Israeli bombing since it launched its campaign on Tuesday. A total of 52 Palestinians were reported killed overnight, bringing the toll to 166 in six days of attacks.
Eighteen people, from the same extended family, were killed in the deadliest attack since the bombardment of the Palestinian enclave began on Tuesday, when Israeli forces targeted the home of Gaza police chief Tayseer al-Batsh in the Toufah area of Gaza City.
Ashraf al-Qedra, a spokesman for the Gaza health ministry, told Al Jazeera that the house, located near a mosque in Tofah, was hit after Ramadan prayers.
"It’s a new massacre being committed against our people in Gaza strip. People were trying to get out of the mosque after they finished night time 'Taraweh' prayers but suddenly they saw the house under intensive shelling.”
Batsh was among the wounded, Palestinian officials told the AFP news agency.
Israel says its bombardment is to end rocket fire by Palestinian fighters into Israeli cities. The UN on Saturday said that three quarters of those killed in Gaza were civilians.
The Israeli army said late on Saturday that rockets fired from Gaza had hit the cities of Hebron and Bethlehem. No deaths or injuries was reported.
Palestinians in the cities rioted against Israeli troops on Sunday morning.
More than 500 missiles have struck Israel during the conflict, but none have resulted in Israeli deaths. More than 1,200 Israeli attacks have been reported since Tuesday.
An Israeli air raid on Saturday hit a centre for the disabled in Gaza, killing three patients and a nurse.
The UN Security Council called for a cessation of hostilities and top diplomats from the UK, France, Germany and the US are due to meet later on Sunday to discuss the need for a ceasefire.

Re: Death in the Middle East
I saw on AlJ that the Israelis have ordered the occupants on N Gaza to vacate their homes as a new heavy offensive is to be launched there today. And where exactly do these butchers imagine the civilians are going to go, seeing that Gaza is one of the most densely occupied strips of land on the planet? How many more people are going to die? The excuse for this saturation bombing is that Hamas use the civilians as human shields and therefore they should rise up and rebel against Hamas and if they do Israel will stop the killing. LL

It's not that long ago that NATO used airstrikes against Gaddafi's tanks when they were massing outside Benghazi to slaughter the inhabitants.
I see little difference between that and the threats being made by Israel - in fact, Israel's behaviour is WORSE, they are wiping out entire families now.
