Re: POLLING DAY AS IT HAPPENS: TELEGRAPH TV LINK
Lord Mandy and Blair have crawled out from under their rocks:
http://news.sky.com/story/1481022/mandelson-lashes-out-at-miliband-experiment
Mandelson Lashes Out At Miliband 'Experiment'
Lord Mandelson piles into Ed Miliband as Liz Kendall becomes the first MP to announce she will be running for Labour leadership.
New Labour architect Lord Mandelson has said Ed Miliband's selection as Labour leader was the result of "trade union abuse" and his election campaign had badly damaged the party.
The former business secretary said Mr Miliband had been a "giant political experiment" that had ended up with the voters "ripping stripes off" the shoulders of the party.
He told the Andrew Marr Show the "awful shocking thing about this election is Labour could have won it".
He said: "The reason we lost it and lost it so badly is in 2010 we discarded New Labour, rather than revitalising it and re-energising it and making it relevant for the new times, the new policy challenges that we faced. That was a terrible mistake."
He added: "Literally, we were sent out and told to say things and to make an argument - if you can call it an argument - which basically said, we’re for the poor, we hate the rich, ignoring completely the vast swathe of the population who exist in between."...etc.
I don't think Mandy quite grasps that 'New Labour' is poison, being associated with him, for starters, Blair, illegal wars, Brown looting pensions and selling off UK gold cheaply, champagne socialists, etc...
This, apparently, is Ms Kendall:
I freely confess, I have never heard of her.

The Govefish is a man who argued that abolishing hanging was a bad idea, criticised the investigation into police failings during the Stephen Lawrence murder investigation, and didn’t want an enquiry into Westminster paedophiles. Now he’s charged with abolishing the Human Rights Act and replacing it with some hauf-airsed “British Bill of Rights”, which you can be sure will take rights away from you and give them to your boss and to the state. Thankfully Michael Gove won’t be responsible for justice in Scotland, he will just be responsible for injustice throughout the UK.
The Scottish Government is obliged to comply with European Human Rights law, and human rights are devolved. According to legal blogger Lallands Peat Worrier, the Human Rights Act itself isn’t enshrined in the Scotland Act, but there are numerous legal strands connecting Scottish devolution with human rights legislation. Even with the active cooperation of the Scottish Government the Tories would find it neither easy nor straightforward to disentangle them, but there will be no cooperation, Cameron’s new British rights for British mince will run into the implacable opposition of a Scottish Parliament which will not roll over and allow the Tories to run roughshod over Scots law and an SNP which now has representation on every Commons committee. A legal mess is looming.
I can see the day coming when we end up taking in asylum seekers from Tory-ruled England.

UKIP Rejects Nigel Farage's Resignation
15:44, UK, Monday 11 May 2015
UKIP has rejected Nigel Farage's resignation and he remains the party leader, the party has said.
The party chairman said they would not accept Mr Farage's post-election resignation because the party's "election campaign had been a great success".
The party's National Executive Committee said the party had "fought a positive campaign with a very good manifesto" and "despite negative attacks" had managed to secure four million votes, which is said was an "extraordinary achievement".
Mr Farage, who announced he would step down as promised after failing to win the seat of South Thanet, has now withdrawn his resignation and will continue to lead the party.
In a statement Steve Crowther, the party chairman, said: "As promised Nigel Farage tendered his official resignation as leader of UKIP to the NEC.
"This offer was unanimously rejected by the NEC members who produced overwhelmingly evidence that the UKIP membership did not want Nigel to go."

