In all my years as journalist & strategist, I've never seen as stark a failure of polling as in UK. Huge project ahead to unravel that.

Right....so it couldn't possibly be his fault, for dreaming up stupid stunts involving midnight trysts with Russell Brand? And Vows carved in stone?

Maybe UK voters aren't quite as dumb as Obama's voter base?

I think you have it in one, Bonny. 

Axelrod was really out of touch plain and simple.  

Also, UK voters tend not to be in awe of politicians, Lily. Given half the chance, they chase them down streets shouting at them.

Cameron, little though I like his politics, doesn't travel with an entourage - he makes an idiot of himself on public beaches without demanding the Little People be removed. He takes his family on holiday on budget airlines - which is, of course, a bit of a stunt, but still runs the risk of airsick toddlers being sick on him, or irate grannies cornering him about NHS waiting times.

And Ed's two kitchens didn't help, though I see satirists have found a use for his Stone of Vows:

It sounds like exactly the kind of stupid, empty gimmick someone like him would imagine would impress the public - so, probably.

We now have more pandas than LibDem, Labour OR Tory MPs, and more nuclear submarines than Unionist MPs.....

What a shame.......

That gives a clue as to why Ms Sturgeon is so well-liked in Scotland.

That's a good piece on why the polls didn't get it wrong, the fault lies with Axelrod and others, who believed their own hype.

An interesting new line is appearing in the MSM, Lily - that despite having 56 MPs (plus the support on most things of 3 Plaid Cymru and one Green), the SNP are going to be 'powerless' at Westminster.

They are not telling the real story - that, as the third-largest party in the UK the SNP is automatically entitled to sit on committees, see the real accounts, ask awkward questions at PM's question time. They certainly won't be following the same toothless script as have the Labour and LibDems.

They will be able to ask all sorts of unpleasant questions that have gone unanswered for years - decades.

Anyway, one of those MPs is Alex Salmond, who previously regularly caused havok at Westminster when there were only two other SNP MPs.

All in all, they've played straight into the Tories' hands. If they keep this up, the public will be begging Boris to water-cannon them.
