Re: US bombs Syria, kills civilians and children
And why not? After all, just look how much happier the first two have made the world. Though at least Bush1 had the sense to leave the crazed dictator that hated jihadists in place.

Iran’s Rouhani blames ‘certain intelligence agencies’ for rise of global extremism

he rise of violent extremism around the world is the fault of “certain states” and “intelligence agencies” that have helped to create it and are failing to withstand it, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said in an address to the UN General Assembly.
Speaking at the 69th session of the UN General Assembly on Thursday, Rouhani stressed that extremism is not a regional but a global issue, and called on states worldwide to unite against the extremists.
“Certain states have helped to create it, and are now failing to withstand it. Currently our peoples are paying the price," he said. "Certain intelligence agencies have put blades in the hand of the madmen, who now spare no one.”
Rouhani also said the current anti-Western sentiment in certain parts of the world was "the offspring ofyesterday's colonialism. Today's anti-Westernism is a reaction to yesterday's racism.”
The Iranian president urged “all those who have played a role in founding and supporting these terror groups” to acknowledge their mistake.
Rouhani also blamed “strategic blunders of the West in the Middle East, Central Asia and the Caucasus” for inciting violence in these regions and creating a “haven for terrorists and extremists.”
"Military aggression against Afghanistan and Iraq and improper interference in the developments in Syria are clear examples of this erroneous strategic approach in the Middle East."
Warning that “if the right approach is not undertaken in dealing with the issue at hand” the Middle East risks turning into “a turbulent and tumultuous region with repercussions for the whole world.”
"The rightsolution to this quandary comes from within the region and regionally provided solution with international support and not from the outside the region," he said.
Speaking of Iran’s nuclear program, Rouhani vowed that Tehran would continue negotiations to cement the deal with Western states.
“No one should doubt that compromise and agreement on this issue is in the best interest of everyone, especially that of the nations of the region,” he said. “According to all international observers, the Islamic Republic of Iran has carried out its commitments in good faith.”
Rouhani, who was elected in Iran’s presidential election last year despite being opposed by many in the country’s senior clergy, said that democracy cannot be exported to another country as it is a product of development, “not war and aggression.”
“Democracy is not an export product that can be commercially imported from the West to the East. In an underdeveloped society, imported democracy leads only to a weak and vulnerable government,” he told the assembly.
Rhetoric aside-
“Certain states have helped to create it, and are now failing to withstand it. Currently our peoples are paying the price," he said. "Certain intelligence agencies have put blades in the hand of the madmen, who now spare no one.”
It's pretty devastating that he openly said it in front of the UN.

He does indeed, sadly. Anyone who uses the internet for information, not shopping and FB, knows he's right. The only people that don't are the dwindling band that think newspapers and TV are telling the truth,
Meanwhile:

Lawmakers want officers to resign "in a blaze of glory" in opposition to White House's middle east policy
Or they could play that time-honoured favourite of disgruntled military, Caligula and the Praetorian Guard?

Re: US bombs Syria, kills civilians and children
Oh, dear, just seen Farage bleating that Cameron has recalled Parliament for today which is the start date of his manky party's annual conference. Says it should have been recalled yesterday. He seems to think Cameron did it on purpose. Correct me if I am wrong, but surely it could take MPs on holiday abroad more than 24 hours to get back. He is such a stupid prat; I'm no political animal but I would not want that in charge, any more than Millepede (wonderful name, who thought it up?) LL

I just saw a similar clip, LL. No wonder so many haters and hounders are UKIP fans - no-one else would be deluded enough to imagine the Middle East has been set on fire (or rather, even more on fire) to put Farage's nose at a peep.
Confession - when UKIP first went mainstream, I briefly thought they might be a good idea, to shake moribund English politics up a bit. Now I realise they're just barking mad, and unpleasant with it, which may explain why they're adored by the more bigoted of Daily Mail readers.

With UKIP's attitude to foreigners, can you imagine the 'bloodbath' if they got into power? Immigrants who have the right permits to be in the UK and the ones who have been naturalized would be targeted. The label 'Little England' would really exist. Remember 'If they're black, send them back' and 'Bash a Pak a day'. 'No dogs, no blacks'? UKIP would apply the same slogans but also Arabs or Eastern Europeans. LL

Re: US bombs Syria, kills civilians and children
Farage: A year ago Cameron proposed that we arm the rebels against Assad. The very people we could be bombing by Saturday morning. Our foreign policy has been a total and utter shambles.
I hate to say it, but he's right, it is a total shambles. And we're about to blunder into an even bigger mess. It frankly terrifies me that our leaders don't grasp that every single time civilians are killed in these air strikes, more 'terrorists' are created.
People who have seen their homes and families wiped out in an instant tend not to be open to reason.

Labour MP Diane Abbott (Hackney North and Stoke Newington) said she will not support the Government proposal.
"When it comes to this military intervention in the Middle East, you don't have to look in the crystal ball, you can read the book.
"It is because I am all too familiar with the history of our last military intervention in this region that I will not be supporting this motion in the lobbies tonight.
"It is totally disingenuous of colleagues on either side to say it is a choice between acting and not acting. It is a choice between what sort of action you take.
"It is quite clear from what Isil has done ... is they are seeking to incite us to bomb. Why doesn't that give people pause, that this is something they want? It will make them the heroic Muslim defenders against the crusaders."

Plaid Cymru's MPs will also be voting against. Hywel Williams from the party said: "Human suffering in Iraq and Syria has prompted an overwhelming desire to 'do something'. However, Plaid Cymru does not believe that UK military action of itself will provide a full and lasting solution.

David Cameron has left Downing Street. He loaded his bags into a car and was driven off at around 16.25pm.
So, where's he b*ggered off to? The vote's not been taken yet.

Ah well, the Commons has voted by a huge majority to start bombing, so doubtless the Tornadoes are revving up on the runway in Cyprus already.
They're mad, IMO. They have no plan, no idea what they want to achieve, no idea how they're going to end this, they're just going, Something must be done....

Re: US bombs Syria, kills civilians and children
Quite, Lily. I have nothing against bumping off mad head-choppers and liver-eaters, but the west is mainly responsible for this mess. Those MPs that mentioned the 'crusader' business are exactly right, that is how it's going to be seen. Of course there is going to be retaliation, but it won't be the politicians and generals that are the targets, it will be ordinary folk - as usual.
There doesn't even seem to be anything resembling a plan, beyond dropping bombs for years. And look how much this is costing:
http://news.sky.com/story/1342768/how-much-will-airstrikes-on-is-cost-taxpayer
Calculating the anticipated cost of Britain's contribution to the anti-IS coalition is imprecise at best.
According to a Ministry of Defence report to Parliament in 2010, each Tornado flight costs £35,000 per hour.
Typically, two Tornados fly each mission, lasting anywhere between four and eight hours.
So let's land somewhere in the middle: a six-hour mission costs a basic £210,000.
Then we have to consider the cost of the missiles.
The expected payload would be four Paveway bombs, £22,000 each, and two Brimstone missiles, £105,000 per unit.
So let's say that's £508,000 per aircraft in total, just a smidgen over £1m per mission.
If they carry Storm Shadows at £800,000 a pop, then the cost rises considerably.
More at link.