Labour Unveils Shadow Cabinet To Take On Tories
Acting Labour leader Harriet Harman announces her new shadow cabinet, filling gaps left by the party's election disaster.
Tony Blair's Lord Chancellor, Lord Falconer, is to reprise his role, it has been announced, as Labour unveils its shadow cabinet.
It means the Labour grandee will go head to head with Michael Gove as he sets about dismantling New Labour's Human Rights' Act and will be in post for the publication of the Chilcot report into the decision to go to war in Iraq.
Lord Falconer, who was Lord Chancellor from 2003-2007, will take on the role of shadow lord chancellor and shadow secretary of state for justice.......etc.
Is that really the best they can do? I wouldn't vote for any of that shower to be town dogcatcher. No wonder Milliband's gone to Ibiza.

Why not just call him the governor of the colony and be done with? If there's one office that isn't needed or wanted, it's that one.

As the supposed opposition, Labour, are clearly going to be as much use as a chocolate teapot, I suspect the SNP are to a certain extent step into that role. They can now chair committees, get sight of the real accounts, go poking around for 'lost' files, etc.
Also, they aren't part of the Establishment Old Boys Club, so will have no compunction about raising merry Hell.

Incredible! STV news does a long, detailed report on the arrival of the SNP in London.
BBC Scotland mentions it in passing, and then goes into a long report on SLab, Jim Murphy, and whether SLab still supports Jim Murphy.
I suspect the BBC's days are numbered, as there's one thing that the Tories, SNP and UKIP have in common.
An absolute detestation of the BBC and their bien pensant media luvvies.

Be glad you're a safe distance away, LL, Labour are putting on an appalling display - demonstrating perfectly why they lost so badly last week. It doesn't seem to have dawned on them that Milliband having midnight chats with flaming Russell Brand, and Edhenge, made voters decided he simply wasn't fit to be PM - he threw the election away, IMO.
And Jim Murphy STILL hasn't resigned as head of SLab. Which is good.
Meanwhile, Cameron's held his first Cabinet of toadies, to dream up new ways of making the poor, the sick and disabled even more miserable.
I am fully expecting Cameron to bring back workhouses by the end of his term - he'll call them 'retraining hostels' or something.
Incidentally, it's looking as if England, at least, is stuck with the Tories for the foreseeable future. Cameron wants to redraw constituency boundaries and reduce the number of MPs by about 50.
You will doubtless be shocked and amazed to learn that almost all of the seats he wants rid of are Labour seats.

Re: POLLING DAY AS IT HAPPENS: TELEGRAPH TV LINK
http://wingsoverscotland.com/the-lockout/
Both the new Scottish Secretary, David Mundell, and his new shadow, Labour’s Ian Murray, were interviewed on today’s Good Morning Scotland. Mundell ruled out full fiscal autonomy, and indeed any suggestion that the SNP landslide had represented an expression by Scottish voters of a desire for more than the feeble Smith Commission proposals.
Murray, meanwhile, stated his intent as being to oppose both the Tories and the SNP, refusing several times when asked to say that he’d work constructively with the MPs holding 95% of Scottish seats. (Indeed, despite reiterating his own opposition to the renewal of Trident, he wouldn’t say whether he’d actually vote against it.)
So Scotland knows where it stands. Two MPs from parties with just 3% of Scottish seats between them both plan to spend their time blocking the aims party with 95% of seats. Indeed, that party will barely even be allowed to be heard in the single Parliamentary session devoted to Scottish matters each month.
More at link.
I can see bad, bad trouble ahead, between the Tories riding roughshod over civil rights and basic decency in the South, and treating the Scottish MPs and public with utter contempt.
The days are long gone when the peasants will sit and take it, and the weekend's London riots may be just a foretaste of what is heading his way.

Re: POLLING DAY AS IT HAPPENS: TELEGRAPH TV LINK
A husband and wife who were caught on CCTV stealing out-of-date food from Tesco bins to survive have avoided sentencing after a sympathetic judge said 'how are they expected to live?'
Paul Barker, 39, and Kerry Barker, 29, of Sunderland, were spotted on CCTV sifting through out-of-date groceries at the back of a store on January 5 after their benefits were stopped and they could not afford to feed themselves or their children.
They were caught by police taking worthless discarded food from a supermarket bin in a bid to feed their hungry family and were charged with theft - and the matter made it to court.
Mr Barker says both he and his wife were hardworking taxpayers but he was forced to quit his job after breaking his back while working as a scaffolder.
His wife gave up her job at Durham County Council five years ago due to depression and as a result the pair no longer have a source of income.
They have been forced to steal food from bins after Mrs Barker's benefits were stopped after she missed a meeting earlier in the year.
Because of this the couple's children, a four-year-old boy and two-year-old daughter, have now been forced to live with their grandparents

That couple had a pretty secure life till his accident, and then they got trapped in the system.
Now, I don't think that handing out more money is actually the answer to all this - we need a bigger cake, and a wider tax base. And that is not going to happen as long as Cameron and co are imposing 'austerity' on everyone, while billions slosh around computer screens in the City and Deutsche Bank.
The UK is liable to go the way of Greece, where small businesses have been destroyed by 'austerity'. 'Austerity' turns genuine enterprise and capitalism on its head, because it is rewarding the incompetents that caused the mess.
Also, this business of zero interest rates is ANTI genuine enterprise, as it penalizes people for saving and re-investing money.

Scotland's small business community 'has gone from strength to strength' in past six years
MAY 12TH, 2015 - 12:02 AM JANICE BURNS NO COMMENTS
THE head of Scotland’s most successful social enterprise start-up agency has insisted that the country’s small business community has blossomed and gone from strength to strength over the past six years.
Social enterprise development agency Firstport has provided support and resources to 700 entrepreneurs totalling around £3.7 million helping to create two new social enterprise companies every week in Scotland.
Karen McGregor, Firstport chief executive, said: “We’ve seen significant growth of social enterprise in recent years.
“However, it’s still a young, vibrant sector with huge potential to help create a fairer economy by growing the economy and providing employment opportunities while also tackling social issues and empowering communities. The impact of reduced public service spending makes this contribution even more vital.
“Firstport’s mission is to stimulate social enterprise start-ups and provide the support and resources they need to make their ideas a reality.
“In the last six years we have made almost 700 awards totalling around £3.7 million and helped to create two new social enterprises every week in Scotland.”
She said social enterprise has broad cross party support.
The Social Entrepreneurs Fund, which Firstport delivers on behalf of the Scottish Government, was mentioned in SNP manifesto.
McGregor added: “New UK-wide initiatives such as Social Investment Tax Relief (SITR) are stimulating private investors to consider businesses that make both a social as well as a financial return and we hope this will continue to be encouraged by the new UK Government.
“Scotland has one of the strongest business angel communities in the world and a strong track record in assisting start-up and early stage businesses achieve their ambitions. We’ve been greatly encouraged by the number of these angels who are willing to support social enterprises.
“Firstport has recently helped the social entrepreneurs on our LaunchMe accelerator programme attract around £180,000 from private investors to help them become financially self sufficient, scale up and increase their social impact.
“It’s been great to see these businesses grow in ambition, self belief and confidence. It also demonstrates how a programme like LaunchMe can help start-ups become investable and secure private sector investment. We need to encourage more of this ambition and confidence to ensure Scotland continues to thrive socially and economically.”
One of LaunchMe’s success stories is Bruce Gunn, who runs a socially driven courier company Delivered Next Day Personally.
The multi-award-winning East Kilbride-based company, which employs disabled people as lifestyle couriers and community postmen/women, has just opened a second office to meet increased demand across Scotland.
Founder Gunn’s life changed overnight when an allergic reaction to a mosquito bite led to long-term illness and left him housebound for three years.
He went from being a successful IT consultant to joining the lost generation of disabled people on the scrapheap.
A parcel delivery led to a “lightbulb moment” and with support from Firstport and the Scottish Government’s Social Entrepreneurs Fund, Bruce set up his new delivery firm.
See the difference even a small amount of money, comparatively, invested in the right place can make?
